APF2k8 - Legends League S1 - Week 1

Pages

This is a dual purpose thread. Fingers crossed this becomes the thread to discuss week 1 of the league. It's also my attempt to convince everyone to join up so we can get this thing rolling. We briefly almost sorta had a league yesterday, but some people got left behind, so we're trying this again. If you want to play, please sign up as soon as you can. If we end up stuck on 12 or 13 again I'm going to *sigh* very loudly.

One spot left. If you have the password and want it, please come claim it.

Not that we need it once everyone is there, and firesloth was able thru some magic to see that frankiemumbles who was on the last roster (2nd try) has yet to sign, so hopefully soon (and how did you see that fire'. In game and at 2K Sports (which really is bad until season get's under way. After that, looks like allot of cool stuff), I can't get a clue.) I did start a roster roll call on 2K, but with one left, not really necessary any more(and more importantly fire' was able to determine who was left). Hopefully soon. I have till Thursday (and maybe Friday early) to play the first one. Then I'm gone till the following Wednesday(15th).

The once everyone there is the tricky part so far. Everyone wasn't there with 14. Everyone was there with 12, but some people got left out. Now magically we're missing people again at 14. I shudder at the thought of what it's going to take to get actual games played.

Actually I think the games themselves will be the easy part.

I hope so. I don't want to nag people. I signed up to facilitate. Not to take the slings and arrows of Team Owner discontent.

frankie's on XBL, and in APF...so crossing my fingers we will be shortly a full league! Yowser!!

If you log onto the league site and click on Teams (not on any of the drop down menu stuff), it gives you a list of all the teams and their owners....I count *14*!!

Don't see a schedule yet, but that may mean we just await a go-ahead from our awesome Commish!

Still no schedule

I can't imagine odds are high that whomever is my first opponent will be able to play late tonight like I will.

I'll be on tonight.

I'll generate it tonight. I'm on the West Coast and still at work and didn't rush home when I found out the league finally filled. Sorry.

Oh, that's sweet sweet irony. So I tried generating the schedule online from work because people wanted it generated quickly and the website borked the league.

Does it show up all screwed up on the 360 too?

League recreated. Pile back in and I promise I won't make the mistake of using 2k's site for that again. I was trying to get it going for those of you who wanted it up and running. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Worse. It freezes your 360. Weird.

No!!!!

Man, DS, sorry this is taking so much from you...

So I'm back in. I even took the opportunity to switch away from the crap team logo I had before whilst keeping my team themselves the same.

It's okay. I've just had a rough week. Quick recap for those that may have missed it in another thread. Hopefully this explains why I've gotten frustrated at times, or exonerates me a little.

---------------------------------------

I started the week thinking major restructuring at work was my biggest worry. Then on the 31st my little brother was hit by a drunk driver. That car accident triggered a near fatal heart attack in my little brother. His heart rate racing wildly between 180 and 240. They saved him, but then found out that he had Wolf-Parkinson White Syndrome in the process.

So the next day they performed surgery on his heart. Everything went fine, but then the next day they scanned his heart and determined that he had had lots of little heart attacks over the years as a result of this condition. So he's now on medication for high blood pressure and on Lysinipro (sp?) for his heart, in addition to aspirin, a new diet, etc.

I spent much of the last week comforting my mom, trying to convince my little brother (only 26) it was going to be okay. Trying to convince him that his life wasn't over because he had this heart condition. Trying to convince him that the bills weren't going to break him, helping with paperwork, etc.

Yesterday I walked into the DMV with him and gave him my car, the one that's paid for. I can afford it, he can't and he needs reliable transportation as he works on getting better and paying off the bills he's going to have, navigating the legal system and everything else. I figured as stressed as he was, as much as he'd sobbed and sobbed, I wanted him to have as little to worry about as possible.

Anyway, that was my last week. Oh, and my wife and I spent our 9th Wedding Anniversary on the 1st at the hospital. That's life, though.

Anyway, I guess the point of all this, since I'm like the emo commish or something, is to say that if I've sounded frustrated about the complaints I've heard or overreacted, I apologize. I've had a lot on my plate and I've been trying to manage the league for fun. And in those times where people have complained, when balanced against the rest of my life right now, it hasn't always been as fun.

Hopefully we can fill the league back up, I'll stay far away from the 2k website, and we can get it rolling so we can have 8 weeks (or less if we're quick) of fun distraction.

Hey man, the best to you and yours. Out the blue, serious stuff like this is really jarring to say the least.

And of course, the least of you worries is setting this league up at a time of family crises. But there you are doing the best you can and things keep going awry. Talk about a chunk of bad karma coming down on ya.

Anyway, don't sweat the small stuff. I'm sure everyone will jump on this pretty pronto and we'll be underway. (many jumped on last night almost as soon as you made the announcement. I text messaged others that weren't on about the redo in case they didn't check here first. Not sure I got everyone).

Take care!

DS -- You have done nothing that would need exoneration. We're all with you, man, and have the best wishes for your family.

Hopefully playing some football will help you stay loose through all of this!

Speaking of which, Grump and I had a really fun practice game last night. He pretty much spanked me. But, I managed to make it a bit interesting in the end by scoring late and recovering *2* on-side kicks, one of which lead to a TD (I suspect he was going easy on me). An ill-timed penalty let the clock tick down (I had called a TO, but because of the penalty, it didn't register, and I didn't notice time ticking down), and I wasn't able to test out Del Greco's leg...I passed on a 51 yard FG attempt to tie, instead choosing to throw an INT to Ronnie Lott on the last play. Great fun, though!

No worries DS. I'm just thankful someone took the reigns in starting the league. Besides, it gave me a chance to fine tune my uniforms a little bit more.

Firesloth: If Del Greco's leg is anything in the game like it was when he was here in TN, you better not try anything past 35 yards. Accurate as hell, but distance.... yeah, not so much.

Firesloth: Wow, sounds like a great game. But your telling me that you got TWO on side kicks to work? Wow!! I've read and thru my own experience these are very rare. Good karma man! Good karma.

Yeah, I'd tried without success once or twice before, but "Magic Legs" Del Greco came through. It wasn't as if I fooled Grump -- I alerted him I was gonna' try it. Really, I didn't do much of anything, my guys just recovered it. And they were on subsequent kick-offs: score, on-side recovery, score, on-side recovery.

Oh, and regarding AI penalties -- Grump was hit by a harsh one by his AI. On one of my hurry-up drives, I did a Randall Cunningham leap over the pile for a first down on 4th-and-inches. After he was down, Dick Butkus came barreling in to leap on him well after the fact, resulting in a late hit penalty. We watched the replay, and it was clearly a late hit, and Grump was clearly controlling a D-lineman...I suppose they didn't call that as much when Butkus was in the league! (This made up for a nice late hit I put on someone...stupid X-button reflex from Madden).

I'm sure that's specifically programmed to happen more often for Butkus.

Man, he's so awesome. I still love Dick.

I appreciate that. My little brother is doing better. He just faces an uphill struggle for a long time. And I face a long lifetime of having to be a better brother than I am so that he knows he's never alone.

Indeed. That's what I was/am hoping.

Thoughts, prayers, and best wishes, DS.

Thank you for the new sig kind sir

Another sig bites the dust.

We're holding at 13 again. I saw Prederick on yesterday and mentioned to him we are having to sign up again, but he didn't reply and I'm not seeing him on the roster yet, so he may now be passing. I'm going out of town sometime today or tomorrow morning and will be gone till next Wednesday. I'm sure it wills start up tomorrow:>) (I'm not sure why I'm so eager to get wupped.)

*sigh*

I threatened to sigh a lot the last time we were stuck at 13.

Has someone contacted him to let him know what's going on?

I'm sure he'll get to it today/tonight sometime. Pred's usually up extremely late.
