PUPPIES

Hahaha yeah, loving the puppy content here - Billie's a cutie! Any ideas of the breed mix?

Mom is a pointer, they don’t know about the dad. Mom was brought to the shelter when pregnant so the litter was there and being cared for since birth.

I would highly recommend Embark. It's not the cheapest but you get great results like these.

This is of my dog Thor. We got him when my wife went to the store to get treats for my other two dogs. Someone had dropped off two dogs at the store and said she found them on the side of the road. When my wife got up to the counter, they asked if she wanted a dog. She picked up Thor, he nuzzled in her neck, and she said "Yup!". Since we didn't know anything about him we got the test done to find out his mix and if he was prone to anything. I can send a referral like if any of you want, it gets you $40 off. However, I believe better deals can be found online.

Here is Thor when we first got him. He was 13 pounds. This was before we were sure we were keeping him. You can even see the tag on the leash my wife bought before bringing him home.

Here he is today. Embark said he would get to 57 pounds. We estimate he was born May 2020 (so 2 yrs old) and he's 45 lbs. I think he's done growing

I'm in the middle of a move and have copious stuff to get rid of, some of which went to a pet shelter yesterday, and they had puppies in a pen in the lobby. Very hard not to just grab one while I was there.

Not tired at all

Under the sofa is my cat's favorite hiding place.

I wasn’t sure where to post this but the crazy dog lady in the neighborhood revealed something that struck my outrage nerve and I don’t know if I need to mind my own fucking business or if there is something more expected of me.

Until last week, she had three juvenile labradoodles. They aren’t aggressive but they do make a lot of noise and she isn’t always the best about picking up after them. We live in a townhouse row and there is a unit between ours so I don’t really hear the barking but the two adjacent neighbors do and complain constantly.

Yesterday morning, she mentioned that she went to her Amish breeder in Pennsylvania to get another puppy only to find out that they were retiring the brood bitch of four years (four litters). More troubling is that they intended to simply surrender her to a kill shelter because she was no longer profitable.

The whole concept of puppy mills makes me ill. What if anything should I do?

Report the breeder to the Pennsylvania SPCA?

I would sponsor the dog at the shelter first. Then I would look into the practices of the breeder, maybe get a reporter involved. This sounds like so many stories I've heard over the years of my involvement with rescue.

Five week update. Billie has grown and is now over 12 pounds (she was 8-8.5 pounds when I got her). She's a good girl (when teething isn't driving her mad) and it's been a wild and worthwhile ride for both of us. Also, I am really looking forward to when puppy training classes start in a couple weeks.

Cats are weird.

It takes Edna about 2.4 seconds to jump into any empty box or basket we sit down so I tested her with a 2D box and she even got in it.
