Iran 'seizes' 15 British Marines

Fifteen British Royal Marines on patrol in the Persian Gulf have been "seized" by the Iranian navy, the British Ministry of Defense said.

The personnel from the HMS Cornwall frigate were surrounded by Iranian navy vessels after completing a routine inspection of a merchant ship, the ministry said in a statement.

They were then escorted by Iranian vessels into Iranian waters, it said.

Well, this can't end well.

I just want to know... Did the Iranian guy that gave the order say, "Seize them!"?

This has happened before and ended well.

But it seems like these marines didn't see Frank Miller's 300. Because when the Persians come to get you, you're supposed to yell "SPAARTAAAAANS!" and then perish in a bloody and heroic melee.

Obviously, when something is "seized" at sea it's because it's contraband.

They'll check the marines thoroughly for tax stamps, then let them go.

I had a friend who had to fly out of a ME country with a US military team on a C-130 at the start of a war. The plane was allowed to land in Saudi Arabia to refuel (obviously it could not fly across Israel), but the Saudis were really pissed at the US for supporting Israel. The guys waited for hours in the hot plane while the Saudis debated their fate with the US Ambassador there.

Finally, they decided that they'd let them go after processing them in and out of the country, all on the tarmac outside the plane in the 120 degree sun. What is this? You have not had your shots, gentlemen!

They all received *every* required shot, one after the other, in the heat. That took hours. Then they finally were allowed to leave.
