GWJ Chromehounds

Good post on Quarter to Three with great n00b information.

He says Tarakia is done and there are some seriously disadvantages to joining a defeated faction (in the short run).

Hmm, I wasn't too worried until I read this line:

It turns out you can't buy new parts when your faction is conquered. So I switched us over to the Republic of Morskoj, which is basically the heavily armored slow Russians.

Yikes!

What do you guys all think? I'm still game for Tarakia, but if the prevaling sentiment is otherwise, perhaps we should save our underdog desires for when we are better outfitted for war?

Surely there's a pending reset?

It resets every 2 months I've heard. Would be nice if they gave some encouragement to join the underdog...

Anyway, if we're not joining Tarakia I'm all for Morskoj. Perhaps we should save siding with the underdog for when we all have enough stocked firepower to do so.

Well, I don't think Tarakia is out of the picture just yet... they were able to take back some control over Xeres. So, there is a chance that Tarakia can prosper once more... but that just my view.

Fine, we can be the stinking commie bastards.

Seriously, though, my vote would be for Sal Kar because of their high tech, but well get around to each country eventually. It really is a shame if we don't get one free allegiance change.

I managed to get online last night but had no time to play, I chose Sal Kar then thought about changing but got the "cannot change for 2 weeks" message though it wasn't entirley clear what would happen if I proceeded.
Didn't get to play multiplayer online as I had stuff to do but I did one of the single player missions.

Aqua Guy, what was the exact error that you got? Was it "you cannot change until 2 weeks have passed" or was it "if you change, you won't be able to for another 2 weeks"? God, it's a shame that Lobster hasn't been able to get a clear answer on this issue out of the people at the official forums. Lobster, should we try again today to hound them? Because if we are going to go Morskoj to start, I really want to go spend my initial funds on Sal Kar parts.

I dunno Zero.

If only there were some sort of booklet included with the game, containing play information!

EDIT: Sarcasm increased.

6*6 be gone...!

I realize point of your post, but I would be entirely surprised if the manual contains the answer to that specific question. In any case, I've posted the question in Figgi's thread. He seems to be pretty good about answering questions in a friendly and accurate manner, so maybe I'll be able to clear the issue up there.

Maybe so, but I'll never ever ever ever ever sing a song about the Fliggi.

Oh I'll never ever ever ever ever sing a song about the Fliggi...

Wow I didn't know about the persistence nature of the online war. I think I'll give this game a shot when I can find a copy. I mean who doesn't love Mechs!

Figgi wrote:

yes, you get one free starting change. at least i was able to change right away on the first night of being online (which was the 1st of july, but i don't think they changed that). after that you have to wait the usual 2 week period.
however if you are uncertain you might want to join tarakia (they reformed their nation) and hope for their capital to be invaded again (i know for sure that i will try ), which would also give you the opportunity to change nations. then again that would be treason, so i don't know if there is a penalty for this.
btw. sticking with a choice also has it's appeal. i'd much rather play morskoj, but i wouldn't want to give up the squad i'm in for any big gun on the morskoj side (go bulldogs ).

but back at topic: i'm 100% certain that i was able to change again right away.

EDIT:

So I say we stick with our original plan. Join the nation of our choice to spend our initial funds on parts, then switch sides to Tarakia to form our squad. If this plan is still acceptable, I'll probably set up the squad tomorrow night.

I stilll think we should stick with Tarakia. The argument that we will have a rough time of it is that same argument to join the winning team in Battlefield. We must be men. Men with free access to delicious teriyaki sauce. If Tarakia is totally conquered it won't stay that way for long. And in the mean time the adversity willl strengthen us in a Nietzsche kind of way.

EDIT: I just confirmed with Futureshop that there is a copy waiting for me after work. Work is simply not going to get done for the rest of the day. No way around it.

Combat Manual that comes with pre-order is worthless! 15 pages of information that game manual covers... with exception with few missions walkthrough. Ultimately it's a sales pitch for Prima guide which displayed in the back with slogan 'You NEED this guide!'
...however, it has a nice Map mini-poster.

Sigh... 6hours to go before I get home.

-edit-

Also both manual don't have any information regarding grace period on switching sides. Interesting thing that noted in the manual is that if you fight against AI you get less reward and merit.

This game better be in a store near me today.

We need a squad motto.

I propose the following:

"Driver Carries NO Cash"

"Last In, First Out"

"You Buy, We Fly"

"3rdG Cav: Turning your crash into Cash"

"Our Day Begins When Yours Ends"

Discuss.

"DEFEND THE SAUCE"

At the very least I'm going to name a mech "Chicken Tarakian"

I vote for "Goodjer isn't as gay as it sounds".

Because while it's OK within the sealed bubble of GWJ, labeling ourselves "Goodjers" outside of GWJ just will make us sound like a bunch of fairies.

Well, we could did into our Jennifer Government past and call ourselves the "3rd Stanistan Cavalry"

"Goodjers Never Say Die"

labeling ourselves "Goodjers" outside of GWJ just will make us sound like a bunch of fairies.

Agreed. There was another thread where "Goodjers" was striken from the GWJ lexicon for this very reason.

"Die with the Best"
/Intereo Per Optimus (bad catholic latin)

LiquidMantis wrote:

Die.

Theory disproven.

Then maybe we should change to the 3rd Stanistan Cav.

Or maybe our motto should simply be, "We're Not Faggots."

Well, damn. (It was a Goonies quote).

Well, if they allow enough characters, I would love to make it the "3rd Goodjistan Cav" (or the "3rd Goodjistani Mechanized Cavalvy"). Goodjistani sounds like we are from an exotic warlike nation, AND it contains both the words "goodjer" and "stan." However, signs point to there being a 15 character limit on squad names, so "3rd Goodjer Cav" may be all that will fit. We'll see this evening, though.

If that fits but "3rd Goodjistan Cav" doesn't, we could go with that.

"Fat Kids Love Pie"
or
"Swampy Stole My Bike"

I like that better then Goodjer myself.

Or one from WoW

So I petitioned to the website overlords to add Chromehounds to the games list, as soon as I get a reply, I'll post an event and we can start moving some details to that post. Basically, this is what I have gathered from our posts so far:

Chromehounds night: Mondays.

Squad: 3rd Goodjer Cav

Nation: Join whatever you want at first to buy parts, with the main country decided on later.

*Also, while I like the idea of posting reviews and impressions in this thread, I think casually interested gamers won't be able to find the reviews after wading through 23 pages. Can you update your first post LobMob to include a link to our first review when it is posted?

Our squad emblem:
