Post a picture of your pet!

Truly sorry to read about sweet Monster. Sounds like he lived a wonderful life, and made yours wonderful as well.

As an aside, one of my cats is nicknamed "Monster," or usually "Mon" for short.

So sorry for your loss.

Glad Monster had so many years being loved by awesome humans like you and Kannon.

New pets don't make the hurt of losing your babies any easier. But we've taken a lot of joy and comfort out of getting to know the personalities of Sydney and Hamilton.

I love them.

Thanks. Hopefully no one thinks I'm being insensitive. I was just moved to post pictures of our new cats because I was reminded that I never posted pictures of Sunny, Opus and Katie until they had passed. That was the first time I posted pictures of them here. So I wanted to remedy that by posting pictures of Hamilton and Sydney.

I certainly don't feel that way, as somebody who has recently posted with cat health issues. I'd rather see happy, healthy cats than just dwell on how much I'm going to miss mine.

You're all good.

I need to post some kitty pics. We have 4(5*) mostly healthy little girls and one (Violet) who is 18+ who we know won't be with us too much longer. I don't want to wait until we lose Violet to share pics so I am going to get motivated to do it soon.

* We have my nephew's cat, but he can't have it anymore so we have to indoctrinate it into our house or rehome it. She's a sweetie but doesn't get along with 4 of our 5.

Okay. Thanks.

Definitely post them. I've tried to spend less time stressing about news lately and I find myself literally gravitating to pictures of pets, etc. I've become a cliche.

Random aside. When our cats passed a couple of years ago they were all 17. We got them long before smartphones and rarely had any pictures of them when they were young.

We feel really lucky that with Hamilton and Sydney we have so many pictures of them as kittens.

Yeah this thread should be a place of celebration as much as possible. Even when bad things happen it's a reminder to cherish the good times.

Pretty much exactly that.

While I'm looking through old photos...

Sydney as a kitten.

Sydney literally sleeps right against my face every night while I watch TV. It's one of the most endearing things and something I've never seen a cat do.

That's so adorable <3

I love when they cuddle right up to your face.

My nephew's cat, Twizzler, does the same, except flipped with her face away. Yours is cuter.

My wife sleeps with 2 pillows - one for her head and one right above it. Violet, the old kitty, sleeps with her body on the second pillow and her head on my wife's head. I have no idea how either of them deal with that but it's been going on since Violet was big enough to do it.

That's so adorable. Katie (one of the kitties we lost in 2017) used to sleep on the pillow above my wife's head. But not on it. I have no idea how someone could sleep that way either. She slept above my wife's head like a hat. lol.

Cats are the best.

One of my cats will hang out on the bed staring at us awkwardly until either my wife or I scoot our pillow to the side so that he can sleep in the space between the pillows.

That is adorable. I wish my cat would do that. Ours just loves sleeping on my wife's pillows.

Hobbes does the face thing in the bed, between my wife and I. Every night. It's awesome.

Sydney is the first cat we’ve ever had do that. Hamilton only sits on our laps and not every day at that.

The cutest thing is that when Sydney falls asleep like that her breathing turns into basically a light snore. It’s so adorable.

Same boat for our Suki and Spackle - almost. I took a couple pics of them at kittens on my Palm Treo and I saved them so I wouldn't lose them when I got rid of the phone. I worked from home at the time so they were all over me while I tried to work. They would eventually tire out and one liked to sleep with her head on my keyboard and the other would sleep with her head on my hand - all while I was trying to code. Not helpful. Here's 4 pics where they weren't sleeping on me. Sometimes, they liked to sleep in my shoes.

I think these cute little things are around 12 yrs old, now. We lost one of our cats to a neighbor (long story) and after a couple months decided we were ready to get another. But, we can't seem to ever get just one - we always end up getting a pair. Suki and Spackle are litter sisters.

Holy Moses they’re adorable. I wish we would have been able to get siblings this time around. They’re so cute together.

Our Opus and Sunny were siblings, in spite of what their coloring suggests. Unfortunately the youngest picture we have of them together is like 3 or 4 years old.

I've never had a kitten, always 1 to 2 year old cats. So cute!

Everybody's kitties are delightful, and my heart goes out to those who have crossed or are nearing the rainbow bridge.

Going to add to the parade by introducing the thread to Ehlonna! We call her Ellie. She's the most determined lap cat I've ever met and it's wonderful. She displaces laptops and contorts herself onto whatever lap space is available. Here she is snuggled in last night:

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/O2WSChf.jpg)

She also doesn't often do boxes, but she was waiting for the moment I pulled the last item out of this one and leapt right in:

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/FlrBX7e.jpg)

We were not originally planning on getting a cat - Mr. Dragon is allergic. Some of you may have seen this in the love thread, but we found her this past August while out on a walk. She was super friendly, but only skin and bones. It took an hour to coax and carry her the mile back home, and our plan to keep her in the bathroom didn't make it five minutes. She promptly took over the apartment (though we still don't let her in the bedroom, much to her chagrin). Shelter was full, so she became ours and Mr. Dragon stocked up on allergy meds. Watching him adapt to having a cat around has been adorable.

Here's a pic from the first night we found her, for contrast (spoilered for sadness). Vet put her at 1-2 years old and she weighed only 4.1 lbs. She's up to just under 9 now! (And I may have gotten indignant at the vet receptionist calling her "chubby"...)

This is the best. Reminds me that I miss getting to see you at random GWJ meetups in Portland! So little time these days...

This is Suki and Spackle chillin' with Kit back in 2012.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/i7w2hIH.jpg)

All of our cats end up being Kit's cats. Kit is a napper and a teacher. So, every day when she gets home from work, she naps. There's nothing our cats like better than a nap except having a good nap partner. They love napping with her.

Between the naps and her being around a lot more in the summer than I, they all tend to make themselves Kit's cats. The upside of this for me is when we go to bed, I get half of the king bed and Kit and 3-5 cats get the other half. It's not fair, but I don't complain...

-BEP

Wow, that Ellie looks just like Spackle when she's lap cuddling. What a cutie.

The box thing - it's amazing how a cat just can not leave a box alone. We do have an issue that one of our cats, Kira, likes to "eat" cardboard boxes. Not really eat them, but she tears them apart, one bite at a time.

-BEP

So, there is one exception to the "all cats become Kit's cats" rule - Kira. Kira and Kaylee are our youngest. They aren't sisters but we got them about the same time. When we moved to our new place in 2012, we lost Patches. She was 19 and had lived a wonderfully fulfilling life. After a while, we decided we were ready for another kitty and that's how we got Kaylee. The problem was Kaylee REALLY wanted to play with Violet, Suki, and Spackle. All. The. Time. She drove them all bananas.

One of Kit's teacher friends' daughter had a small cat and she also had a newborn baby. The daughter and baby moved back in with mom and they couldn't keep the cat. Everyone knows that Kit is a cat person so they called her.

We went over to see this cat and of course, we couldn't leave without her. Kaylee needed a play friend and they were about the same age ( 6 months? ) so it worked out great.

But, for some reason, Kira is my cat. She follows me around all time, usually trying to lead me and anticipate where I'm going. The garage is her domain. I used to spend a lot of time out there doing glass work and whatever else I was working on at the time and she was ALWAYS there with me, usually purring. She purrs with me, but not with Kit. She affectionate towards Kit, but she very rarely purrs with her.

Right now, she's in the spot she's always in when I'm in my office - in her own personal cat bed by me. I guess I should take a pic...

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/JZWVO29.jpg)

And then I woke her up by touching her back foot which she HATES. She was not amused.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/TzmGOFJ.jpg)

She usually has her head hanging off trying to put it on my arm or mouse or has her paw extended on my arm or keyboard. She is behaving tonight.

She's gray with a white tip on her tail, a white spot on her upper chest and a white heart on her belly.

This is her in one of her (unfortunate) favorite spots. On the breakfast nook table where we eat.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/9AfSnBg.jpg)

That's Kaylee on the chair.

-BEP

I'm thread-hogging, but never fear! I'm almost done. If I don't post these now, I'll never get around to doing it.

These are the "besties". Kaylee on the left curling up with Suki. Kaylee has forced herself onto Suki to be her best friend. Anytime Suki is in the bedroom napping, Kaylee has to lie down with her and be touching her. The other cats wouldn't put up with it, but Suki is an angel in a cat's body. She's the sweetest danged cat and allows Kaylee to be her bestie.
