360 Fall Update Catch All: The Stalker Update

If anyone gets video artwork functional, let me know. I've exhausted every way I can think of at the moment to make it work.

Has anyone tried playing new video formats off of an inserted media (USB thumbdrives or CDs with the files burned to them), as opposed to streaming?

OK, Xbox Live has some problem with the name "Legion".

Previously, I have tried to change my gamertag to "Legion (blank)", where (blank) is something, anything, even a string of random characters. Xbox Live refused to let me change my name to anything else with Legion in it.

Now, with the new profile stuff, it won't even let me list *Legion*. Legion, or anything with Legion in it as my profile name. It says it's a banned word.

I think there was mention of something being frotzed with names and Live accounts.

From XBox 360 Fanboy:

We've just been informed via Gamertag Radio and Xbox.com's TriXie that the Fall Update is releasing with a minor bug related to the new Live ID switching feature. Specifically, when you download the Fall Update and change the Live ID you have associated with your gamertag, a bunch of Xbox.com issues arise. Problems including all your Xbox.com forum posts being deleted, your community user level will go bye-bye, your icons will be erased and your gamertag will be replaced with with an "anonymous" name. The Xbox 360 dashboard team is trying their darnedest to get a fix in place and should have a solution available in the next few days. Until then, DO NOT change your Live ID that is associated with your gamertag until a fix is announced. You've been warned.

I saw that, but that's not what I'm talking about. My problem with trying to change my gamertag was from months ago.

Right now, the problem is that I can't even put "Legion" in the text of my profile.

I created this gamertag back in the original Xbox days. It seems that somewhere along the way, they added Legion to their list of "reserved" words, and my Gamertag continues to exist only through legacy.

I don't see why they'd even implement the friends of friends feature if you can't look at a friend of a friend of a friend.

It looks like this may be dead wrong.

So far, every non-friend of mine that I've browsed to on the GWJ COD4 list has NOT had the option to look at THEIR friends.

Yep, looks like a ball-drop on that feature. There go the dreams of a universal GWJ root account.

Same thing with my normal user name. I don't think mine is banned from being in my profile though.

Now that I think about it, what was the root account going to do for a user, anyway? Any game that you're interested in playing multiplayer regularly for you would have on your own friends list, and you shouldn't have any need to skim through a list of of the different games on the xbox. It'd be more practical to just have a thread with a list of all the games linked directly to their respective profiles on Xbox.com.

Because adding the root account only takes up one slot of my 100 instead of 1 for every game in which I'm interested.

That's only if we weren't doing game-specific lists. And technically you would be adding a sub-node rather than the root node to your list, but indeed it would have been only one friend slot.

But without friend-of-friend-of-friend traversal, it's moot now.

But how would you be on the lists of games you were interested in anyway without having those lists on your friends list?

This is hard to talk about.

Also, I don't think that it is moot without friends of friends traversal.

Anyone figure out a way to get the video setting to stick?

So, I was going to go ahead and create the GWJ Halo Clan, but I got an error on my 360 that signing up for Live accounts is currently closed.

XBL Japan has Magatama and Puyo Pop Fever on the originals but they are region locked.

Yeah, Live's account management been in a state of complete suck for the last couple of days.

Because it wouldn't have involved game lists. The idea was that every GWJ player would be on one list, and all those lists linked to a root node. The appeal behind that idea vs. the game-by-game lists was that it would only require 1 slot on everyone's friends list, and they would be able to traverse the entire list of GWJers through that one link.

Without F-O-F-O-F-etc traversal, this idea is moot. The only option left is individual game lists, which are accessible only to the people on those lists. There's no greater GWJ-encompassing tree possible. That's the point. The individual game lists are still useful, they just require people do some friend list trimming to make room for each list they want to be on.

Anyone going to make a GWJ Rock Band list?

Not a bad idea really. I'll try getting one set up.

I'm not able to get this to work either. I was really hoping this update would be able to finally read meta data. I have everything encoded with h264 running off a USB harddrive.

I got it to work for both .avi files and .mp4 files on a flash drive. However, I use Connect360 to stream from my roomies mac and the thumbnails didn't show up at all. In fact none of the newly supported file types show up. I think Connect360 filters out filetypes the pre-update 360 couldn't handle. I'm sure they'll have an update released shortly though.

All right, Rock band clan listing is up. "GWJ Rock Band" is the name (sans quotes.) I'd link to it's live account page, but it's not showing up yet.

Regarding the new video compatibility: Works very well. Really loving it. I use TVersity to serve up my video, and they already had managed to release an update to go along with the xbox live patch.

...:(

Well, I got the artwork to show up. Not sure really what I did but it now looks like it's reading the meta data. For those using a Mac, after I encode my movies I use Metax to update the meta tag. The artwork was read by the xbox, so I guess the first few I tried were tagged incorrectly.

Has anyone tried an original xbox game yet? I really want to see if the load times improve for Fable due to it running off the harddrive.

Our mottos are now visible from the friends list. I'm thinking about using it as a status message for games I'd like to play (Carc, Catan, etc.), since my own motto doesn't make much sense. Thoughts?

Okay I have created the GWJ Halo Clan. If anyone wants to be a part of it go ahead and send it a friend request. We can use this list for organizing Zombie Skate or Hardcore night, or any random Halo game.

Yup, same experience here too. Definitely going to have to wait for a Connect360 update.

Actually, there is one other problem too: Connect360 flattens out your directory structure when it hosts the files out to the 360, so unless you make a specific directory to temporarily move the videos you want to watch into, you are going to have to scroll through very long lists of videos to find what you want to watch.

Hopefully they will add some kind of support organization in the next update too.

That's a good idea. However, for those whose XBL tags don't match their forum names, there is as a better use: put your forum name in your motto. Last night I saw that booty (Stilgar Black on XBL) has already done this, and it is much appreciated.

I liked Staats' idea, but I think Zero's is really good too. That would make it so much easier to know who people are, and not keep a mental checklist of who people are on Live and on the forum.

Charming. They've further ghetto-ized Silver accounts by implementing this in the update (quoted from EvilAvatar):

Just a reminder that if you have a Silver account, you won't have access to free content on the the Marketplace (like demos) when they are first posted. That content will be available to Gold level exclusively for one week, after which Silver members will have access to the free content.

I still feel no incentive to upgrade to a Gold account, and now I'll probably play fewer demos and game trailers that might lead to purchases. But hey, MS will save up to 1/1000th of a cent in file transfer costs, so that's... something.

Well, they have to make those of us who bought Gold accounts feel like there is a reason for us to pay. So, if we get the stuff a week early, then its a "value".
