Viewsonic Optiquest Q7B3 for gaming?

Is this monitor suited for use with WoW and other games at the same level of visual complexity? This will be a sort of "mid-range" gaming monitor for my wife, if it works out. I'm a little worried by the price and the reference to "video response time".

Any advice?

The 8MS response time is more than sufficient for games, you won't see any streaking there. The 500:1 contrast ratio could be better but I'm assuming this is a $150 dollar monitor, so that's just fine and it's only a matter of degrees when you compare it to higher ratios.

The only general advice I have would be to buy it at a big box store with a flexible return policy. Most smaller outfits don't take returns on LCD monitors and would refer you to the manufacturer if you have dead pixels. If you don't have enough dead pixels on the screen, the maker won't replace it.

It's got an 8-pixel return threshold - that should be okay, I think? $165 at NewEgg.

Depends on whether or not you get one with 7 bad pixels or not. I have heard that this is somewhat of a non issue these days, and reports of people getting them seem to be few and far between. I can tell you it made me excaptionally paranoid when I bought my LCD earlier this year.

Check out Dead Pixel Buddy. Quick and easy way to find dead/stuck pixels, and includes examples so you can see what one looks like, even if viewing on a CRT.

Hey, thanks Pol! I'll definitely dl that when I get the monitor.

First impressions are very good with WoW. And the screen is BRIGHT, especially considering ViewSonic's penchant for dark CRTs. I get blurring with scrolling text in the browser, but WoW plays well without any ghosting or the like, so far.

Checking for dead pixels RSN.

No dead pixels. Thanks again Pol!

wuhoo!

I am really happy with my viewsonic va902b 19" flat panel.

Fang, on the basis of the Q7b and your comments, I ordered two of the 922's - 2ms response time. I'll have cut my power usage in the room by over 200W with these, plus getting bigger monitors. I eagerly await them.

LOL! I figured you'd be replacin' those CRT's soon enough. You and Kiri were just too enthusiastic about that new LCD.
