Shaking Monitor

My friend claims that since he moved, his display shakes and is very hard to look at. Assuming he is right and the whole house or room or desk is not shaking, does anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on and how to fix it?

Degauss? Change the refresh rate? Percussive maintenance?

yeah make sure the Power running to the monitor is clean (I assume this is a CRT since LCD's dont have this behavior). Back in my CRT days I moved to a townhouse and discovered that the outlets where my PCs and monitors were connected to was on the same circuit as the dryer so I had a dirty power line and my CRT's would shake something awful.. I purchased a $79 APC Line regulator and my problems went away.

These Voltage regulators are great things, I have one for all my important electronics, TV, computers, monitors.

Tell him to try moving it away from the wall. It's entirely possible the wall's electrical wiring is generating interference. If that doesn't work, you might check if there's high voltage power lines nearby.

Doesn't everyone have a Faraday cage around their desk?

Maybe he put a speaker very near to the monitor? The magnets in speakers will do that sometimes.

I had this same problem for about a week, when I realized that the desk fan next to my monitor was causing the issue. I've also had the problem with a flourescent lamp on the desk.

Yeah, I had it with a plugged in battery recharger. Just make sure there are no electrical appliances near the monitor.

It's probably ghosts. Have him check to see if his house was built on an ancient Indian burial ground.
