NBA 08 (PS3)
I'm probably going to write a short review of this Sony take on basketball, but some additional opinions would be welcome. The thing is, I don't know much anything about basketball, and I haven't played other basketball games. So I'm lacking a reference point.
Based on one evening with the game, it feels surprisingly fun. Not realistic, but arcadey fun. I'm playing on the "rookie" setting and being beaten by the CPU, but only just. My initial feeling is that this is a competent offering, but a little shallow. On the plus side, even incompetent players like myself find it easy to get into, as you are not swamped with a ton of controls, unlike most sports series I've played.
I'm going to try the multiplayer, too, but haven't had a chance yet. I have a feeling it's not going to be as fun NHL or quite as interesting as Pro Evo.
Once again, I fail to understand why sports games never feature a 101 on the basic rules/conventions/tutorial of the sport. I'm spending quite a bit of effort to "get" the game. I guess they suppose everyone who would buy one would be a fan of the said sport, but it irritates nevertheless.
