Texans sign Williams for #1 pick & NFL Draft day thread

And my next favorite player goes off the board - Daryn Colledge. Even ahead of Eric Winston. My praise of Colledge is redeemed.

Now there's one less tackle that the Texans can pray for to last to round 3.

Another corner goes ahead of Richard Marshall and Ashton Youboty. Someone is going to score with these guys somewhere in this round. I sure wouldn't mind Marshall lasting to Jacksonville - it's not a position of need but boy he would be hard to pass on.

Some good linemen still on the board too. Eric Winston at tackle. Max Jean-Gilles and Charles Spencer at guard.

Jacksonville would probably love to get Abdul Hodge at linebacker.

Jets trade up to #49 and get Kellen Clemens.

Clemens is a nice passer and probably is physically more ready to play than Brodie Croyle is in 2006, but I like Croyle better long-term.

Chargers take Marcus McNeil. I was wondering who was going to gamble on the amazingly athletic but lazy and terrible technique tackle. Taking him ahead of Eric Winston? I'll take Winston's knee injury recovery before I go for McNeil.

I like the Eagles choices so far.. one never knows what the future holds for picks but at least they didnt do wacky things and played it safe going for DL and OL which they severely needed.

Jesus. The Bears take another corner that's rated WAY below Marshall and Youboty. They're smoking some good crack there in Illa-noize.

Carolina steals Richard Marshall. Damn they are having an ass-kicking draft so far.

Jacksonville takes Maurice Drew. Very interesting. This is about where I had him going. I'm surprised they didn't grab Abdul Hodge though.

With Greg Jones on the team as a power runner, Drew could be very interesting as an outside runner.

I really want to know what the team is going to do for weakside linebacker.

A lot of talent still on the board at the less-valued positions (like interior lineman). Can't wait for their round 3 pick.

Man, with Eric Winston and some top guards left on the list, and Houston having the first 2 picks in round 3, they just might luck out on the offensive line issue.

Maybe the Texans are smarter than all of us after all! What do you think of Seattle's 2nd round pick, Tapp? I'm understanding more of why they drafted Jennings (Seattle likes to draft bright/high GPA players from good programs like Tatupu & Jennings), but I didn't think that we really needed help at DE when guys like Winston were on the board.

Houston re-discovered the fact that the game of football has offensive linemen! They take Charles Spencer from Pitt, and Eric Winston from Miami!

WOW. That's lucky with a capital "L"!

Looks like Houston might have a decent draft after all by picking up two great linemen. Getting worried yet, Legion?

Minase: Tapp is a high effort player that's a bit light to be an every-down DE. He's a "tweener" who seemed like more of a fit for a 3-4 team. In a 4-3, he's a situational pass rusher who plays hard every play. He's the best pash rusher left on the board at that point. But I think Seattle should have looked at one of these big guards, like Max Jean-Giles, to step into Hutchinson's vacated spot. I don't think anyone really wants to have to rely on Pork Chop as a starter, he hasn't yet lived up to that (he's shown flashes).

As for Houston, them getting these linemen in round 3 doesn't totally make up for them not taking Reggie Bush. I would have been a lot more worried if it was Reggie Bush and Winston Justice landing on that team. But they have improved their draft grade a lot in my eyes.

Green Bay just took Abdul Hodge, another great selection for them. They're having a killer draft too.

Buffalo FINALLY makes a pick where they get good value for the spot they're drafting. After two MAJOR reaches in round 1, they finally get an underrated player in Youboty.

Jacksonville trades up to get Clint Ingram.

Oh man, am I happy about that. Ingram's a real athlete and a disruptor. He's a 3rd rounder because he needs a lot of work on improving in the mental game for playing linebacker (making the right decisions, not getting caught out of position). Just the kind of project whose best case scenario is ending up with a coach like a Jack Del Rio.

He's not quite as explosive as Thomas Howard, the linebacker I thought Jacksonville might end up with in round 1, but he's great value in round 3.

man, is anyone going to pick Omar Jacobs? I had high hopes for him.

Jacobs was very unimpressive in postseason activities. He was thought to be as high as the 4th quarterback at one point, but a lot of QBs outworked and outperformed him and he really got leapfrogged by a small army of signal callers.
