HSF rec. for asus P4P800 SE - socket 478

The hsf on this one is dying

Any reccomendations for a cost effective efficient hsf replacement ?

No overclocking, this is the 2nd machine. Plays wow and does photoshop stuff.

I see passive cooling on that board.....are you talking about the hsf for the processor?

If so check this thread out

Let me summarize for you; Get one of the Zelman's. Super quiet and very efficient.

Option Link

EDIT: One side note; check your mobo for compatibility. A buddy of mine bought one of these and a transitor from the mobo blocked the HSF assembly.

It looks like it is mounted to the bracket that sits on the back of the motherboard, does that sound correct ?

yeah some are like that...may have to remove the mobo to get at it.

alternatively you could just replace the fan....a lot easier, and you would still get better airflow/quiter operation than you do now

Ordered.

I have one of the Zalmans too. It should work great for you!

I have this motherboard, so I may pick one up. My current HSF is insanely loud.

Well i got the zalman from newegg in one day even though it was three day delievery rates. Installed the thing, it clears all parts around it on the motherboard. The screws are a little tricky to get in just cause there is not a lot of space to work with, but nothing difficult. It is whisper quiet.

Thanks for the reccomendation !
