2 cool games I saw at CES (Crysis, World in Conflict)
I had to drop some stuff off at my work booth at CES today and then took a meander around. Right across the way was the MS booth with all their products. One of the cool things they had was a Microsoft game section with tons of different Games running on Vista, with nice big flat panels for displays. I think the flat panels were all 24" Dell wide screens. Very Sexy.
Got to have some hands on With http://www.crysisgame.com/. They had a 8800 under the hood and the game looked great. The hall was so noisy that I couldn't get a feel for the in game sounds so I have no idea how the weapons "feel". I did play with the enhancements system.
Modded the gun with different Sniper scopes also added a silencer. Silencer was cool because the enemies reacted to sound like an angry pile of ants.
Modding the suit speed gave a super fast sprint. Strength was very cool because it let me jump on top of the buildings. Strength also let me punch through the roof and/or walls. One time as I was punching out the walls and then the roof fell on me.
Killed enough baddies that they called in reinforcements. Promptly took care of them and hijacked their truck to use the .50cal on an incoming chopper. Also got to mow down some trees with the .50cal
Shot out the tires on a jeep. Moved on to the windows. Found the spare gas tank and decided it needed to vent. Shooting the gas tank started a fire, which spread to the whole jeep which then exploded. Yes, pretty good stuff.
Then I saw Supreme Commander was running a build that looked much smoother and refined from the Beta I last played. It was single player story mode too. I was excited to get some hands on with it until I saw its Neighbor.
And No, I am not a plant. But if someone wants to pay me I will take the $$
http://www.worldinconflict.com/ I somehow had not heard about this gem. This one is being made by the team that gave us Ground Control and Ground Control 2. So this is a RTS with no base building or resource harvesting just troop management. This one was demoed for me, ie no hands on. This one was beautiful. The detail from the Zoomed out to the Zoomed in was great. The Tactical Nuke was nice. Air Drops of reinforcements come in on what looks like C130 Cargo planes that are viewable in the horizon and can be followed in to their drop point. Full use of terrain and buildings makes me happy. They also implement a control point system similar to BF2 which should be fun for multi-play. The demo man also let me know that Multi-player was a big goal for them and has been in mind since they started.
So I left MS for an appointment I had to get to, but I must say both these games look great and seemed fun. I like fun games.
