Highlander has a good Church scene if memory serves. I'm also surprised no one has mentioned Sister Act yet.

Oh yeah, that's right, totally forgot about that one!! This is why I love this thread, because there are always so many great suggestions I wouldn't have thought of.
Yup, even Ladyhawke.

It's Hump Day already!!

Come up with a game concept inspired by a song. It can be based on the lyrics, title, or music video.

Aw, man. An essay question this week! :p

5000 words by the end of the day, Mantid! Double spaced, well researched and a works cited page at the end!

Double spaced was a lifesaver when your report length was based on pages.

David Bowie's Magic Dance - now for Kinect!

How about this?

Haha! It is exam week here at the University of Michigan

Paint it Black.

It's like an opposite version of De Blob.

Going with the abundance of zombie-related games we have these days - Dead Bodies Everywhere - Korn

Or, if the Oculus Rift really takes off, another Korn song - A.D.I.D.A.S - but I won't go any further than that...

Awwww, that was going to be my answer, but I would have referenced the GameCube Mario instead. :X

This topic is not super popular today, and I am BORED. If anyone wants to post a second/alternative question for today, please do!

How about, what is the worst joke you have heard recently?

Q: What is the fastest way to determine the sex of a chromosome?
A: Pull down its genes.

Recent only because I tell them incessantly.

Q. Why did the woman have postpartum depression?
A. Because she was de-fetused.

Spoiler:

I made it up several years ago during a gaming night. Reactions to it vary greatly. My wife punches me when she finds out I've told it again.

Q. What did the chicken do after it crossed the road?
A. It turned around and went 'bok'.

Spoiler:

Made that one for the kids. It mostly gets groans, but the folks on the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor at Disney got a big kick out of it.

Facing East, by Thievery Corporation.

Your character must always be facing east. Whenever he/she is not facing east, their life drains down. Of course, to deal with obstacles and challenges, you'll often be forced away from looking east, but you must be able to keep your bearings so that you can quickly get re-centered back on east.

Note, this is a 3D game. As a 2D side scroller, it would be incredibly easy.

This should fulfill both requirements. I would base a game on a Sigur Rós song. It doesn't matter which one really as long as it's not one in English. The game would look good, sound good, and I would have no idea what it was trying to say.

This isn't the most recent, but it's probably the one I've been exposed to most in my life, since it's my dad's favorite dad joke:

Q: What did the hat say to the hatrack?

A: You stay here, I'll go on ahead

So... Braid?

The Unfinished Swan

Don't feel bad, though. Everything I can think of exists in some form or another already. ONTOLOGY STRUGGLE.

She Blinded Me with Science

You are a woman who was held captive in a science lab, subject to experiments that gave you laser eyes. You must use stealth and the ability to blind people with your laser eyes to sneak out of the lab.

alternatively

A video game done in the graphical style of the Take On Me music video

Road Man by Smash Mouth,

In the vein of Euro Truck Simulator, you're a roadie driving the band's gear to events. If the gear doesn't get damaged, they get bigger and bigger, and you drive more gear in a bigger vehicle until you start doing world tours. Damaged gear costs the band, and therefore you, money and fame.

Edit:
Hard mode: No GPS, only a Rand McNally Road Atlas. More trains.

Is this one of those games that makes you hate yourself?

What do you call a ghost dressed up like a bee?
A boo bee.

Institutionalized by Suicidal Tendencies. Object of the game is to navigate through the parents schools, churches, and institutional learning facilities in order to obtain a Pepsi. Failure results in being Institutionalized.

The game end cutscene is of the player being hit by a car.

Winner!

I laughed quite hard at this.

He already told you it was like Euro Truck Sim, didn't he?

Also, just being silly about this: Whip It by Devo - another Castlevania game but with those funny hats they wear in the music video.

When I was in College I mapped out an entire game based off of Demonheart by Luca Turilli, combined with some lyrical inspiration from This Will Never End by Blind Guardian (You may feel / Resurrection open your eyes / The vision's bleak / And its color is black / Oh, far beyond there's a starving, dying sun ) and Evil Eyes by Savage Circus.

Basically wanted to create a sci-fi space shooter that involved overwhelming odds, science versus seemingly demonic creatures (with some of them featuring tongues that lashed out into a person, stuffed eggs into the body which then immediately incubated and burst out of the victim's body into brand new enemies), a demonic space God sealed away in a sun by a dying race, and a love story.

Looking back I feel like it was a great and horrible idea at the same time.

I don't think I've ever had a game idea inspired by a song lyric, not like that at least. Music does tend to fuel a lot of my creative ideas, though, at the very least in tone.

Gustav Holst's The Planets 1st movement: Mars, Bringer of War

The player character is a Roman warrior with enchanted gladii who has been told by Minerva that he can only find redemption by killing Mars, the Bringer of War.
