Post a picture, entertain me!

Yes, and at least in my case, too much of it, too.

This. The urge to whip out a phone and take a picture of food is astonishing to me. It's the antithesis of being present in the moment (and, incidentally, the reason I rarely take photos while traveling) and especially for food, does anyone really care about what you ate? If someone delays a meal because they need to get a shot of it, then they're no friend of mine. If they start rearranging stuff on the table, they get slapped. If they start rearranging *my* stuff, they end up in the murder basement.

I only do this when I want to send a picture to my son that says "I'm having ribs, and you're not".

That said, my wife used to get mad at me because I didn't want to capture video of my son's soccer games when she wasn't there. I told her I wanted to watch the game.

Yes.

Can we at least all agree that constantly holding up your cell phone to film a concert/sports game (remember those?) is incredibly stupid? I usually take a picture or two before the event as a reminder for when I scroll through old pictures a few years later, but I don't get holding up your phone the entire frickin' time.

Tag and photo check out.

Agreed. When one of my newly-minted (HA!) vegetarian friends was espousing the virtues of their gastrointestinal lifestyle a bit too strongly, I promptly pointed them to research about plants evoking distress through sound (read: scream). To which the conversation morphed into ironic drinking of alcohol.

what about plants that have evolved for the purpose of being eaten so their seeds can be fertilized? I like to imagine fruits having moaning O's as I'm taking a bite.

What about animals who have evolved to be eaten in order to coerce other animals to facilitate their reproduction and care for their young? Being tasty to humans, as a plant or an animal, is pretty much hands down the most successful reproductive strategy available on the planet.

Since this is the picture thread....

I actually really dig watching people's videos from concerts. It's real without me having to be there. Of course being the lazy selfish bastard that I am, I would never hold my arm up that long.

But did they take pictures of their food philosophy?

I cracked up so hard at this! Love it! I think a re-watch of that movie is in order for Halloween.

One could conceivably generate a pretty accurate three dimensional recreation of the event from multiple recordings using photogrammetry. I've never seen animated photogrammetry before, I assume because even if the tech were around already it would result in a massive filesize.

But hey, keep archiving!

John Carpenter helped the Thing photograph everything it ate.

Clocky wins the thread.

I have a dumb story about this. My 4 year old loves watching Curious George. At one point George and The Man in the Yellow Hat are in Scotland visiting his relatives. George has a run-in with several of these. They call them Scottish coos. My daughter starts talking to me over and over again about Scottish coos and I have no idea what she's going on about. Had to google the episode to figure it out. 4 year olds soak everything up but can't quite sort it all out in their brains.

Highland cows are the cutest.

It's the tail that really makes it.

Watched the original release of Godzilla again on Canadian Thanksgiving. Still a great film. Extremely impressive. My parents hadn't seen it since they were children and my wife hadn't ever seen it despite being culturally important to her. This would have been a better remake than the American edit a few years later.
