Rock Band catch-all

I really love that one Crash Test Dummies album. To the point that I should buy more, but I haven't.

I'll sing as soon as they add Crash Test Dummies to the set list.

Low droning voice Superman Song Dummies or high pitched falsetto voice Give Yourself a Hand Dummies? ;)

Oh the former. If "Afternoons and Coffee Spoons" gets on there, you better be ready to... well, not "rock" per se, but you know.

I think this is a pretty cool idea by them.

Makes me happy.

Aw hell naw, I'll have to challenge your spot for lead guitar. A guitar duel, much like that movie Crossroads with the Karate Kid has to ensue.

I'm sorry but I will win. Not on skill, of which I'm sure you have more. But because I fight dirty. I'll sweep the leg.

We totally need a Battle of the Bands thread when this comes out. Goodjer on goodjer action.

No doubt. Pre-falsetto CTD was just so good.

Whoa, what's the high neck buttons for? Solos?

Yup.

Sweet.... so the colors are reversed for Rock Band?

That's a smart looking guitar, wow.

No?

Ha ha, AWESOME. I'm so in.

I can't believe I'm the only one who's annoyed by this. They've added a couple small alterations (effects selection knobs, and the second set of buttons) to make it so that while you can use your Guitar Hero controllers, you're going to be constantly reminded that you could be having more fun if you just go out and buy EA's $80 guitar controller. Great.

I echo your annoyment.

That guitar looks to be a lot more conducive to the lefty flip, compared with the GH2 guitar.
And Wordsmythe, we may have to have a Crash Test Dummies duel, just for sh!ts and giggles.

I'm with you guys. I've already dropped enough cash on guitar controllers.

Ah, so clear this up: The Guitar Hero original controller will work with Rock Band, right? Or will the "Solo frets" make it unusable for the game?

I actually have wanted a second guitar controller since about the time I first played GH2 (my first GH experience). Getting the new one with Rock Band will do nothing but fulfill my dirty dorkish desires.

Guitar/Bass: 3/4 exact replica of a Fender Stratocaster. Xplorer guitars may work on 360 but with limited features. New buttons for solo sections. Five-way switch to apply sound effects.

From page one.

They may hit a bit of resistance trying to sell controllers the third time around. That, and they are only selling to the PS3 and 360, with a much smaller install base than the PS2 has.

If you're someone who started with Guitar Hero on PS2 and bought GH2 for the 360, choking down even more peripherals could be a tough pill to swallow. It seems like they have hit a weird snag in crossing generations. If they hadn't been working with such a large install base on the PS2 then the GH games wouldn't have had as much of a chance to succeed(wildly). In a better world, however, we would not be buying peripheral controllers every year for 3 years for what is in essence the same game. You don't buy a new joystick for every new flight game, for example.

I'm sure Harmonix/EA would have loved to have made Rock Band work only with proprietary controllers, but I'd guess they evaluated correctly that most people would balk at yet another $50+ accessory.

EA/Harmonix have previously stated that the GH controllers will work with Rock Band but won't be able to take advantage of certain new features. Since then, it is been revealed that the new features are knobs for selecting effects and the second set of fret buttons. There has not been any talk of exactly how either of these functions will work, though. My hope would be that the effects will either be completely ancillary to the gameplay or will be selectable in another manner, and that the second set of fret buttons really just duplicate the functionality of the first set (and thus really don't matter).

On page one the devs said it was the same buttons just somewhere else on the neck. If you look at the picture they are the same colors. The other things on the controller are a different matter.

As long as the upper and lower fret buttons are identical, we're cool. I'm not too put out by the lack of an effects switch, either. But if they're introducing some game play element that requires the newer guitars, we got a problem. That is asshattery.

zero, you represent me entirely in these matters. Luckily for me, I never made the jump to 360. Unluckily for me, I may have learned this weekend that the tilt function of my 2 PS2 guitar-cons has started to go out.

Here's a question - the GH Xplorer works in Rock Band, to some degree? Well, will the Rock Band Strat work in GH3? I mean, it's got some extra stuff...

It will. They already said it will.

That's until the GH3 people develop their new and improved guitar though, right?

If only this war would turn into a price war that was good for the consumer...

That shouldn't be a surprise anyways since the fret and pick buttons broke a long time ago.

Curse Firefox in 256-color-remote-desktop-so-I-can-goodge-at-decent-framerates-from-the-office mode! That pic had me worried for a second.... the Orange and Green colors were reversed... It looks correct in Internet Explorer.

Anyone know if Guitar Hero 3 is coming out for PS2 also?

I don't have neither Xbox360 or a PS3 yet.

I thought Rockband was coming out for PS2 also, but apparently not.
