12 awesome games in 2010

I thought this was funny.

Hard Cell
360/PS3

Ah, who can forget the first time we directed the guy on the screen to walk across a narrow catwalk suspended over lava, only to have the guy turn to the screen and say, "Eat my f*ckmeat, muchacho! In case you didn't know, Lava is hot."

Hard Cell is a third-person game where you control an avatar that isn't particularly happy about being controlled. You can see the character and you can give him commands, but he doesn't necessarily agree with your goal.

Doing a good job of not getting your character hurt or killed will make him happier, filling your "Rapport Meter." Filling the meter makes him faster, more responsive, and overall more willing to work with you rather than against you. But lead him into dead ends, forget to take time to find food, fail to look out for his safety...

...and things get ugly.

You're working with a deep (that is, well-written) and complex character, operating from the most advanced A.I. ever to appear in a game. You'll build trust, you'll become friends.

Which you'll think is great, until the end of the game when you find out you have to sacrifice his life to win. This is an hours-long affair during which he will lie bleeding on the floor, screaming "WHY, DAVID? WHY?!?!?" over and over again at the screen. Did I mention that the guy knows your name?

So it's a game that gets harder whenever the player does poorly? Youch.

And it insults you!

Surely for PS3 only.

zing!

Did you see the whipping boy part? The game is beating the likeness of a friend or enemy, to death as far as I know, with customizable weapons. Including, in the screenshot, a dildo. Pictures of Jack Thompson shoot to the top of the "most googled" list.

World of Starcraft: This is the gaming version of the flying car. Everybody wants it, nobody wants to give it to us.

Good God, aint that the truth.

I know it's a joke article, but most of those games sound pretty cool

I thought this thread was gonna be about Duke Nukem Forever

It said 2010, not 2100. Easy mistake to make though.

I want Killchain. Slow motion death will never look better.

Nice, there's an Alien Technology tab in S.N.A.F.U.

I just preordered World War Omega.

And spent the last 4 hours of company time reading John Dies At The End. I'm only halfway through it, what a great story! Thanks for allowing me to get nothing done at work today.

I enjoyed watching Supes kick the crap out of Captain Marvel. I'd play the kick the crap out of Captain Marvel game any day.

As bad as it will be for the gamer community's view from the outside world, I would so love to play Killchain.

I'd feel horrible every second I'd be playing, but man I would have fun.

I don't care, Killchain does sound like a fantastic idea. If I could set in motion some 500 different events to finally culminate in a man being hit by a chunk of meteorite and killed, that'd be just fine. It'd be like a Rube Goldberg machine for homicidal maniacs.

That would be infinitely awesome. Too bad we have to wait 3 years for it...
