Most of the 5-1/4" disks at our house were Datalife/Verbatim so this is a double-flashback hit.

We had a ton of these, more than the Verbatim ones, although they were for sure in there. Memorex and Maxell, too, and probably a few more that I can't recall.

This was my family's first computer. If they kept them that way, computer geeks would be buff!

Then of course with the floppy disks if you screw up the placement of the hole you punched you just keep on punching until it took. Had plenty of disks like that.

At some point I downloaded a huge trove of scanned game magazines from the late 80s into the 90s. Once and a while I will open 2-3 and skim through them. A real trip on the way back machine.

I asked for an Atari 2600 for Christmas for more than six months, not realizing that of course my mom had probably bought it, like, two months into this campaign.

The Sears branded version was like $10 cheaper, and came with a different game. And...yeah. Do not remember if i was successfully cool about it.

Played Pong at a neighbors. My single mom managed the Sears brand above, and eventually a Commodore 64, which she did not realize needed a disk drive. And games. Thankfully, I eventually got the drive (See NSMike above) AND I had an older friend who was a [CLEVELAND].

Spoiler:

Do we have to not mention games copied in 1985?

This is the model we had as well. Not sure exactly when my dad got it as I don't ever remember a time he didn't have it. I still have a shoe box with some of the games for it, but I put my 2600 Jr in a shadowbox to hang it on the wall. Wouldn't mind getting a Tele-Games model again just because that was the first one we had but I would have to mod it to hook it up (which would be fun, but the Xbox and PS2 are next on my list of consoles to mod) as I don't think my TV has an analog tuner. I have the Retron '77 on my Amazon wishlist just in case.

I love Calvin and Hobbes

May have some of them here: https://archive.org/details/magazine...

Every once in awhile I'll go there and read through an old video game or computer gaming magazine.

I used to have hundreds of those video gaming/computer magazines from that time period. Decades ago, before a move, I ended up throwing 95% of them in the trash. Wish I had known about some of the gaming museum groups that show up at some of the pinball/gaming expos. Would have donated if I had known.

I loved the Barry episode that did a play on this and how impossible any of these sequences would be to hear.
