Guitar Hero 3 Announced

I only saw one poor sap with the PS3 version, the Wii pallet appeared untouched.

I'll be picking it up on the Wii since it's the only next-gen console I own, and unlike the PS2, it will have an online component. I hope at least one person from the site gets it on the Wii so we can have some intense guitar showdowns. Now I just need to find a spare $80.

Yes and it really pisses me off. Every now and then I'd get a hitch like that in GH2, but it was rare. I've played about 15 tracks so far and it's happening just about every other track on average, I'd guess.

Woah. Wal-Mart versions of GH3 might not include the new controller. The box tells you what you're getting, but strange nonetheless. This affects the 360 versions, too.

Yes, I got burned by the Walmart controler bait and switch this afternoon. Have to take it back tomorrow

I saw this in a few stores earlier today. I played at two of them - both were running the PS2 version and I know they had GH2 displays for the PS2 before, so they didn't want to or didn't bother putting out a next-gen version.

Which meant the guitars were beat to hell - I failed a tier 1 expert song in seconds because (many) button presses weren't registering. (For comparison, I don't have any trouble passing any songs on expert in GH2 - besides Jordan.)

I only played 2 songs - Story of my Life and er, something on Tier 2. No one had unlocked anything further.

Both songs dragged on a minute+ too long. It's still guitar hero. The guitars were too crappy to really tell if the hit detection had changed significantly.

The look seemed off - the colors were flat or something. I wasn't wowed but if Rock Band weren't coming out I'm sure I would be happily playing. Here's to hoping Rock Band raises the bar.

I am also having no luck linking my Live code to the guitarhero.com account. Good to know that I am not the only one too, that way it should get fixed. I just spent the last three hours, with a little break in between, 5 starring all of the songs on medium. At least on medium it seems to be easier than GH2 was on medium. I can't imagine having a real hard time beating the game on hard either. There really is no thrash/metal until the final two tiers and those are the songs that usually cause me the most trouble.

Time to watch some football...and rest my wrist.

Story of My Life is about 7 minutes too long if you ask me :p worst song in the game.

Fortunately, there are a dozen great songs that make up for it.

The leaderboards annoy me too. Its another case of game companies not looking at what others have done. You don't have to look too far to find a well done leaderboard system that gives you 1 button access to your own score, your friends' scores, and some idea of just how many people are on the board you're looking at.

Question: my friend is picking up the Wii version, and since i'm not convinced I want the entire game I figured I might want to pick up just the guitar to play with him. I haven't seen a stand-alone guitar for sale anywhere, though. Is this normal at launch, where they force you to buy the bundle? Will a stand alone guitar eventually come out?

I've seen the stumble you're talking about with the fretboard 'lurching' and I've also noticed a number of times when star power is auto-triggered on the 360 version.

Anyone else had this happen?

The game is great overall... happy to have purchased it.

Star power activates for me the second I earn the ability to use it no matter what I do. With Guitar Hero 2 I had the opposite issue. The star power would hardly ever activate. I figured it was just the guitar.

Anyone seen any deals on the game? Best I can do is $5 off with free shipping from Gamefly on the game only.

I haven't had this issue at all. Could check some of the calibration features in the game's Options menu. I think there was one for the frets and for the whammy bar. Not sure they'd make any difference with the Star Power registering better, but you never know.

Raining Blood.

Holy f*cking sh*t.

If you think that's hard, wait till the last boss battle. That one's driving me crazy.

Yeah, the guitar seems to be uber sensitive in regards to activating star power. I have to concentrate on keeping the guitar still in order to save it which is sort of a pain.

This happened to me as well at first, but seems to have stopped. Perhaps the 360 caches the song now? Not sure about what's happened to make it stop.

I'm just glad In Flames is on there now.. 10/10.

It's a relief to know other's are seeing the lurching. I was wondering if I was about to earn 3 Red Rings for a performance. Here's hoping there's a 2nd game update that fixes it.

Signed up at GuitarHero.com but the account linky no worky... you'd almost think they're getting slammed on launch day.

I noticed this as well, it's not as cartoony maybe? The sets are impressive looking to a certain extent. The tractor trailer with Pontiac something or other banner on it is amusing. I just KNOW all hard core rocker dudes are dying for a Pontiac. The stage with the blatant cans of Red Bull was disappointing. I suppose I should be glad there aren't more intrusive product placements.

Did anyone like the ADHD inspired cut scenes? I was getting a little nostalgic for a simple Van moving from A to B with a cute little "Vroooom... urrrp!" sound effect after the 3rd or 4th video spasm.

Fact: Your opinion is wrong.

I picked this up today on a whim, I was going to wait for reviews. The boss battles are pretty much everything I was afraid they were going to be. Hopefully some kind of cheat codes get posted so I can just skip past them, because they are entirely lacking in fun.

Yeah, I just got through it after about 15 attempts (on Hard).

What I did was just save up the 2 powers I had from the first section of solos, until the second solo section came around. I was able to use them one after another, and earned another one, and the three in a row were enough to make quick work of him.

But, yeah. Suck.

This is a lot like dating.

I should grip the neck and shake vigerously? :O

I found myself thinking exactly the same thing. At first I didn't mind the new cut scenes between gigs, but they got a little too frenetic and bizarre after awhile. Also, I'm not all that thrilled with some of the gig locations. Making a Video (complete with crowd noise from a non-existent audience) and Hell? Seriously? W.T.F.?

Is anyone also having problems with the online play? I've tried three quick matches now, two failed to connect and one completely locked up my console. (Also, my gamercard is ubrakto if anyone is up for giving online multiplayer a shot. I'm done for the night, but I'll be back online tomorrow.)

Chiggie and I tried it out. It locked up as we picked songs the first time, and locked up for me after we played the songs the second.

Ok, time to move this game out of a 400-post thread and into a review thread.
