Strangely, the game actually was pretty well recieved at E3 (if my memory serves me well), in sharp contrast to the Sonic games for the other systems.
See, that was just my point, there hasn't been a good Sonic game since Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast, and there hasn't been a great one since the 2D Sonic games on the Genesis. It would be nice to see Sonic rise above the mediocrity he has come to know.
I'm not even sure about Sonic Adventure being good. I remember being impressed with the first stage, with the whale and running on the island, but then it fell into the "walk over here" and "walk over there".

Well, I think it was more the rush of the Dreamcast, then maybe Sonic Adventure being good. But, it has been the best since it's release, that's for sure.
Yeah, but even at $16 is it worth buying?

This one seems to be more like a 2D Sonic games in 3D.
You are almost on rail except you can move right or left to avoid obstacle.
I liked Sonic Adventure. It was fun to see the game be taken off rails. I'm not sure it holds up over time, though.
