Two DS Lite questions

Good morning,

Is there any reason to buy a Nintendo DS instead of a DS Lite?

Are there any accessories that I need to buy to round out my DS Lite experience?

Thank you.

IMO - unless you get it for like $10-30, no. It's bulkier, less elegant. The Lite, on the other hand, has a notably better screen, weighs less and its battery lasts longer.

Most of the accessories you'll find now are designed solely for the DS Lite, so it's more advantageous to get the Lite if you're a big accesso-freak.

Masochism.

Other than that, no.

Some people seem to prefer the "bigger" DS Phat because the lite is just "too small" for them to hold comfortably. But other that that, the Phat is inferior to the Lite in every conceivable way.

Well, I'll take that back-- GBA carts stick out of the bottom of the Lite, and fit perfectly fluch with the Phat. If you're really bothered by aesthetics, it might be a reason to go for the Phat.

The visual experience alone recommends the Lite.

I prefer the Phat, personally. It's much much more comfortable to me. The backlight is worse and it's less portable, but it's built like a tank and it's much more comfortable to play D-Pad games on it, IMHO. So I would think about things like how you're going to use it (the GBA slot is a good example, being able to pack around just the system with two games in it is pretty cool) and cost as well as how pretty the screen is.

Granted the screen is MUCH MUCH better. A lot better. But if you want to play Castlevania, Mario Kart, etc. I personally would at least try the Phat out. Worst comes to worse you can always upgrade when the inevitable next refresh of the DS happens (which they are no doubt working on instead of working on making new games).

As for accessories, the only ones I've found to be of use so far are game cases. Very handy for travelling without worrying about banging up the cards.

Try out the included stylus but if you find it too small you can get an extendable stylus that is easier to hold.

Getting set-up to play Puzzle Quest, eh Alien:>) It is fun! (but I'm just playing the demo on the PC).

You know, I'm actually using my old GBA carrying case. I tried to find a picture of it online, but found diddly poop, so I'll just post one I took myself:
