Mission Improbable: Clear the Pile

I'll go for metroid prime.... i've played it before and got stuck at meta ridley but i recently restarted it but haven't picked it up for a number of weeks.

There's not much time left this month but i'll definitely give it a try.... though i may need to cheat a little and use an FAQ to beat ridley....

Duoae, since this is the first one, the end is July 31st. You've got a about 6 weeks.

I want to make this fun, not a chore. Work the old stuff into some of your gaming time. Don't let it crowd you out of your normal playing habits. I don't plan to stop playing Gears, Shadowrun, Forza 2 or Viva Pinata (finally found a game the whole family likes), I will try and set some of that time aside in order to finish SotC.

I want to do Advanced Wars and Mercenaries.

What do you all think about leaving a platform title on the list until it gets some traction? Right now it looks like Mercenaries for Xbox is not going to get any play. Should I pull it next month and put another Xbox title, or leave Mercenaries on there until someone plays it?

But hey, I'M playing Mercenaries! It'll probably take me 40 hours to beat the last mission anyway. And now Edwin as well.

Oh, okay. I thought it was for the end of this month

I wasn't going to put down other games i'm playing. Currently i'm loving driving in Test Drive. Love the open air of the island and the races - in fact i wish there were more races and less camera traps and time trials. I had a race around the island twice the other day. Was coming first until the last 200 meters when there was a sharp corner. I took the corner perfectly but i didn't have as good an acceleration as the other cars and so i came fourth Loved every minute of those 45 minutes

Alright, I'll give it another shot. Put me down for Shadow of the Colussus.

Shadow of the Colossus

Loaded up my save and I discovered I had beaten 6 of them. Finally found the path to the 7th colossus. This was the eel looking one. It was a fun battle, but the controls for this haven't aged well. Also, the visuals really needs some anti-aliasing, jaggies make baby jebus cry. I do believe next gen has spoiled me. I may move the PS 2 out to the TV that supports Progressive Scan, maybe that will help.

It still has the great score and the epic battles, but the bulk of the game seems to be riding your horse around trying to figure out where the frak the stupid colossus is. I am now being gently reminded why I stopped playing in the first place. Hopefully playing in smaller doses will lessen some of the frustration.

Hemi, I think it would be considered very bad form if you flaked on the very first game of your personal Pile o' Shame. Especially since you got all the rest of us organized and fired up and all.

I installed Fallout last night, created a new character, and killed all the rats in the cave. It was already late, so I saved at Shady Sands. The first time, I kept cheating and glancing at the FAQ, but still managed to miss the whole radaway thing with the Glow (serves me right). This time, I'm just going with my gut. Screw walkthroughs and guides.

Oh, I won't quit, but I won't pull any punches, either.

It really does have the "epic" feel to it, I just want that feeling more than the, "Which way do I need to point this damn horse?" It makes me want to buy Ico again and finish it this time.

Put me down for God of War 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. I've got both on the go right now and should be able to finish them by the end of the month. Especially since I'm in a Metal Gear mood lately. Along with Subsistence, I've got Ac!d 1 and 2, and the Digital Graphic Novel in rotation on my PSP.

I'm in the casino! Mind you, I quickly got smeared against the wall once my team neared the first slot machine room, but.. at least I'm not still on the prequel mission anymore. Right?

Mercenaries keeps locking up when I move between territories.

Okay, okay, okay. I promise to finally just beat Half-Life 2.

Great thread guys, good time of year to tackle some games you missed!

It's funny, but I have so much less free time now that it's summer. Something about subzero temperatures always helps give me the excuse to stay home.

Edit: That something is probably the cold.

OK, what do I have that I have to beat...

Sam & Max (original), The Longest Journey, Supreme Commander single-player campaign, Company of Heroes.

Go for Sam & Max, it's a classic.

With my 360 out of commission, I decided it was the perfect time to tackle some the pile o shame.

I put in Shadow of the Colussus, figured out where I was, and made it to the next Colossus without too much hassle. But fighting the Colossus sucks.

I figured out the problem. I just don't like this game all that much. Sure I respond the the emotional moments, destroying the beautiful (innocent?) colossi for no apparent reason, but playing the game isn't any fun. It's difficult, and not challenging for the right reasons. I'm fighting the camera rather than the colossi and not enough is happening when I am trying to manuver into position.

I think I'm just going to write this game off. I had beaten 8 colossi and was on number 9. Oh well. I still have other games on the list to try.

Smack the brass bell, scrub.

I went and beat 8 and 9 today. I agree that the game's controls are frustrating, but I just want to see how the damn thing plays out.

I just finished God of War 2. I agree with the EGM dudes: no more f*cking quicktime events. I almost gave up on the game because of them. All y'all who beat the game know what I'm talkin' about I'm sure!

What's toughest about this for me is that the games that distract me from my goal are the most dangerous ones, open-ended games with tons of replayability (for me, mind you). Football Manager, Medieval II, Europa Universalis III and Rollercoaster Tycoon III have proven such a hindrance that i'm actually just installing HL2 now.

I must learn discipline.

Shadow of the Colossus

I beat 10 and 11 last night. Once I got over the hump of not being able to find the path to 8, things seemed to fall into place.

I dug the fight in the coliseum and I could have skipped the guard/dog bull type one. The huge bug one that spits ground churning electrical blasts with the geysers was a humongous PITA

@ Hemi's spoiler: You mean the one I'm fighting and the one I don't feel like beating? Yeah he sucks.

Vegas is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I'm only getting through a few checkpoints per session I play. I can already feel that this is going to be a game that I feel accomplished after I beat it. I can do it!

Some info for you

Which one? If it's the geyser one, I can tell you that after the first time you get him off balance, but not toppled over, stay close. He'll do the ground stomp thing, but the death plasma balls stop. If you get him toppled and can get on his back, he's really easy.

If you want any more info, I'll post it.

Having recently finished Kameo I think it's time to tackle the Perfect Dark Zero single player campaign. I think after that, the only other 360 game I have that I can "finish" is Oblivion but I'm not prepared to commit to that one any time soon.

Was out of town for a wedding all weekend. I will play, I swear!

Well I screwed up my run through the second disc of FFVII. I missed the W-Item materia and an enemy skill from Behemoth. I also did not kill the Ultima Weapon before getting to disc 3 for whatever reason. I need to go through the end of disc 2 again. :/

Ouch. I have five of those listed: Okami, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime, God of War II, and R6: Vegas. Plus many more.

I'll commit to wrapping up Twilight Princess and R6:Vegas, at very least. I'm nearly done with both.

I don't know that I'll ever complete Metroid Prime. Damn that Meta Ridley.

You dang perfectionists!
