Anyone use Twitter?

OK, I signed up. Gave me an excuse to try the Twitterberry software on my Blackberry Curve.

It's respectable. Desperately lacking an easy "reply" mechanism though.

Really? Just read a post ("tweet"?) and push the BB menu key. There should be an option to REPLY.

I just don't get Twitter... as if people blogging about what they had for lunch was bad enough... now I need to read about how you're standing in line at the post office or WAITING to eat lunch.

I hear ya. Twitter makes me realize I'm on the wrong side of the generation gap and that I now have more in common with the old man yelling at people to get off his lawn than with the cool kids.

I should have known something was up when I never really "got" texting. You have a phone, they have a phone, effin' call them!

Now, where did I put my Metamucil and Depends?

I personally love Twitter a lot...and Plurk...and a dozen or so other services like this. Thankfully if you wanna update them all at once, Ping.fm works like a champ. If you wanna try it, head over to http://ping.fm/ and use the beta code "pingscompany". Enjoy!

BTW I think I've followed everyone in this thread now.

I'm back at it again. http://twitter.com/lamosca

My tech generation seems to have peaked immediately after blogging and just before MySpace/ Facebook/ whatever other web 2.0 social networking software.

I felt the peer pressure and signed up for Twitter, but I don't know if I feel confident enough to post what I'm doing all the time... something a bit egomaniacal about the whole thing

Yeah you're not the only one. I really don't understand this kind of thing at the most basic level, on either side of the equation. Why do you care what mundane thing an acquaintance of yours is doing right now? Why do you think anyone cares what you're doing right now? I'm sure part of this is my age and part of it is just my introvert personality, but this is just the latest in communication overload that I want no part of.

The way I see it, it's just an extension of the forums here, except a little less official. I could have made a thread on how I download Siren for the PSN, but I decided to just toss it up on Twitter, in case anyone else might go "Hey, that sounds like a good idea!" or "What are you crazy, why do you love J-Horror games so much!".

I didn't think Siren deserved it's own thread here because I'm not a major fan of the series, but It's neat to mention it in passing.

Dunno though, I'm still playing around with it and will see if it sticks. I think the quality of the experience is directly related to those you "follow". I haven't seen anyone talk about their bowel movements yet, it's mostly been pretty interesting stuff or goofy chatter.

My own 'tweets' fall under the boring category, mostly consistent of minor complaints that I would prefer to rant to someone about in person but can't do so for whatever reason. However, there are a lot of nifty bits of information to be found there if you follow the right folks; my introduction to Dr. Horrible came through twitter, for example.

Anyone read up on the lady who was twittering during her Gyn visit during the earthquake yesterday...lemme find the link.

The difference, to me, is whether you want to interrupt someone or not.

Phone calls are for "hey, I need your input right now"; SMSes are for "hey, here's this interesting thing that does not necessarily need to be acted upon immediately."

Which is how I use IM as well. You can have conversations on it, but it's based on opportunity. I IM people when I have to tell them something, but I don't need to get in their face and get an immediate answer.

I don't have that. Perhaps I'll go update it, again...

EDIT: Aha! Just added in 0.6.

I'm on there as ***gasp*** ChrisLTD

Reading through this woman's postings... good god. THIS is much more annoying that "poop is coming out." Updating your frigging Twitter page 10 times an hour? Who the hell in the universe cares that your vagina is "ok"?

Note to MissRFTC-- no one cares this much about you.

Maybe I should be blogging more instead.

Been at it a few months now; a fine diversion if nothing else. A surprising number of effective comedians in the 140 character format out there.

That's it, I need to find out what this newfangled twitter thing is about. It'll be a more efficient way to tell all you kids to get of my damn lawn!

http://twitter.com/aurynn This is me. 2500 updates and going strong.

I like this twitter thing.

I'm always a little surprised when you guys follow me.

So, I broke down and signed up. Seeing as the iphone has the app, I figured I'd give it a try.

Twitter is, of course, more than just mindless tweets.

(The co-worker with whom I rode makes an appearance at 1:42. Luckily for you, I do not. ;))

I'm giving it a shot. jonnypolite is the name, twitterin's the game.

I love the "related videos" on the side. "Slayer - Raining Blood", for instance.

Spunior hasn't updated in two months.
Max_Shrek hasn't updated in a month either.

Hopefully this will shame them to update. ;)

I had to figure out what email this was attached to, so I could get my password back. Oh, and I forgot if I was Sgt_Fury or MaxShrek.

I hear ya, ya whippersnapper! I'm not sure I get Twitter either. I'm certainly not in love with it. And I don't miss it when I'm offline.

I have an account that I use at work because my editor is convinced that it's a good tool for journalism. (He's not so bullish as others, who see it as The Thing That Will Replace Journalism. Yeah, OK.) Sure, I've met folks online that way, and we're having a local meetup in a couple of Saturdays from now that I might or might not go to.

But I'm thinking FriendFeed might be a more useful tool, mostly because it's easier to follow the back-and-forth. Friendfeed is set up a little like a bulletin board, where conversations are threaded (I think that's the word) in the same spot. Twitter is like sitting on a bar stool and trying to listen to five conversations at once, except the conversations are mostly about getting coffee and running errands.
