Happy Hump Day Survey!

Man, how did that guy not die?!?

To be fair, he did eventually.

I always thought Death Proof had some amazing stunts. The special feature bit from the DVD is actually up on YouTube and is fascinating.

I am so grateful for this topic because it led me to an article entitled Crotchsport: The 15 Greatest Splits of Jean Claude Van Damme

Thought I'd share that gem with you all...

Love the driving stunts in Deathproof Playing ship's mast is totally on my bucket list (quite likely the last one I cross off considering my skills of coordination are not quite up to Zoe Bell standards...).

I hate to admit it, but Tom Cruise hanging from the outside of the 119th floor of the Burj Khalifa in Mission Impossible was pretty amazing. And it looks like he might have outdone himself for the next movie, hanging onto the outside of an Airbus A400M flying at 5000 feet. In Mission Impossible 6 they're going to have to have him hanging off the edge of the International Space Station.

Tom Cruise may be insane, but he has balls of steel.

Was there no Hump Day Survey this week? Today is the day! Seize it!

I guess I will throw one out there: What is the most important cultural touchstone for someone new to our times to know? Maybe it is a time-traveler from the 1950s, or someone who lived in a bunker underground for 30 years, what do they need to see/play/hear first?

Hmm. Obvious answer would be Star Wars, but I'm going to cheat a bit and say, "watch the entirety of Sesame Street". You'll get a window into our hopes, dreams, education, pop culture, and life stressors.

I would hand them an iPhone

I'd tell them to go back to 1950 and keep dreaming of a better 2015 than we have. /cynic

I'm taking them to Disney World. This has nothing to do with what they "should" experience and everything to do with wanting to take a 1950s person to Disney World.

Yeah, a smartphone. Show them how wasteful we are with our time on those stupid things. Especially with terribly written articles on Facebook / Social Media used to shock us into thinking the wrong way about tons of stuff based on underinformed half-truths.

Alternately, show them a Tesla and let marvel at how very similar our transportation is (still using rubber tire automobiles) while it is at the same time, so wildly different (silent electric motor that can launch you down the road).

Yeah, I think a smartphone sums up three of the biggest technological changes on society: the minimization and increased power of computers, the internet, and ease and mobility of communication.

That said, I've enjoyed my year without a cell phone. Shame it'll probably come to and end in November. Who'll lend me theirs to show to the time traveler in the meantime?

Mad Max Fury Road

But tell them it's a documentary.

Thanks Atras! we're on vacation and I totally forgot to post something (I thought I could remember!)

International Space Station

That got me thinking. I'd show them footage of humanity going to the moon. Oh wait. That was more than 30 years ago.

I'm with Clock on this one.

I would show him:

an interracial couple with kids.
a modern workplace with different races and genders represented.
a middle class residential neighborhood in suburban Washington DC.

Then I would show him crap like Baltimore and Ferguson.

FTFY

HAPPY HUMP DAY!!

What are your favorite fictional friendships? They can be just best friend pairs or a group of friends.

I'd say the friendship between my FemShep and Garrus (thanks for that shoulder to cry on after bumping into Kaidan on Horizon, buddy! ).
But if we're going for friendships between NPCs... Probably between Minsc and Imoen in BG2. Love the whole dynamics in pretty much any Mass Effect or Dragon Age game (the most recent is the game of Wicked Grace, so good, see below). Gotta add the friendship between Mission and Zaalbar while I'm at it, since I'm doing BioWare games (they're kinda good at this kind of thing).

Jeeves and Wooster.

Ooooh, very good choice.

I'll probably have a lot more to come up with, but right now it's the cast of How I Met Your Mother and, even though I lost some fondness for the show, I always think of Turk and JD from Scrubs.

They're my first thought too.

Xander and Willow from Buffy are a close second.

I was going to talk about My Best Friend Garrus but Eleima beat me to it.

Maybe a tie between
