Mythos Update

No invites still. I don't think they have any plans to go back to an invite system.

I've been hearing this since January!

I'm Mixol and Aerol on the Test Center. around levels 8 and 3, respectively.

Whoa, I'm not sure if I'm doing anything different, but the difficulty seems fairly jacked up on the Test Server. I'm using the same bloodletter build I did on the beta server (both elite) and now I'm getting my ass handed to me on the first couple quests. Might need to go back to the drawing board :-/

I'd just like to say damn you all! for having beta access and not me.

I'm with phil. I hate you all. I need this to hold me over until Diablo 3 comes out.

I think the worst thing is hearing people exclaim that the game looks more polished than a lot of finished games do already anyway. Or maybe it's worse that we've been hearing that for about half a year now.

While the game is certainly far and away more polished, it's been through several iterations. When I started playing it shoot, two years ago? It was far more like Diablo I than the full experience we're getting now. Yea, they've been working on it for a while, but one thing that bears keeping in mind is that originally, Mythos was nothing more than a testbed for tech destined to make HGL great.

No you don't. The game is fun but still needs a lot of work. In its current state it is a hack-n-slash with a stable engine, well thought out game mechanics, a good random 'dungeon' generator and three classes with a solid set of skill trees. There is no real story, no cool quests, the loot system needs work and the monsters need more variety. In a nutshell, it is fun to play for a 1/2 hour here and there but you will get bored and it will not hold your attention. There is just not enough meat on the bones yet.

If you want a good hack-n-slash to hold your attention for a while, you are much better off with Titan Quest, which I believe can be had for a good price on Steam.

Bingo. I'm with Copingsaw on this, but not as forgiving.

It's a thin thin excuse for a MMO and I've never understood the enthusiasm for it. It's about as deep as a puddle and after 1hr you've seen everything you're going to see. It's one big repetitious pattern with a different random dungeon swapped for another, different set of mobs, more random loot explosions. It's like a Flash game and HGL had a baby. At least unlike HGL, with Mythos, you get what you pay for.

I think I've been through the whole game on all three difficulties something like six or seven times. I've played all the character builds I liked already. Expansion too.

Diablo 2 is only fun for me anymore in multiplayer and the GWJ hive seems insistant on using the closed battle.net servers, which just doesn't work for me. So no go there either. I need a different game of this style that actually plays well. I've not found any others.

Have you tried Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity or Sacred?

I've been meaning to hunt these down and give them a shot. Remember positive reviews but that was years ago. Worth tracking them down? Ever released digitcally?

I played through Divine Divinity and enjoyed it. I started Beyond Divinity and got distracted somehow, maybe 2nd kid? Sacred I played the demo and liked it but didn't pick it up for some reason. Looks like I've got some nice laptop friendly games to dig into. I think they're physical media only, but they're easy to find. Amazon has them through 3rd party sellers for $15-$20 shipped.

I play Mythos occasionally as a break from WoW after seeing it pimped here.

I really like the game as a good Diablo2 fix and have been having fun with it.

My characters so far:

Selitha, Pyromancer l16
Aridelle, Gadgeteer l6

I dunno Thin, I think you've probably exhausted your options. I know this may draw some derision, but I found Dungeon Siege 2 to be a mindless but fun hack-n-slash. If you haven't tried that, it may be worth picking up. I haven't played Sacred but have heard good things about it.

Sacred is pretty good. I haven't played it all the way through (I can't remember what new game caused me to stop playing Sacred when I bought it years ago) but it was a good way to quench the Diablo thirst for a while.

I believe it's showing up on GameTap this month.

Sacred Gold is now available on Steam for $9.99 as of today.

Excellent timing! I almost plunked down for it from Amazon yesterday.

Thanks! Maybe I'll check this out.

I remember playing the demo back when Sacred came out, didn't really hook me, but 10 bucks sounds good, maybe I'll give it a try again

Divine Divinity is very good imho, more RPG content than just a Hack'n'Slash, it has a really nice atmosphere and you could manipulate nearly everything you see in the world (bit like Ultima) - worth a try if you see it somewhere cheap

From Certis' post about Flagship studios in G&P:

Flagships's Community Manager, Taylor Balbi, has revealed, through sources, that all Ping0 and Flagship Studios staff have been made redundant. Employees were notified at a company meeting and subsequently informed that the offices will be officially closed on Saturday. Balbi went on to reveal that three of the studio's top brass dug into their own pockets to provide 30 days of pay to all employees.

Word of the studio closure reached Korean distributor HanbitSoft, leading to the release of a statement regarding intellectual property control and the subsequent clarification by their American lawyers that included the following sentence: "It is unfortunate that Flagship turned down additional investments HanbitSoft offered to make that would have allowed it to keep its doors open."

As also referenced in the legal release, HanbitSoft hopes to independently continue development of Mythos, to which it owns the rights thanks to a loan agreement enacted with Flagship. Comerica now owns the Hellgate: London rights through a similar loan agreement, and will likely continue Asian development with HanbitSoft. As for English-language releases of the two games, it is possible that the Asian companies would continue development, though in the case of Hellgate: London it is unlikely (Mythos has a far better business model and is attracting extremely positive press). Alternatively, the rights may be sold to Electronic Arts or other interested parties.

In summary, Flagship's well is dry, all intellectual property has been lost, all staff fired, and the studio closed. It truly is the end of the line.

So.. Mythos may or may not see the light of day anytime soon. I'd like to think someone decent will pick up the rights and get it finished, but who knows.

Maybe I'll bite on Sacred afterall.

I'm sure it will finally enter open beta very soon.

Arise!

This could be an interesting situation, as it seems a natural competitor to the Torchlight MMO, so you've got the old game started by the same development team going up against their new offspring.

With Torchlight having launched, and those guys working on the Torchlight MMO, I have a really hard time caring about Mythos. It'll be interesting for sure, but it's really and sadly 'Meh' in my book.

Same here. I feel like Torchlight took what Mythos was doing and improved on it. Unless they've made some real changes I think Mythos is going to feel like a step back. And to be fair, I absolutely loved Mythos when the beta was going. I still have fond memories of my meleeing fire mage.

It's hard to say without looking at an up to date version of Mythos, and what Runic have planned for TL MMO, but I seem to remember Mythos being a more rounded experience, with more of the MMO staples such as more questing and item crafting/trading.

Arise! Again!

Mythos is out in Europe now btw. Although I think you can still play the euro version in the US as well

Never played the beta so i don't know if this is anything like the original version, but so far it feels like a competent (if rather generic) diablo clone (only played it for a half hour or so this morning though). But, it's free and nobody has tried to sell me anything essential to win the game yet so I'll certainly give it a proper go over the weekend I think.

Very early highlight - Love the randomly generated mini dungeons, great for little 5-10min bursts. Also the crafting looks rather meaty. Translation is horrible though, half the quests don't make any sense when reading them.
