The Secret World

So, apparently the extended shutdown is due to an exploit that people were using to farm aurum. Haven't really seen any details other than it was major.

I logged into the new version (after the extended shut down... and then even more extended game download and install).

I have to say, I really am looking forward to redoing all the quests. At first, I was annoyed that my progress had been reset, but then I realized that I really like the story and now that I've already finished once, I can replay and see how it all fits together. Really looking forward to getting back to the second Egypt area again.

I do have a complaint, and this is a stupid thing to be annoyed about, about the lack of/locking away of cosmetics. I wanted to recreate my character from TSW, but not all the same cosmetic choices are available. Also, despite having gone through the transfer process, not all of the clothing is available. Specifically some of the advanced deck outfits are either outright missing (executioner) or locked behind achievements which I have to re-unlock (Crusader). It's a silly thing to be annoyed about, but I thought the transfer process was going to give me all my old vanity items... not some of them and arbitrarily not all of them.

Still, I'll keep playing. I like the Secret World, and I'm looking forward to playing more!

One question: Does your character finally talk?

I'm probably going to uninstall WoW (I didn't even play the latest expansion) and install Secret World anyway, but it would be good to know.

No, your character still doesn't talk.
Hilariously, they do play with that some in game.
And really, if they're going to throw budget at voice actors, I'll take the fact that every single line of dialogue is fully narrated over a few quips from the PC.

Damn. I'll still play it anyway. You know, as much crap as Star Wars: The Old Republic gets, I love their story mode (especially the streamlined version of the last few years) and the fact that your character actually interacts. Happy to give this another try. Installing now, be back in about 3 weeks (OMG 46 GB)

I'm annoyed that just a small amount of my outfits came over from using the transfer...

Same here. I had a full suit and tie (trying to bring some class to the Secret World) and the suit and shirt came over but the pants didn't.

Then, even though it *says* I'm wearing them, neither will actually show on my character when I equip them.

None of my pets came over. That annoys me more than the clothes thing.

I notice they're now advertising this as a "shared-world action RPG" instead of an "MMO". They do seem to have tweaked it a bit to make it easier to solo.

The pets thing must be a bug, because I got all my pets. Maybe open a ticket?
And yeah, I'm annoyed about the outfits as well.

They made a point to say when Legends first started they were moving more to an action rpg mode than a mmo.

Also they made the quests easier. Looks like they made it where you dont have to google stuff anymore.

Oh THANK GOD

I played it a bit, somehow my entire character didn't transfer over, to be fair though I only had like a level 20 person so I hadn't put that much time into it.

Your character doesn't transfer over; just their cosmetic equipment and items.

Welcome back to Kingsmouth....

Also, for those of you missing cosmetic/pets/etc, log back into TSW classic and see if you have to reclaim a lot of stuff. Reading Reddit, that seems to be the case.

Wholeheartedly disagree with that sentiment. Main reason i had so much love for this game was the puzzle solving required to move the story forward.

Having to hunt down the composer of the most popular 4th July song and others like that was pure joy for me.

Walking into the room and seeing his name plastered on like 4 other new 'hints' is sad and almost enough to get me to just go full stop.

Oh ok, good to know! I wasn't all that concerned about it, was just a bit confused.

I'm a little between Ranalin and Budo on the searching stuff. I thought it was a really awesome idea, but in practice I would last about 5 minutes of searching before I'd get annoyed and just look it up.

Hey I can't argue with you on this. I didn't play nearly enough of the game to determine whether it's a good or bad mechanic. It sounds like what they should have done is kept the option for both. How to do that? No idea.

It is a bit more accessible than the original.
I am bummed because I can't remember what my old account is so I have none of the patron benefits. It cost heaps of gold to unlock the weapons you don't choose at the start. (like 20k per and I only barely have 1k)

I am going to try tracking down my old account. I like chaos and pistol just fine but I want to see the changes to the other weapons to see if I like something better.

So they're locked if you're not a patron?

Weapons are also unlocked from the start if you played the old game.
My current gripe is the 25 item inventory limit. Really? That barely holds anything.

I haven't had any problems with the inventory...yet... since they seem to have drastically reduced loot drops and any new items I find that aren't an improvement over current gear immediately gets fed to my current gear.

I am enjoying the game a lot more after rerolling a new character. The Elemental power is really fun.

Patron may be the wrong word. You don't need to subscribe.
Basically, if you create a new account that isn't linked to an original TSW account, the weapons not in your starter class must be bought with what seems to be a lot of in game money (at the start) attained by either playing the game or with real money.
I reset the credentials for my original TSW account now but I can't figure out how to link it with my new TSWL account. I've looked it up and there is no LINK button or link anywhere.
So I have uninstalled until the steam version is released to see if I can link them then.

Oh probably the same across the board. I'm in no hurry to try other weapons. I'm lvl 10 and have had them all but just feed them into the ones I use.

The link button is on the website on your account page

It is unfortunately not...
It won't let me login with my TSW credentials and when I log in with my TSWL credentials, there is no link.

Oh crap - how do I login to Legends vice Classic? On Steam it says Legends but I have a feeling it's classic - can you end up playing both?

They said both would be available, but I tried to log into classic (not through steam), and all it did was update my game to legends so... ?

Here you go to play the original:
http://massivelyop.com/2017/06/24/ps...

I have not verified it works. Is the original still a subscription game? I.E. do you have to subscribe to play or is the subscription optional?

Subscription has been optional for a while. It was a buy once and play for free game.
Which I wish they had stuck to. The idea of micro payments they had before anyway.

I still have the original downloaded on steam and can't play the update as it already says "in library" when I go to the store page.

I did the transfer a few days ago but as of last night I still do not have any pets, clothes or weapon page unlocks. I have a GM TSW account

Also, it sounds like if you did't actually retrieve stuff you bought in TSW (i.e. still in items to retrieve dialog) then those do not transfer. I know for at least the last year I was logging into the store page on the web to spend my GM tokens before they maxed out and all of that would have been waiting for me to retrieve so I lose out of those?
