What do you think?

Personally, it does nothing for me. It looks really great, but I'm sort of bored of Mario.

But it looks so great there's moments I can't tell if it's pre-rendered or what.

I'm really excited for it. I don't think I could ever get tired of Mario. And it does look good, but I'm torn - it has that back-lit rim-lighting on EVERYTHING and I can't tell if it's overdone or if it's a nice effect that makes things pop. Either way, this is probably what a game looks like when dudes program it specifically for the Wii, as opposed to *ahem* porting something over.

I havent bought into the whole planet and star hopping gameply shown so far. I guess its outer space obstacle courses. I am probably hoping for the game that the beginning of that trailer represented... Mario 64 or DS style galaxy.

Maybe the Galaxy parts just help get you from planet to planet (level to level).... <-- wishful thinking

I've always enjoyed games like this and its been a while since I played a Mario game. I definitely getting it.

Everything I've seen so far has excited me. I only wonder how the controls work.

Seeing as how almost no 3D (or 2D) platformers are made anymore, I'd settle for OK, but all the press on this thus far is universally positive.

Sidenote: Liongames (link to the left) has a preorder for $42. With 5 day shipping, but dodging tax, I saved $10. So, you know, that's good.

I'll throw it on my xmas list. I'm just not in the mood for a platformer right now.

I was at Best Buy a short while ago to pick up Call of Duty 4 and they had Mario Galaxy in stock. I thought it came out next week?

Guess not. I'll have it coming as a rental soon. I'm sure my fiance and i will enjoy playing this one together.

Mario looks really great this time out. Platformers are my favourite games so I'm really excited for this one. There is also Wiiconnect24 access, with achievements like in Metroid.

Going to have to exchange more friend codes! YAY!!!

I got to play a bit of it in the gamestore the other night, and it's moved up my planned re-purchase of a Wii dramatically. The 3D aspects were really well used, and even spastic old me had little trouble with the controls once I figured out what the heck I was doing.

In all the previews, it looks a lot like it was inspired by some of the better levels in Psychonauts. Which is pretty cool.

This looks like lots of fun, and well designed platformers like this have gone over well here in Valhalla. We'll probably be picking it up, but I'm not sure it'll be right at launch.

I was already planning on picking this up, but it's good to hear from all the reviews that the controls are flawless. Same week as Crysis and Kane & Lynch. Makes me seriously consider using up a vacation day or two next week.

@Mex Gamespot mentioned in their review that the game is fabulous and could have used any character besides Mario, but him being there definitely does not hurt it. I am not going to tell you what to do, but I plan on renting it to see if it is fun. I really don't worry to much about what the plot is or characters are in a game so long as it is fun. What why am I jumping on crap? Oh got to get to the princess gotcha. Why am I shooting these aliens? Oh they want to take over the world, cool lets shoot us some aliens.

I'm not the biggest platformer fan anymore (I essentially skipped, well, nearly all of them except Mario Sunshine and Psychonauts in the last generation of game consoles), but this is exactly the game I need right now.

I dunno, I think it's actually sort of brilliant. From the small amount I've read, listened and watched about the game, it seems like the setting gave them the excuse they needed to get creative and do bizzare, off the wall stuff with the environments and gameplay that wouldn't have fit with a more conventional theme, while still making things feel like a cohesive whole.

I pre-ordered the game and will be getting it no matter what. But does anybody else look at the game videos we are currently shown and go, "So he runs around a tiny planet. That looks nauseating and frustrating."

Is the game just jumping from one tiny little planet to the next as the camera wildly chases you around like they show you in the videos? I'm hoping you occasionally get really big planets where you can do more things then just giggle to your self because you ran around the whole planet in 2 seconds.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here because I will be getting the game. It's just those damn game videos they currently show us where I really think that doesn't look fun if I have to do it for more then a few levels.

I've been trying to avoid watching too many videos, but from what I have seen (and read/heard) there is huge variety in the size of the worlds, as there is in the environments on each world and the kind of things you will be doing on them.

Just to echo what CoryB23 said earlier, the game appears to be on shelves already in various parts of the country. For those in the Twin Cities area, I just picked it up at the Roseville Best Buy over lunch. Can't wait to get home and play...

Elliottx, listening to what some of the other sites' podcasts have said about the game, there seems to be quite a bit of variety to the levels. Many are much larger, while others are shorter, bite-sized levels. The comparisons I've heard say it draws from SMB3 where there were lots of really short levels, but then also from SM64 where some levels are larger and could be traversed multiple times to achieve multiple goals.

There was a tiny bit in the gametrailers review that made me a little excited.

Apparently Mario can get an ice ability that freezes water on touch, so he can walk across a body of water as it freezes under him. That seemed kinda neat, but then he started backflipping off of two waterfalls facing each other, bouncing off temporary ice platforms. That is badass.

Gaddammit I wasn't going to have to get a Wii for a long while still. Why can't the games just continue to be crap for another year?

Because the King is back.

I watched the GameTrailers review and I'll be honest:

I want this game. NOW.

Yeah this is the first Wii title I'm actually really pumped for. Luckily, it is also the title my roommate has broken down for and is gonna pick up a Wii.

Ok...been playing for the last 2 hours...it's REALLY good. Spoilers below in case anyone doesn't want to read them.

In 2 hours, I've managed to collect only 4 stars, the first of which is an introduction level, and 3 of which are in the first galaxy. I can see this game requiring a large time commitment to fully play through, so I wouldn't be worried about the "small planet" issue. I haven't yet gotten to any level that gives me any of the fun suits, so no comments there.

The game looks gorgeous. I'm not going to preface that comment with "for a Wii game" because it really does look amazing. It's Mario through and through, so if you don't like that art style, you won't like it in this game, but for fans, it's amazing. And for fans, there are lots of fan-service moments right off the bat. I had a big grin on my face the entire time I was playing. There's clearly a lot of creativity in this game.

Lastly, the game controls extremely well. Everything is super responsive and I've never felt out of control of Mario. The only complaint I have is that my hands are a little tired because I've played the Wii so little since Zelda that I'm not used to holding the controllers. Extended playtimes will definitely require an adjustment period. The game also just asks that you adjust your thinking about platformers because of the different gravity on each planet. I'm always worried I'm going to fall of the edge as in previous Mario games, but then, I don't. I can even feel myself doing the "head-lean" as Mario runs around upside down and askew.

The game is just plain fun. It's not like playing Halo, which is also fun, but requires a certain amount of intensity. In Mario, I'm just exploring and not thinking about what's right around the corner, even though I'm eagerly anticipating the next scene. I'm not sure that made any sense, but whatever.

I'm happy to answer questions.

Oh yeah, maybe we should edit the title of the thread and make this the "Catch-All" for the game.

Nobody has leaked it early locally yet ... bunch of jerks.

No kidding. I am hoping that I can't find a Wii until after the holidays because if I see one I will probably pick it up for this game. It's getting a little difficult to stick to my $200 Wii magic price point. If I can wait until January then this holiday wallet assault will be a little less damaging.

Since giving up my WoW addiction, I am starting to jones for a Wii pretty bad. This does not make it easier... My wife was really encouraging me to stop WoW for a while, but now that I compete for TV time, she is rethinking the situation, HA!

I was so excited for this, but after this comment, I think I'm just going to wait. I hear Wii Fit will be more like Halo, so I think I'm going to pick that up when it comes out.

Taken out of context but still made me laugh. And you heard it hear first, Wii Fit comes with a motion sensitive gravity hammer to keep those deltoids in shape!

Holding a copy in my grubby mitts right now. I just need an excuse to leave work early.

I think you just answered your own dilemma.
