Proposition: Chicago Slap & Tickle

Yeah, but it's not over nowish. It goes weeks past nowish. If not, the original suggestion of something after the first week of October works too.

October works for me.

Celtic Fest in Grant Park

Anyone interested for this weekend?

Interested? Hells yes. Available? Not at all.

So I was walking back from working out last night and stumbled upon a free German Fest some group was putting on. To my delight I was able to indulge myself with pretty good HB beer, cheddarwurst, potato salad, etc.

Got me to thinking about the ideas being thrown around. I agree with McChuck above. Celtic Fest sounded like a great idea, but i was unavailable with an Ultimate tourney all weekend.

October has been voiced as a good option. Start working out specifics?

I sure hope someone does!

Yeah, I can't plan this one, I don't know anything about the city. The only thing I can do is probably show up.

How exactly have I missed this thread? Have I been at work that much lately? Yes... Yes I have.

That being said, I'm super busy in October. Wifey's birthday, closing down the lake cottage for the year, etc. Best weeks for me are the first one and the third one, but even that's stretchin' it.

I would say the 3rd week would be better for me too. Considering I'll be in Vegas for the first one.

So you city dwellers, lets get on the ball with some details. It doesn't have to be anything fancy.

I'm OK with doing smaller things in October and then maybe again in November.

My first day at my new job is October 1. I should have my new apt found about two weeks later, and be fully moved up before November. I shall be ready

3rd weekend of October seems to be good for everyone. Now which night? Friday the 19th, or Saturday the 20th?

I prefer Friday since I don't have anywhere to be Saturday mornings.

All in favor of Friday, 19 October?

I'll try to be there. Where are we going to be? Anywhere near Union Station? Since that is where I'll be getting off of the train from.

I am good for October 19th.

Now we have to figure out venue and what's going to happen. Never done a slap and tickle and pretty sure we do not have the resources to match what Souldaddy's Austin Slap and Tickle is going to be. Which is ridiculous.

We could try to find something off of an L stop that is near Union Station and easy to get around.

I live a couple blocks west of Union Station in Greektown. There are purveyors of pints in the vicinity, if that's our pleasure.

As for L stops, it'll likely be the Blue Line's UIC-Halsted stop or, in a pinch, the Green Line's Clinton stop. I've walked from Loop stops, but that's getting to around a mile away.

Anyway, are we thinking more of a meet & greet, or more games?

With any luck, I'll be stopping into Dugan's (pub on Halsted, between Monroe and Adams -- across from the Greektown Walgreen's if anyone knows it) this weekend. I'll see what the deal is there for reserving the back room.

I could possibly be up for heading downtown to meet some goodjers and drink some beers. I don't know the city for crap, but would also be getting off at Union were I to take the train.

On my mental map, Dugan's is four blocks due west of Union Station. You can see its neon shamrock towards your right as you cross the highway on Adams.

How is parking down there? Awful?

Not impossible at night, but not simple if you want to do it for free. There are meters and some free street spots, but there are also some permit streets.

Before moving to this area, I used to take dates to Greektown, because all the restaurants have free valets. If you want to eat lamb first, I guess that's an option.

Alright, how do I make this an event on the calendar?

You have to create a new topic and one of the tabs says Event.

Maybe this would help. I made an event, but not all of you seem to have followed us over to that thread. It can be found here.
