2006 College Football Pick'em

Well, Notre Dame's schedule is very soft for the rest of the year, save the drubbing they will surely receive at the hand's of USC in the Coliseum. So, I would expect that with two losses, Notre Dame will likely be in a major bowl game again. Heck, they lost two regular season games last year and still got into a BCS bowl game.

Err, well I would not be shocked if they lose again this weekend.

How bout the sunshine state outside of Gainsville? I think FSU can still make some noise, but the "U" should start booking hotels in Shreveport.

If the Dawgs/Gators/Tigers-Wareagles go undefeated this year and aren't in the title game this year the SEC should leave the BCS. Yes SC is for real but the rest of the Pac-10 is not and you can't convince me that the Trojans could automatically survive a SEC schedule.

Well the ND/MSU game lived up to both program's singatures, the Irish and their luck, and the Spartains and their ability to choke, fitting that the game was a push.

I generally can't stand Lou Holtz, but he is right on the money when he says that a coach never knows which team is going to show up every week. Lots of the top teams appeard to have slept walked through the weekend. Nobody was more guilty of it than my Dawgs, who were darn lucky to escape with a win.

You can never put to much weight into score comparisons, but LSU certainly wooped Arizona with more ease than the Trojans.

Not a lot of stellar matchups this coming weekend, with Ohio St vs Iowa being the top draw, always good to watch SEC football on Thursdays though, will be intersting to see if the 'ol ball coach has improved his chickens any.

I've never seen Joe Pa run that fast before in my life. If I was about to upchuck last night's supper on the sidelines, I'd probably be highstepping all the way to the rest room.

Iowa City is pretty tuned up for the OSU game this weekend. It will be only the second night game in Kinnick Stadium history, and only the 4th time a number one team has played here. Tickets are going for anywhere from $150 to $2000 per.

I love my Hawkeyes, but OSU looks pretty tough this year and Iowa's looked good enough to barely beat average teams. Anything can happen though, especially on a Saturday night (wouldn't you say so, Michigan State?).

Did he look up from the grass at all during the game?

On the bright side, PSU looked just as I expected them to against the #1 team. They held in, but just couldn't break anything on offense, and eventually let one or two slip to seal the game. I am amazed that they didn't once try to throw it downfield though. That's just about the only reason we won last year, was speedy receivers down the sidelines.

Oh, and apparently I'm great at picking college games. Who knew?

Well, I don't know if you caught the game, but it certainly wasn't as close as the score. Arizona had -19 yards on the ground and about 150 through the air. SC lost a lot of great players on offense, but they just aren't going to need score as many points this year as last year. They have a complete squad on D, with probably the fastest, most talented linebacker squad in the country.

That said, I agree with the point you made earlier about SC's schedule. If they played in the SEC they would not go undefeated this year, nor would they have last year. But, they are playing the schedule they have, and with that defense. That said, they have their three toughest games in consecutive weeks with #14 Oregon follewed by #20 Cal and #12 ND. Then, the next week they play their local rival UCLA which usually manages to be a tough game.

Notre Dame is and will always be the most overrated team in college football. They play a perrenially weak schedule and always have buffers between their big games. But, that is part of the landscape of college ball.

I just checked this weeks picks to see if any of the lines had moved, and lo and behold all of my picks were gone. I think I picked the first time on Wednesday, so if you picked earlier in the week you might check and see if they are still picked.

I also haven't received an e-mail from Yahoo in a couple of weeks, their Fantasy supports seems to be going downhill.

Maybe that's their way of trying to even out the scores.

How can Arizona be the favorite at -1.5?

Rocky Stop!

Ugh, what a ugly second half for my Dawgs.

Our young secondary was exposed, but the turnovers and the constant short field UT had doomed Georgia.

Hopefully Ainge will go pro after this year.

Yikes Auburn goes down!

Noone's mentioned the hilarity that was Miami v. FIU? The flying tackles? The swinging helmets? The guy on crutches going after people? Lamar Thomas actling like a total chode on-air?

If you ain't seen it, and i'd be stunned if you haven't, here you go.. With Lamar's awesome commentary.

Lamar Thomas is 500 ways of awesome, in an entertaining sense. You don't often see that kind of frank honesty on the air. I know that everybody has to talk about how horrible fights are for the game, and that it's disgraceful and blah, blah, blah, but I have a secret:

I enjoy watching bench-clearing brawls, in much the same way that I am thrilled by car wrecks in racing. I don't want anybody to get hurt for sure, but sorry, if it makes me go "HOLY sh*t!" when it happens, then I'm loving it. I think everybody else does too. Even the announcers that express their faux-disdain for it.
