Cable substitute?

I really don't like Comcast. In fact, I really don't like cable in general. They're just so consumer unfriendly.

So, I'm considering other options. One thing that has me curious is the new Apple toy. My understanding (which could be horribly wrong) is that I could by TV episodes from iTunes, then watch them on my TV. Considering that my wife watches two series, and I watch none, it seems like that could be a good deal.

Sure, I'd miss out on Bloomberg TV in the morning, and weekend sports, but I can live with that. I can always go to the gym for that stuff.

Any opinions on this stuff?

That's exactly what Apple TV does and if that's your use case, you'll probably enjoy it quite a bit.

Another alternate would be Satellite TV ...

Or just stay one season behind and buy whatever series you want on DVD.

Or the local library, I have friends that do this.

The new sling box will also media/time shift as well I believe.

You might try www.joost.com

Oh god I never even thought of the library.

Are you a current beta tester? If so, any chance you could hook somebody up with an invitation?

Oh yeah, meant to mention - have you thought of just going over-the-air (OTA)? You can get good OTA antennas for less than $200 that will let you receive for free pretty good SD and HD content from all the major networks that broadcast in your area (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, UPN/WB/whatever). Chances are most of the shows you watch are on those networks anyway.
