I am just now getting into the research that preceeds DS Homebrew, and am looking for people who might know something about it.
FYI: This is not a request for ROMs or any of that. I have more commercial DS games than I will ever finish playing. I am looking for original games and applications, and resources into how to develop them.
Also any information on the Nintendo SDK and how to get it, or look into pricing? I know the Wii SDK is a cool 2,000, so I figure the DS SDK is pretty approachable as well.
Thanks in advance!
I'm waiting on delivery of my R4 DS, but there seems to be a lot of good stuff out there. The DS-X team annuonced today an all in one flash card kit. http://www.divineo.cn/cgi-bin/div-cn...
For SDK check out http://www.devkitpro.org/ http://www.gbadev.org/ http://www.dsdev.org/ http://www.drunkencoders.com/
The M3 is a rebadged R4. They are identical hardware wise and the devteams/manufacturer are the same. I haven't looked at the official SDK as I have no coding talents, I just happen to know about those sites.

I hadn't been following this, but now I am moments away from buying an r4 as well.
What is Warcraft III Tower Defense?

O_O
This ZX Spectrum emulator is AWESOME. I always knew the DS would be the _perfect_ emulation platform for the Spectrum, because it has 1:1 identical screen resolution.
What always turned me off DS Homebrew is the uber-complex instructions, the vast amount of cryptic brands and compatibility issues, and how easy it would be to buy the wrong hardware.
All I really need is the ability to run this Spectrum emulator and cram as many ROMs on the cart as I possibly can. Garrr....
EDIT: It just occurred to me that the GBA port of ELiTE was crippled due to resolution resizing. This leaves the Spectrum version of the game to be the only authentic ELiTE available on DS. Taking up almost all available Spectrum memory, that game was truly a programming feat.
Lets not forget DSLinux.
Shiho, it's drag the files onto a MicroSD card and drop. It just works.

VERY STEALTH EDIT: I'm going to order the all-in-one R4DS thing you linked to and hope for the best.
I never used that one as I will be recieving my R4 soon.
No one wants to tell me about this Warcraft 3 thing? necro, you're just gonna ogle me?
I had never heard of the R4 until this thread. Recently I ordered an EZ-Flash V, and I'm just opening it now.

Basically, Tower Defense maps are a special breed of custom maps where each player is given a single peon/peasant and gets to build towers to try to defend oncoming waves of NPCs. It's all about Defense, there's usually no offense of any kind. You get gold as you kill the oncoming waves and you can use that to repair your towers and build new ones of various types.
Yeah so its not really Warcraft, its just an imitation of a mod (and that indie Russian game like it) that greatly simplifies the gameplay of the game. Bleh.
I know, I know, but I figured that anyone who could tell me what it is here would also include their personal impression of the thing, which counts for a lot with me. This has now come true!
My R4 just came in the mail. Yay!
More homebrew for you.

Edwin, you get any homebrew to run on the R4 ? According to an Internet guide, its primarily for warezing NDS games, and its incompatible with (stealth edit) a lot of homebrew.
EDIT: Yep, DSpec, the only reason why I bought the R4, fails to recognize the filesystem and the type of the media device. Yay for not doing research. Blah, I'll look for new drivers or whatnot and hope for the best...
EDIT2: Driver search failed. DLDI patching failed. It appears I am now entirely at the mercy of the author of DSpec.
I got moonshell working for playing music, videos, and viewing pictures.. Haven't had time to do anything with it since I'm in the middle of midterms.
Most of the homebrew works on the R4 so I don't know where you got that impression from.
