Bioshock Tips & Reviews (Spoilers)

Harvesting a sister nets me 160 Adam, but that might be different on Hard. I'm going through on Normal, but with auto-aim off. I'm displeased that I can't bang away at the hidey holes with my wrench to lure the little Adam tarts out.

By my math, after three Little Sisters, counting the reward you get, you will only be 40 adam behind if you are taking the rescue path. Still, even if the reward sizes stay constant, that could add up to a rather sizeable difference by the end of game. Either way, though, personally I'm sticking with rescuing. It is always very hard for me to be the "bad guy" the first time playing a game like this, but when luna in no uncertain terms said that I was NOT to kill the first of the Little Sisters, my mind was made up pretty firmly.

(And if nothing else does, that speaks to the power of the way that decision was presented -- usually, luna eggs me on and tries to get me to play games like KoTOR and Fable as a bad guy, and plays them the evil route herself. Even with Atlas' attempts to claim they were irredeemable monsters, presenting the harvest route as a morally gray decision, we both had a feeling in our gut that told us what had to be done.)

As a side note, I've had it where I'm whittling away Mr. B and the Sister wanders off... Dead daddy and no sister reward :|

I noticed that too, with the very first Big Daddy I killed. However, when I went back to the corpse, the description text showed 'Bouncer', so maybe it's a different type of Big Daddy, one that doesn't have an associated Little Sister.

I believe Bouncer and Big Daddy are one and the same. I had the same issue when I killed the first Big Daddy, but I ran around the room, looking in every corner and when I got back around to the corpse, the Little Sister was cowering next to it.

I think the bouncer title is the type of big daddy. I forgot to check the name of the one I killed with the gun, but I am guessing they are different types.

There's two flavors of Mr. B - Bouncer and Rosie. It seems they wander around and whenever they find a lil sis they tag along for protection until the sis goes back into a wall, then they just lumber about shaking my room until they cross paths with another.

A lil sis will stay beside her dead Big Daddy forever - as long as she was there when he bit it (even if you did too).

Anyone try picking up a working (preferably hacked!) turret with TK and relocating it? I know I've tossed a busted one at a splicer before...

The enrage plasmid causes your target to attack the nearest thing to it, whatever that might be (including you).

Actually, I believe it makes your target attack anything but you if anything else is around, BUT if nothing else is around it just makes them even more angry at you. Therefore it is a very BAD idea to use it on a Big Daddy if nothing else is around.

Bouncers seem to be one variety of Big Daddies, the kind with the drill arm.

As someone else mentioned, there is a variety called Rosies that carry a big, painful gun and grenades that show up in the third level.

I know, WTH? I was 100% planning to fill the lil cows with lead, light them on fire and generally be a twisted sick bugger. I even tried to waste the one in the demo (no joy) but in the end, I just couldn't do it...

Heres a tip.. they arent very good at navigating around corners...especially if the corner has something sticking out from it...

Thanks. I need more practice at this. It works but I must not be getting around fast enough. That or like I said before, I think the ground stomp clips through walls. It doesn't help that I was terrified. The Big Daddy's like a docile fat kid until you take his dessert. That crazy mofo can move.

I played for 10 hours straight yesterday, and have toasted my share of big daddies now and i think i have come up with a pretty foolproof way of toasting them. Inferno followed by an electrobolt and then pummelling them with flammable objects seems to weaken em up a bunch. and then 5-6 electrobuck shots to the face should take em down (this is on medium though...)

The camera helps a bunch to get your damage up there. Oh and as soon as you get sportsboost and its upgrades use it! You can strafe around those mofos like mad!
The only ones angering me so far are those bloody houdini splicers!! argh! take me out every time!
I fell out of my chair in the dental office when that gas pops up followed by the splicer.
How far is everyone at? I am doing sanders bidding now and i am beginning to get the feeling all may not be as it seems with atlas?

I'm just trying to remember. That very first Big Daddy and Little Sister pair you witness fighting a splicer in the game world, we were blocked from getting involved right?

I'm hoping I didnt miss my first opportunity to interact....

Just got back from (bioshock) lunch. I tried using telekinesis to pick up a hacked turret, couldn't pick it up. I'm thinking that the turrets are meant to stay where they are, unless I'm missing something.

If you reach the spot where you first decide to harvest or save your first Little Sister (the one without the Big Daddy fight) make your decision then turn around and look at the banner hanging above you. BAM! I decided to be a heartless bastard and kill her, and when I saw that banner I thought that Dick Che--err, Andrew Ryan was cheering me on.

Yes. It all takes place behind glass, if I remember correctly.

If you saved her she'd just run off to get killed by the splicers someplace else in the city. Assuming they don't do worse to her first. So by killing her you're actually doing her a favor.

Don't go to Xbox360achievements.org. I made the mistake of glancing at the list and they have all of the "secret" ones spelled out. Some definite spoilerage there. Just passing it along as a favor to any of the other achievement score whores (like me) out there. Play through it the 1st time and then see the ones you missed if you're a completionist.

Yea... hugely spoilerific - I made my mistake on gamefaqs.com

I made the same mistake this morning by visiting xbox360achievements.org. I scrolled down too far on the list, and my eyes read something in a flash that I wish my brain hadnt registered.

Forcing my eyes up and away, closing the browser session immediately, I spent the next few moments trying to relax my brain and erase the four or five word phrase I had read while reminding myself weakly that I can forget what I saw.. I can... I can... I c a n ' t..... damnit.

Oh well.... I'll forget... I think.. maybe? ah poop!

What kind of disappoints me in the design so far that there is no progression or continuity of BDs in terms size, weapons loadout etc. There are just Big Daddies, but no Small or Mid-size Daddies. There are essentially just splicers, and BDs. While It'd be interesting to see more of the Ryan's minions packed into the different kinds of diving suits, armed with different stuff (maybe spearguns), or maybe even to see how BDs look without the suits (ie what kind of horrible monsters they could be)...

I've been leading them to a hacked turret, electro shotgunning them, then electrifying them to reload. If it's a Rosie then I try to grab her proxy's out of the air and chuck 'em back.

Armor piercing tommy gun and pistol works quite well. Freezing them before and then snapping a shot so I can research their weakness.

Oh.. good idea. I was using the method where they smash you in the face with projectiles well I am framing my photo.

Stop expecting the game to recognize you made a moral choice and provide the appropriate ramifications. That's never been the point of right and wrong. It doesn't matter if the world notices. It matters if you do.

Perfectly said, good sir.

I despise item hunting quests with every fiber of my being. "Collect 7 of this, 5 of this, and 5 of this to make the thing you need to progress!"

Half an hour later and I still don't have but two or three bits of it and I'm getting really irritated with the game. It was awesome up until this point and now it's just tedious and stupid.

Like the game overall, but the whole camera thing is a little weird. Feeling like I need to snap a picture of an enemy as it's coming towards me to get an upgrade isn't exactly helping the immersion.

Holy hell, is there any easy way to bring down a Big Daddy, or are we still at the "Pray and shoot" method?

Also, maybe I'm understanding the icons wrong on the Start menu, but were there more than two Little Sisters you could help/harvest on the first deck (the medical ward)? I know I took down three Big Daddies, but only got two Sisters (one being the very first one that backs herself against the crate).

Huh? Weird.

That part and the fetch quest stuff isn't helping to push me over the edge to give this game a try. The story, atmosphere, immersion are the main reasons I'm interested.

Vrikk, sometimes if a Big Daddy wanders in without a little sister in attendance it's best to follow him. They wander up to those vents in the wall and pound a two or three times and the little not-a-girl-anymore will crawl out onto his arm or something. Then you can harvest away

I killed one when he was alone and I'm pretty sure that's where I missed one little sister at.

That said.. I've got no happy tips for the Big Daddy. I tend to just do a lot of sidestepping and go through a lot of energy and ammunition. Shock, shoot, dodge, repeat.

It's been a few hours now and I'm still upset that there's a big-ass fetch quest.

Use Winter Blast to freeze them and then get close for a good photo. The electrical plasmid also works.

Aww, so I missed some of the Little Sisters? Gorramit! Now I'm going to have to restart...

Question: I'm early in the game but got to the point where the Electrical, Fire, and Telekenisis plasmids were all available, but there were only 2 slots. I got the fire first and replaced it with Telekenisis, and now a few areas that were iced over are blocked to me. Can I get the fire back and go back to these areas relatively soon, or are extra slots few and far between? I was disapointed when the first Garden machine didn't sell extra slots.
Also, is there any way to change what your current configuration of slots is without picking up a new plasmid? I haven't found any way to do that.

Here's a hint. If you hit "start" and go to the menu screen, at the very bottom it will tell you how many Little Sisters are in the level, and how many you've rescued/harvested.

Has anyone been in a position to make two Big Daddies fight each other? I had two walking around in the fisheries, but they were in different areas. I didn't want to start up anything as I had already taken care of the little sisters, but I'm considering using that as a possible strategy in the future provided the opportunity presents itself.

Question for those that have gotten farther. Is it in my best interest to conserve Atom like a stingy miser or can I spend it freely? Im going the 'kill the little girl route' so I've been able to wipe out the few vendors of their plasmids and tonics so far.
