Fallout 3 meets xbox 360?

Well the deserts of California and Nevada sure made for an ideal "post-apocalyptic" setting.

For an east coast setting, I guess I'd expect more urban ruin locales and re-growing forests. Something much less Mad Max than the ruins of Bakersfield were.

So something kind of more like Oblivion, then.

We New Jerseyans would survive the Apocalypse you know. Thats why we keep all this pollution around, makes our constitutions stronger.

Kind of like cockroaches?

I thought it was cool having the original games set in California because I live here, and my brain could therefore provide extra context. As such, I am a bit sad to hear that Fallout 3 might not be set here again, but at the same time those of you who do live on the east coast might be in for quite a treat.

When Fallout 3 was being developed by Black Isle it was set in Colorado. I like the idea of taking a look at a different area of the Fallout universe.

Huh, I guess we need more games set in Texas, then.

You're probably all getting tired of hearing me say how Irongut is hysterical, so I'll just quote this and not actually come right out and say it.

So east coast, eh? That should be interesting, and it'll be neat to see how they handle the south eastern part. You can't have to many inbreeding, and Deliverance jokes.

The very latest from our good friends at NMA. Pete Hines sounds like he needs a vacation. This is the third time I've heard about the east coast as a setting and I'm beginning to believe it. Impressions?

The Fallout PnP RPG I'm running takes place on the east coast. So no big deal to me.

The thing is, everywhere was transformed into a desert after the war. We're told in Fallout 2 that the entire midwest had turned into a radioactive dustbowl. I don't see why the east coast needs to be much different from the west coast.

Wasn't Fallout Tactics set in the midwest? I remember making a lot of jokes about Gary to myself.

Chicago to be specific.

Indeed. I can now drive through Newark and not throw up from the smell of the refineries.

I used to drive this route every day, up the NJ Turnpike, passed the airport, than west on 78 (iirc) to Parsippany. I really feel that that stretch of the road deserves ugliest public part of the US (i say public to exclude, say, landfills.) The smell from the refineries can be overwhelming and awful on a hot day.

Though contrary to popular belief, there are actually nice parts of Jersey. I was in Somerset, New & North Brunswick, and Hoboken before I ended up in DC. I like it here better.

*Back on topic*
I am excited about the idea of seeing a different part of the country, and the aftereffects of a nuclear holocaust. It would be neat to see forests regrowing and starting to infringe on old decrepit cities, similar to pictures Ive seen of the Chernobyl area (yeah, playing Stalker right now).

There are missions in Preoria, Springfield, St. Louis, Kansas City, among others. There were all pretty desolate.

Then again, no one considers FO:T to be canon.

Preoria, eh? Does that come just before Peoria?

No, it comes just before your MOM!

Seriously, that's apparently how they spelled it in the game, according to all the online guides and walkthroughs. I just copied the names from the mission list and didn't notice the error.

Never had I been so excited to make it to Peoria.

Never.

I thought Texas was turned into the radioactive dustbowl? I don't remember anywhere else being discussed.

Texas, midwest, same thing. I was quoting from memory, I may have gotten the area wrong after all.

Good shot. I remember Cassidy talking about travelling to Texas and nothing being there. That could have been Tycho from the original Fallout.

Also, what the hell is Vic doing there? He's almost as useless as Myron in battle.

Drat... I'm going to OD on RPGs here this week with Oblivion, but I may need a breather, so I dare to ask...

What mod(s) should I get to play Fallout 2 through? Give me your three favorite non-weapon skills as well.

I had mad charisma that game, so why not make use of it. Not enough to keep both Vic and the cyberdog though.

I"m playing through Fallout 2 as we speak, Wandy - make sure you patch before you start, because the patched version won't take old games.

The only mods I've run (or am even aware of, really) are the no-CD hack, and I have occasionally used a character editor (to small effects, like removing the Bloody Mess trait or changing my third Tag skill from one I don't use to one I will).

Yeah, I've never run a mod in the Fallout games. The character editor is called Falche (or Falche2 for Fallout 2).

I've fired up Fallout and will move on to Fallout 2 after I finish it. Beat both games a long time ago, but it's been so long that they're both pretty fresh.
