Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Game Stories and Spoilers

Had some fun in Bruma over the weekend....

One of the Dark Brotherhood quests is to loosen the fixings on a wall mounting in Baenlin's house in Bruma so that the poor fellow gets a fatal bump on the head.
Even allowing for the live-in bodyguard, the task went well and I duly got my payment and bonus.
As it happened I was in Bruma the following day and, out of morbid curiosity decided to stop by and see if Baenlin's body was still slumped in the chair. Turns out his nephew had taken residence, so I looted the house (a bit of shouting from the boy but no 'red hand' and no bounty on my head) and headed off to see my good friend Ongar in the local pub to fence some previously 'acquired' merchandise.

And then it all kicked off!

Baenlin's, now ex, bodyguard was having a few drinks to drown his sorrows and took exception to my presence. Understandably perhaps, although I was a little surprised as he never actually *saw* me do the deed. So he took a swing and blind-sided me with his warhammer. This enraged some of the other bar patrons who sprang to my defence and started to pummel the guy with their fists. Weight of numbers drove the guy outside into the street where the Bruma constabulary weighed in with swords and bows to try to quell the trouble.

All pretty hilarious stuff to watch, but with a sad outcome. Apart from the ex-bodyguard another four people were slain (probably by the Bruma Guard, brutal lot) including the Novarama and Nord Winds shopkeepers. Both shops are now permanently closed for business. Although I'm sure I've detected a sly grin on the face of the other shopkeepers when I sell my bounty!

So that's what the fight was about. I never knew that was the ex-bodyguard as I never saw Baenlin or the bodyguard, relying on detect life instead. Okay then, I put over 170 hours into the game and never, ever saw unscripted violence not instigated by me.

Dammit, it happened again.

When leaving Bruma, my horse gets attacked by Edla Dark-Heart. She just starts shooting arrows at it for no discernable reason:

IMAGE(http://rps.net/QS/Images/edla.jpg)

It's happened before, many days ago. Last time, I can't remember if I drove her off or simply reloaded.

This time it was even weirder. When she started attacking my horse, I suddenly got kicked out of the Mages guild, and then the Thieves Guild! For stealing!

What the hell? Has anyone else seen any mention of this bizarre bug? Note: this is not a stolen horse, it cost me a pretty penny.

I am amused by all the arrows sticking out of its butt. Poor horse.

I've had bizarre things happen to me. 2 come to mind.
-One was a point in the story where Bruma guards are gathered around an oblivion gate that Im about to have to go into. For no apparent reason, the guards with bows are all shooting at me while we rally the troops. I need those guards for the coming attack so I just stick my shield up and try to dodge as many as possible until the fight starts. That worked out pretty well for me. All seemed to be forgiven after the battle.
-Next had to do with the twerp who offers to follow you around if you become Arena champ. I let him... led him into the woods and slaughtered him. Later when I stepped into my first Oblivion gate, he was there! He offered to be my fan again, acting just like he did when I first met him. I killed him again :p

Yeah, he's a trooper.

Ha, I've heard that before. I told the twerp to buzz off when he accosted me.

Nope, that's free, too.

As are several complete sets of Blades Armor if you search.

for example, who will attack you on sight once you reach a certain point in the main quest.

If any of you guys ever encounter Umbra? TAKE HER DOWN. What a weapon. Almost unbalancingly good.

Hrm, but the thing is, Edla doesn't attack me. Just my horse. If I attack her, she says, "But I'm on your side!" Also, this simply doesn't explain why I get kicked out of the Thieves Guild and Mages Guild at the exact same time she starts attacking. It's like my horse stole stomething and I'm getting blamed. But the guards attack her, not me, not the horse.

I think Edla just hates horses!

Maybe she's hungry and needs a meal

Did any had any issues with Sanguine Deadric quest? ...on Xbox 360.

As I started the quest... the game locked up on me may be 7 times. 2 times when I try to enter the castle and 5 when I cast the spell that is needed for the quest. In the last attempt I removed all of my equipment and cast the spell. I got jailed but as soon as I was out the game locked up on me again. Now the funny thing is if I ignore the quest and do something else the game runs fine.

Plus this is really odd, this is the first time I'm getting lock ups other than Quake 4 and that was 4 month ago.

Nei, that was a weird bug... Can you play the game after you finished that quest?

QS, that is pretty fun bug That was not a shadowmare right? If not, it could be that one of your mods messed up your faction list somewhere, and that the NPC treated your horse as a valid type of animal to hunt...

Don't know, the game locks my console during the quest or any time I try to do the quest. The good news is that I'm not the only person who have this issue... the bad news, those people can not finish the quest just like me. Well at least it did not scratch the disk nor deleted my saves like for some.

ouch... the best thing to do right now is to complain to bethsoft so they can add that fix in the patch. Do you know what event of that quest causes the crash? I wonder if it has anything to do with the spell and your 360 overheating...

Nope Xbox 360 is fine... PSU is cool as well. It's a bug for sure because I decided to skip the quest and been playing for like 5 hours with no issues.

So what causes is it, I think is the effects of the spell because once the spell hits the target the game/console locks up. However, I did some playing around and I think it might be caused by the equipment that I have. I notice if I remove all of my equipment, especially magically enchanted... once the spell takes the effect I can still play a bit. So I tested further to see what would happen. What I did is let the guards catch me and put me in jail... then I saved and serve my time. Here is where it gets really funky, once I'm released the game locks up and if I try to load the save game when I was in jail... the loading process locks up.

The thing is, I think one of the earlier bugs are causing the new one. I did a quest long time ago where I had to retrieve a weapon for a person. I did and gave it to a quest giver... however a week later I went to a same dungeon and found that same weapon again. So now I can not get rid of it because it's part of the quest... but I already did the quest. The funny part is that If I get jailed... they will take the quest item. Yet once I'm released from prison I should be given all of my stuff back so it could be that weapon what is causing it. Ultimately, I figure the game locks up due to the fact that I'm given some equipment that I'm not supposed to have... but I could be way off.

Either way, I guess I can do nothing but wait for the patch...

Have you tried resisting the arrest? You know that one of the "better" way to finish that quest is actually just run like the wind right? Once you are out of the city you are safe.

What does Sanguine's reward do anyway? I've completed the quest, but it's one item I just never tried out, like the Staff of Corruption.

Hmm didn't though about it... but I tried and as soon as I exit the castle the game locks up. Looks like I'll wait for the patch to finish the last few quests... I wonder how many of them there are because I've done 160+ so far. Only 4 are active but I doubt Arena and DB will ever finish.

In the mean time... game is on hold!

[color=white] The Sanguine Rose is a staff that when cast on someone summons a deadra. The deadra usually then attacks that person you cast it on. The daedra doesn't hang around long, but I've found that the Sanguine Staff is much more useful than the Skull of Corruption because it seems like you can cast it at people and not be charged with a "crime." I've had good luck when I wanted to cause general chaos in towns. With the Skull of Corruption, it creates a duplicate "evil" version of the person you cast it on, but it's equivalent to just stabbing that person with a sword in terms of "crime." And the doppleganger almost always loses.

Edit: On a similar note, can anyone tell me what the Wabbajak does? I cast it on everyone I could find in Leyawin and nothing ever happened (except them getting mad and attacking me/calling the guards).

I think that one changes creatures into other creatures, unreliably.

Here's my 2¢ concerning Edla Dark-Heart...started keeping track of odd occurances (thus the story below), then saw the post here, updated my notes and thought I'd share...hope it helps.

Odd Occurance #1:

After taking the quest to find the stolen Stone of St. Alessia, I fast traveled to the stables outside of Bruma. From further down the road, Edla Dark-Heart came running and then started shooting arrows into my horse (the Paint Horse you get from the Priory). When I attacked her in return, she cried out "I'm on your side!", but still kept shooting my horse! So, I attacked her back and a gaurd from Bruma came running to do the same. I didn't get a bounty for killing her either. Odd! I also tried reloading and exiting the gates on foot. Same deal.

So, I read online that [Quintin_Stone] had the same problem, and further, after killing her, they were expelled from both the Mages and Thieves Guild. I didn't want that so I reloaded, and to finish the quest for the Stone, I simply fast traveled to somewhere else besides the Stables and then walked to where I needed to meet the bandit.

Later, I entered Bruma to go speak with Edla at Regner's House; if I were going to eventually kill her, thought I'd at least speak to her to see if she'd train up my Marksmen first. I was already past the point where she could train me, so I worked on her Disposition instead and got it up to 80 in the hopes I wouldn't have to kill her later.

To test that theory, I once again fast-traveled to the Stables and she didn't appear this time to kill my horse. So, hopefully, problem solved.

P.S., should also note that even if Elda can no longer train you, there's a Book Downstairs that will raise your Marksmanship by 1.

One more interesting note about Edla Dark-Heart...I also spoke with Regner and got a Rumor that Edla may once have been, or still is an Assassin? Coincidence? We'll see as the story progresses (haven't joined the Dark Brotherhood yet, so who knows at this point). If I find out anything else, I'll try and remember to post it.

That's the spell that remove's everything from the inventory of everyone in it's effect radius, right? I think that the spell's effect is just too much action at once for the game engine to handle, and if it's not freezing up then the game is still destabilized enough for the slightest nudge to send it over. I made it through that quest without any problems, though I tend to travel light- just clothing/jewelry (no armor), one weapon and a few potions/ingredients/hammers. Everything I don't immediately need I sell or leave at home. Try dropping off all your equipment (except the clothing necessary for the mission) at a house before the mission and give it another go.

I found all the clue except for the Stains....but i can't Find the Dining Hall. Can someone give me easy Directions to it?

I think at this point we can dispense with the spoiler tags.. especially since this isn't much of a spoiler.

The dining room is directly off from the throne room. When you first enter the castle, you go through a foyer, and then enter the throne room.. if you take your immediate right, you will enter the Dining Hall.

thanx now i need help to get that girl to tell me the motive..... I tried bribe now all i can do it admire her and that stuff. what should i do so she trust me?

Assuming you've found all 3 clues, you need to get her disposition up to 70 or higher before she'll confess.

To obtain dogs for your house you need:
A low level command creature spell.
Either the ability to kill a citizen in one hit or a Frenzy spell, as high level as you can manage.
A citizen of the Empire that owns a dog.

There's a lady in Chorrol that owns two. I think they're named Kezune and Bailey. They follow her everywhere, which is what seperates them from dogs in the wild. Owned dogs' AI forces them to follow their owner. Kill the owner and their AI no longer has anywhere for them to go, unless they have been successfully hit with a command creature spell. While commanded they will follow the player anywhere, even through doors. Once the spell wears off they'll just hang out wherever they happen to be, preferably your house.

In order not to get arrested you either need to kill her in one hit while hidden, or Frenzy her into attacking you. Once a guard notices her Frenzied up they'll kill her for you, with no marks on your permanent record. The dogs will not stick up for their owner as they would for a player that is commanding them.

Do not go into her home while she and the dogs are there. Her husband will notice the dogs initially starting to attack you (which apparently is cancelled immediately just for them) and will come to your defense by killing the dogs. I found she normally visited the Chapel every day.

You can only get one creature to follow you around at a time. I'm not sure if they will fast travel with the player or not, so if you live in a city where nobody has a dog you might be looking at a dangerous trek across Cyrodil to get them home.
