Frontlines: Fuel of War Catch-All (formerly beta thread)

I'm picking it up for sure on the PC on Wednesday, I have had a lot of fun with the MP demo on the 360, I just don't like fast shooters like this played with a gamepad. Detonating the flying drone on somebody is a blast.

So far all of the reviews I have read have been for the 360, and all of them have complained about the single player campaign, which is a non-factor for me. I wonder if they had to throw that on to appeal to console gamers who don't go online.

I tried the demo on the X360 and was not at all impressed. Between CoD4, TF2 and the occasional BF2142, that itch is well scratched.

So, FFOW ships today. Is it worth buying? 2142 is getting old.

I think I'm the only one not riding the fence waiting for reviews or the PC demo, I will be picking it up. From what I've played, I would say if you like BF2 you will like this. But I still like BF2142, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Trowan be sure to get up an impressions page for us former 2142ers after trying out your copy.

Will do.

I'm also waiting for reviews and or demo.

edit: is there still a PC CoD4 group?

We were playing for awhile on Fridays and then it just died out. If someone wants to pick a different day, I would still play.

*edit* I have yet to see a PC review, but here is a good one for the Xbox that I thought was pretty accurate based on what I have played. The multiplayer review is about half-way down the page. It doesn't mention it in the review, but there are no unlocks for the game except for your secondary weapons. These unlock just like the field unlocks in BF2142. The gameplay itself is like the Assault Mode in the Northern Strike expansion for 2142, except that each side is trying to run the other off of the map.

I think I'm back on the fence after reading the first impression thread for the PC on the Kaos forum.

Its seems the PC version is off to a lousy start - one I doubt it will be able to recover from. No punkbuster, lousy game browser -- this just screams sloppy console port. I've got a feeling the PC version is going to be in bargain bins inside of three months.

You are probably right, which is a shame because I thought the game play itself was really fun.

Well dammit, I'm disappointed.

Fixed. And don't pretend you won't join him, you traitorous bird.

I just picked this up for the 360. Like I said somewhere here, it reminds me of Joint Operations, and that's ok by me.

Well, with no PB the 360 version has become a no-brainer.

I bought it for the 360 today. I personally loved the demo.

I'm downloading the 360 demo tonight. This game was really not on my radar until the last couple of days, and from the preview type videos out there, it looks pretty good.

Anyone had a chance to play with the retail 360 version yet?

Yeah, so far the single player is pretty close to how the demo shows it to be. Only with more ai talking of course and less hectic.

It's sort of like Unreal in that the SP campaign is really just training for the online component. That's not to say it isn't fun.

Oh, and using the attack drones to kill armor? Awesome.

Edit:

I was just checking around, and it looks like the reviews are averaging about a 7.5 or 8.0, depending on how Battlefield jaded the reviewer is. Personally, I like the approach that Kaos has taken here: it's a big sandbox, here are a bunch of weapons, and we have an easy control scheme-now go have some fun with 50 of your virtual friends.

Sorry I could join your team the other day Taco! Now that I'm probably going to pick this up for the 360, we need to hook up again. Does the game support clans?

Sonuvabitch.

I was really looking forward to the next step in our Thursday nights pc rampages. I think me and Jarhead have pretty much used up 2142 and turned it into an almost soulless husk of a game with as many hours that we have collectively put into it.

I'm pretty sure EA did that.

Played the demo on 360. Kinda fun but I think there wasn't enough people playing because I found it really long between enemies. As well I found it to be a very slow moving shooter game.

Tried both demos - PC just seem bad; however, it was early on - 360 I enjoyed, at least MP part. Not sure if it is worth the $60 for just to play that since I have read the SP is crap. What way are GWJ peeps drifting if they buy? Looks 360 mostly? Just do not want to end up like CoD4 and a double-dip if I decide to buy (CoD4 was worth every penny)!

So far we have (pending reviews):

trowan
RichyRambo
Funkenpants
Staats

The no PB was a deal breaker for me. I picked it up for the 360.

Since this doesn't look like the next Thursday night PC game, I'm gonna pass.

I was playing the demo last night, was good fun, it's no ground breaking game but it's not bad either, going to play it some more tonight with my mate will decide if it's worth buying then. If anyone in the GMT type time zone wants to give the demo a shot feel free to add me, just started to get back into online gaming so looking for some ppl to play with hate playing with random's...especially on Xbox :p

Maybe they'll fix it by the time the patch comes out next month.

By then it'll be too late. This game just shot itself in the gut and its death is assured.

When are publishers gonna learn -- sloppy PC launches doom the longevity of the game. Look at Quake Wars, UT3, and Hellgate for example - arguably high end brands that suffered from troubled launches and their longevity has suffered for it (less than six months from their launch and how many GWJers are playing them now? Quake Wars is in the bargain bin and in Hellgate's case even Roper has been lamenting its poor showing).

Then look at something like TeamFortress, smooth launch and the game is still going strong.

Battlefield is just lucky that it is such a strong brand and survives despite itself and each iteration brings decent improvement to the series (how I wish they would update BF2 using the BF2142 interface!)

Bah! I was looking forward to Frontlines too, but hey they made their 1st quarter so in the end that is all that matters these days - blame your 401K...
