Anyone use Twitter?

@rcoyle6

I'd prefer the world moved to G+ though =)

Welcome.

@sometimesdee

Has anyone started a Public Twitter list for Goodjers? I checked a few profiles and did not see one. I'm quite surprised.

We've had several; I stopped updating mine a while ago, but I appear on a few:
https://twitter.com/#!/Tanglebonitis...

That might be a good starting point.

Ok so there are several thanks. Balaji's appears to be the most robust thus far: https://twitter.com/#!/balaji_dutt/goodjers

I unfollowed a bunch of Goodjers since I can't take US politics. I'll re-up in January. Cool?

Heh, I've been doing the same thing. Elections + Twitter = brutal

Totes. As one of the people you probably unfollowed, I can't blame you

I'll see you in five months!

I dropped out of Twitter for a while, but I picked up Quip for 99 cents yesterday and it's luring me back.

Twitter's great for politics, when you can generalize great groups of people you don't know and imply they're all evil because of a few political things you disagree with. Not sure why you guys don't like it

I think I just followed Balaji's list awhile back. I'm @andrewsexton, but I don't tweet much myself. I'm mainly a consumer with brief bursts of discussion.

140 characters is exactly the best medium in which to have complex arguments about politics. I have no idea what you people are talking about.

@datstudios

I like retweeting @ShawnElliott. You have been warned.

@jdiz1085

I try to keep my own tweets entertaining and been thinking about following more of the GWJ community. Will check out that list that Numontu linked. And believe me, I try to keep politics out of my 140 char posts about random, trvial things. Justin McElroy goofs are just so concentrated in 140 charachters!

Yay - glad to hear you are finding it useful! Also, get used to seeing your tweets popup in the list

My list isn't complete though - I started creating the list from about half-way through on this thread so it's possible I missed a few folks who had posted early in the thread. You might want to check Legion's list as well for completeness.

Yeah, I've been less and less drawn in by twitter lately. Add in their forthcoming API changes, and it's becoming something I can live without.

That's not even taking into account politics *retch*

Check this out and retweet it. Every retweet or facebook like donates 25 cents to breast cancer charities.

@TheHipGamer, here. I went on Tweet Hiatus for a long time, but am recently back into it.

As much as I enjoy following the conversations on Twitter, sometimes it's so nice to take a break. It can be too much of a time commitment at times.

@paladintom

Don't know why, but I've started trying to curate my Twitter lists again. Lot's of recommendations are from GWJers so I've started following a bunch of you all.

@captdomano

I used to keep up with Twitter a lot, but the past few months I've been going there less and less. However, all GWJ'ers can feel free to add me.

I just joined. @DMann3D

I gave in, but I figured it'd be a decent way to network and update people on my goings-ons. Which are very meager, currently.

Oh man, this is fantastic. If you've been on Twitter any amount of time, you've probably seen the people that somehow need to tell someone they're unfollowing them. Dave Lozo's got it nailed:

The Twitter Dot Com Unfollow Exit Interview

INT. THE OFFICES OF DAVE LOZO AT TWITTER DOT COM, MORNING

Sitting alone at his desk is DAVE LOZO, a handsome 35-year-old who is staring intently at his computer, trying to find a way to trim a 145-character tweet about the ending to Tower Heist. He runs his hands through his thick, lustrous blonde hair.

There is a knock at his door.

DAVE LOZO
Come in.

In walks Dave’s gorgeous secretary, HEIDI MOUNDS, along with a smallish fellow who Dave does not recognize.

HEIDI MOUNDS
Mr. Lozo, this is Go Sharks 47.

DAVE LOZO
I’m sorry?

HEIDI MOUNDS
That’s what it says here. He goes by @gosharks47. According to his file, he’s all Sharks, all the time. He’s a member of the Wolfpack and lives for Red Bull/vodkas on the weekend. And the bio ends, “GO SHARKS GO.” He said he wants to unfollow you.

DAVE LOZO
Oh, OK. Sure. Go Sharks 47, please sit down and we’ll get this exit interview going.

Heidi exits. Go Sharks 47 sits down across from Dave, wearing a Joe Thornton jersey, a Sharks hat, teal pants and holding a binder full of pictures of his favorite San Jose Sharks that he hopes to one day have autographed.

DAVE LOZO
So, Go Sharks. Or, Mr. 47? Can I call you Go Sharks? Anyway, I understand you want to end this relationship.

@GOSHARKS47
I just want you to shut the f*ck up.

DAVE LOZO
I see, I see. Perhaps you’d like to expound on that.

@GOSHARKS47
Your so f*cking stupid and I’m tired of your f*cking nonsense about Raffi Torres and the Sharks. f*ck off and die.

DAVE LOZO
Interesting. I see. Well, we here at Dave Lozo At Twitter Dot Com are always looking to improve the Twitter Dot Com experience for everyone, so what could we have done differently?

@GOSHARKS47
I wish you weren’t so f*cking stupid you f*cking retard and you shouldn’t talk sh*t because your a f*cking idiot.

DAVE LOZO
Fair enough. Let me bounce some questions off you. How long have you been following me?

@GOSHARKS47
I don’t f*cking know you douchebag. A while now. You suck.

DAVE LOZO
How come I haven’t heard any negative feedback up until you now? If you hate me so much, why are you following me?

@GOSHARKS47
I follow you because you are a stupid f*cking joke.

DAVE LOZO
Hmm. That doesn’t allow for much insight into the issues at bar here. Let me take a different tact. Do you remember that joke I made about the Leafs blowing Game 7 against the Bruins?

@GOSHARKS47
(laughing) Yeah, that was great.

DAVE LOZO
How about my zinger about the Minnesota Wild?

@GOSHARKS47
Ha. Yeah. Totally. Good stuff.

DAVE LOZO
How about that one about John Tortorella?

@GOSHARKS47
Oh sure. They were all good.

DAVE LOZO
How about my pick for the Sharks to reach the Stanley Cup Final?

@GOSHARKS47
Totally. Very smart.

DAVE LOZO
But jokes about your favorite team and the opinion Raffi Torres’ hit was worthy of suspension?

@GOSHARKS47
That was f*cking stupid you f*cking retard I hope you die. UNFOLLOW.

Go Sharks 47 gets up from his seat and storms off, dropping his binder and some loose photos of Sharks players onto the floor.

DAVE LOZO
You know I never asked you to follow me, right?

@GOSHARKS47
Your an idiot.

Go Sharks 47 gathers up the photos and storms out of the office, calling Dave names as his friends who are gathered outside wearing Sharks jerseys all high-five him. Dave smiles as he trims two characters off his Tower Heist tweet, which is sure to be retweeted upwards of three times.

I iz bak! LoLz!! @GWJ #ThreadNecro

Find me @ Marsman61

Twitter stopped supporting the old version of TweetDeck a while back, but it kept working . . . until a couple days ago. It's now dead, and I'm not hugely fond of the new client, for one simple reason--I like having the list of currently trending topics directly on-screen at all times in its own column, just because it helps me see if there's anything interesting and/or funny I should look at. The new TweetDeck has the option to add a column for a specific trend but not trends in general, which is what I'm looking for. Any suggestions on a Windows-based client that does that? I don't particularly want to leave a tab open for it, I like having a separate client.

I just created a new account. Not exactly a personal account, but the account for an "in-character" blog I've made about food that I will officially launch on Monday. Feel free to go ahead and follow me up now, though, and I will feed you articles as they release. Then we can share stories about horrible food.

I've just had the opposite. My following count went down by one, and I have no idea whether:

1. Someone's account closed
2. Someone blocked me (I haven't said anything that seems likely to cause this recently, if ever)
3. The count was wrong and got corrected in a bug fix (I've noticed sometimes the number I have listed as followers is incorrect)
4. Twitter randomly removed an account from my follows (I've heard several other people complain about this happening)

It's driving me a little crazy. It's hard to have a list of 82 things, lose one and try to work out what's missing. Looking at your feed can only remind you of the 81 wrong answers.

So I did the start over thing on Twitter (long story), Re-following who I can remember and will check for active folks in the thread. Account name is avastyebilgerat.
