Co-op Shooters?

My brother has the summer off from school and I have the summer off for being unemployed, both of us have beefy PCs and we're 8 states away from each other. So...

Anyone know of any quality co-op shooter experiences? We've got RTS covered in Dawn of War and possibly Supreme Commander. What about shooters? Know of any good co-op shooters to try? We're thinking on the rainbow six series but what about a more classic FPS that's more straightforward? Are there any mods for HalfLife2 that add interesting cooperative gameplay? Doom3 added it in a patch, I hear, but neither of us is really interested. anything else?

Edit: Any other great co-op experience (PC only, I doubt I'll convince him to get a 360) might be worth mentioning. Are there any co-op RPGs out there? (dont say WoW)

Perhaps Diablo II? (I recently broke that game out again, it's fun times.)

There is also Sven Co-op, a Half-Life 1 mod.

My experience with Rainbow Six multiplayer is limited to Rogue Spear. While it could be a lot of fun, one-hit-kills can lead to long wait times for a round to end.

And don't forget Ventrilo!

Diablo 2 is a great suggestion, but as far as shooters go I think you've already got the best one in the Rainbow Six series. Raven Shield is awesome in co-op and you can get it pretty cheap these days.

I guess if you want something even more straightforward Serious Sam and it's sequel would both fit the bill.

Rainbow Six: Vegas and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 are definite shooters to hit for co-op play. R6 co-op has one of the highlights of my gaming year so far, though I imagine both games being at their best on the 360 rather than the PC.

Both of you should absolutely jump all over Left 4 Dead when it releases, supposed to hit PC sometime in the summer, with the 360 version coming later in the fall.

SWAT 4 might be something that belongs on your radar.

You also said classic straightforward FPS, well, you don't have to look any further than the Serious Sam games for that. (EDIT: beaten to the punch!)

Advanced Warfighter 2 isn't out on the PC yet is it?

And while Vegas is indeed out for the PC.. it will make even the most fancy 8800 equipped rigs out there cry a bit if you crank everything up.

Good on ya for mentioning Left 4 Dead though

Be on the lookout for Left 4 Dead.

No, don't know when it releases either, but it's gotta be coming up sometime soon enough. It's already in all of Dell's advertisements in PC gaming mags...

That's why these guys with beefy gaming PCs should add a 360 to their mix too.

It isn't your typical shooter, but Alien Swarm is very high up there wit the best co-op gaming experiences I ever had in my life. And it's different.

Pick up Hidden & Dangerous 2 and its Expansion. Very important that you get the expansion because co-op was dropped from the initial game and brought back in with the expansion.

The game is several years old but it still stands up to any of the current gen WWII games.

My favorite co-op shooters are Rogue Spear (and Raven Shield), Serious Sam and SS:TSE, and AvP. System Shock 2 is a fantastic game as well - it will cover you on both the FPS and RPG front.

I second Swat 4 for co-op play. Lots of fun, particularly using the non-lethal weapons.

I don't think Left 4 Dead will be out until the end of summer, like September-ish.

I'll second Serious Sam games. If you are looking for a straightforward FPS, I think you will have fun with the series. I used to play this on Lan parties and had a blast! It's fast paced and getting to kill demons (and sometimes gargantuan ones!) with a shotgun never gets old to me.

Serious Sam series is brilliant, totally worth playing in coop. Also get your hands on System Shock 2, which is awesome in coop.

Holy... ! ...I didn't know that.

I always enjoyed playing the CO-OP missions on Operation flashpoint.... fun times...

A lot of people don't know because the game shipped without Co-Op support and that was added as an official patch later on. I wonder if they will do the same thing for Bioshock. That would be awesome!

SS2 co-op was always incredibly glitchy for me. Never got it to work reliably myself. BioShock co-op would be AWESOM-O.

Man, it sucks that the best Co Op games for the PC are like 5 years old.

If you asked me, they're 10 years old - my best PC co-op experience was with Duke Nuke'm.

It's sad that we haven't gotten much besides Serious Sam or System Shock =P

I was thinking the same thing, Mex. Thanks for trying guys

Serious Sam 2 is pretty recent. Another recent game with pretty good co-op is GRAW. GRAW 2 won't be out on PC for a while.
