Homeworld 3

Foreshadowing?

A look at the US Patent Office reveals that Homeworld IP was transferred from Sierra to THQ a while ago. There was a change of attorneys as shown on the documents list found here . Click on "TEAS Revoke Appointed Attorney" to look the document.

A thread can be found here regarding this news.

Relic does have an unannounced title in development along with the new DoW expansion and their RPG/MMORPG thing. Unless Homeworld is that MMO.

THQ legal have their stamp on the second page, and the whole thing is signed by Jim Kennedy, vice president of THQ legal.

Compare also with CoH's Trademark files:

Found the whole thing yesterday, but wasn't sure what to make of it. Glad someone shares my estimation of the meaning of this.

EDIT:
Oh, Cataclysm also seems to be with THQ.

I'd love for the Homeworld series to keep going...one of those rare franchises that takes a really different approach and is just plain fun.

I will have to violently beat my hopes down into submission thanks to this tiny sliver of a chance for the continuation of my favourite game series ever. I remember reading somewhere (a long time ago) that the chances of a third installment developed by Relic were literally zero due to bad blood between them and Sierra after the split.

Did you read anything I posted? Sierra no longer owns the copyright of Homeworld, THQ does now. Owners of Relic.

Hah, no no, I understood all that, I was just saying that I was not expecting this development at all, sorry.

Homeworld=awesomeness
Homeworld Cataclysm =good second effort
Homeworld 2=licks the taint of Homeworld 1

I hope that Relic puts some thought into level design for Homeworld 3.

This was a series I was very sorry to have never played. Tell me, where to you all get your used PC games these days?

Gametap has them, if that's an option for you.

One truly unique series that if it got another chance I'd definitely be happy. Homeworld 2 was still great, even if it wasn't Homeworld 1.

Fantastic news to hear. Homeworld is one of my favorite games of all times and any new addition to the IP will be welcomed by me.

i love homeworld the single player is the best, multiplayer on the otherhand takes like 4 hours! At least with Cataclysm, you had the uber gun so you can kill their Mothership if you where lucky

Best part of Homeworld = Original game's manual.

No, seriously. Did anyone read ALL of that huge honking thing? Holy cow.

Back story for the entire Hiigarian race. That includes, but is not limited to...

- The stories of the clans, including stories of important events for each important clan.
- The stories of the discovery of the hyperspace core.
- The stories of the development of the mothership to take them home.
- The politics of getting an entire planet to unite under a single, far-fetched goal.
- The origin of EVERY SINGLE ship type in the game, including weird anecdotes about each one where appropriate.

This was a manual you could take into the bathroom for a sitter and never read a single thing about how to play the game. Thus, I deeply loved it. I wonder where that went... got lost in the move, sadly. Have to see if I can download it or something.

Either way, the Homeworld series as a whole is great for me.
Original = Great game, though those damn "hide in the space dust" and the "gate spewing reinforcements constantly" missions always kicked my ass. I never came out of either of those missions well.
Cataclysm = Interesting side story to an established universe. Very cool stuff here really. Some people bemoan bits and pieces of it, but I really enjoyed it... Wasn't as challenging as Homeworld, but... a step or two in the easier direction did make it a lot more fun for me in the "not trying to figure out a workable strat for 3 days" category.
Homeworld 2 = Good, but the plot got stupid really fast. Three hyperspace cores? Really? REALLY? How the hell is everyone else flying around and why did ANYONE let the guys from the original take the one away?

I used the Homeworld manual for my summer reading list on year.

More Homeworld is a good thing, no matter how it arrives.

Oh man I forgot all about that crazy-thick silver book, that was so awesome!

Anyways, more good news for those of you keeping tabs on this whole thing, it turns out Edwin's post has been officially confirmed by THQ! Check out the details here!

The problem with the series is that they set the bar so freakin' high with the first game, that it was always hard to live up to it. When looking at plot only, I'd completely agree with what you said. It's extremely hard to beat all the awesome plot twists of Homeworld 1. Probably one of the most memorable moments in my gaming life was when the Bentusi dropped in on me the first time, and we struck up an agreement. Or when you finally find why you were on Kharak... that cutscene ranks pretty damn high on my list.

Cataclysm was good for a stand-alone expansion, but it was never meant to be as good as the original, just different. The HW2 story had decent parts, but really sucked when put together.

However, if you take the plot out of it, and only focus on game mechanics, then it shows that they really improved over the years. I doubt I'm the only one that would love to see the HW1 plot on the HW2 engine. That game would kick ass.

Hopefully if they make a HW3 they'll be able to balance it out.

Thanks to the Games you should love thread I reinstalled Homeworld last night. Got it running on Win7 x64, and in widescreen borderless windowed mode.

Widescreen info here.

Anyway, this was the closest thing I saw to a Homeworld discussion topic from searching. Thought about starting a Homeworld series catch-all but just bumping this topic up might be enough to talk about.

Played through the tutorial to shake off the rust and the first couple missions last night. Already worried about my progress, as I lost my fighter fleet and all of my light corvettes on the first mission. If I remember, salvage corvettes are key, but mine got blowed up before I could capture any ships last night.

Damn you. I got all giddy thinking there might be some news on Homeworld 3.... *sigh*

The only thing Relic say is that they're not making it.

Blahhhhhhhh! sadness

You bastard.

Well... Relic did say that they are announcing something big in August. Which is either this, or Company of Heroes 2. I'd actually prefer Company of Heroes 2, but I would still really, really, really love this.

Company of what now? I got all distracted by the mere mention of Homeworld 3 and forgot all other games even existed for a minute there.

Oooo... This is a game that I never played. Where can I get it the cheapest? Fly my monkeys!!!

This would beat out CoH for me. I love me some epic space battles.

Higara... Our home.

As long as they include a manual as awesome as they did in Homeworld and Cataclysm it'd be a first day buy for me!

This is the kind of thread that makes Sally sad.

This and the X-Wing/TIE Fighter thread. It breaks my heart every time it gets bumped to the top of the list.

Don't get your hopes up.

I am angry that this is not real news about this game! Dont toy with my emotions.

This makes my heart all pitter patter. That could be indigestion though...

Seriously I really want this game even if they have to rename it and change it to a side scrolling pony shooter!
