COH: NC Soft acquires City of Heroes IP

City of Heroes IP acquired by NC Soft

Haven't played it much myself in the last year or 2, but it actually sounds like they are really committed to improving CoH.....or the subscriber base is really dwindling....

I guess this was always hinted at once Cryptic had announced being contracted to work on the Marvel Universe MMO...

If this leads to letting me play with the character generator for free, I'll be happy. I always found the game itself to be pretty run of the mill but dayum character creation was fun.

As Lobster said, I also loved the character creation. I remember sitting in class during college coming up with super heros/villians who would work with the power choices.
For example:
The Tenured Professor - He had an army of zombies(or grad students if you will)
Mr. Senator - With sonic vocal abilities to destroy his opponents by talking.
Taco Bell Customer - A very large hero with the ability to create flame from somewhere...

I just want them to take the game and make it so the max level is 20 and you get all your powers by 20. Then I would come right back to the game and take 3-4 characters to 20 so I could experience all the content.

CoH/CoV has probably been my favorite MMO. It's the only one I've gone back to when the flavor of the week gets boring. I know it's repetitious and all but I really like the feel of the game.

I'm hoping that NC Soft offers a "station pass" type of deal. I'd like to be able to play Tabula Rasa, CoH, and Dungeon Runners for one price.

I haven't played an MMO yet that doesn't fit that description.

Meh, I liked CoH til my 2 favorite heroes (a stone/axe tank and an archery/fire blaster) maxed out their equipment. Not alot of endgame potential. I'd go back if they raised the level cap.

I like CoH/CoV and I stopped playing for a while because it got too repetitive like all MMO's. However, I have recently started the game back up and I am enjoying myself enough to hold my interest. The way I see it is there are a few things this game does that breaks the boring MMO formula. There are really no items you get enhancements to your powers but there is no looting done, no item whoring, no loot steals...it puts more of an emphasis on actually playing the game for the enjoyment of the minor story arcs that frequently come up. The character customization is unparalled mainly because of the no item thing, because there are no items to physically alter your appearance you get to make what your character looks like from lvl 1. You do unlock extra costume slots so you can have more options down the road and at I think lvl 30 you get to unlock a cool effect like firey eyes etc... Hands down still one of my favorites, I still like WoW but I got burned out on it quite badly and the fact that raiding is ungodly time consuming.
