Comics, etc.

I was completely uninterested in the wrestling book until the last word of your description.

I just finished Far Sector, by NK Jemisin and Jamal Campbell, and absolutely adored it. It's a Green Lantern book, but you don't really need to know anything about either Green Lantern or the DC Universe, really. I thought it was a fantastic read.

Green Lantern is actually one of the few non-Marvel superheroes I dig! I like cosmic stuff.

Then you should totally get Far Sector!

If you haven't heard, Peter David, the writer who invented Spider-Man 2099, did one of my favorite She-Hulk runs and so, so, so, so much more is in poor health. A GoFundMe has been set up to help pay some of his medical bills.

Editorial cartoonist Matt Bors from The Nib has been making an actual comic book with artist Ben Clarkson for the last couple years called Justice Warriors and I highly recommend it. It’s basically an updated, modernized Judge Dredd and it is excellent. It takes place in the cyberpunk dystopia of The Uninhabited Zone, a sprawling urban wasteland of mutants and cyborgs surrounding Bubble City, a crime-free utopian domed city that citizens from the UZ are forbidden from entering. The main character is Officer Swamp, a mutant cop who has to show a new recruit the ropes of policing the UZ while suffering from PTSD after watching his last partner get pancaked by a self-driving bus that decided it would get in less trouble with it’s transit corporation for killing a pedestrian than for being late on it’s route.

Picked this little lot up for £375.
Prog 90 - 1074 (20 yrs of weekly progs) + Megazines + a few more bits (Aliens full run) all really well looked after (not like my old progs !)
Deal or steal... what do you reckon ?

Another iconic Bolland cover. I actually owned this when it was first released, but my mum gave all my comics to a hospital. I've waited 47 years to get it back !

Strontium Dog the mutant bounty hunter, another fan fave.

Nemesis drawn by the incredible and wildly insane talent Kevin O'Neil (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

My fave all time, Halo Jones written by Alan "Watchmen" Moore and drawn by the genius Ian Gibson.

Marvel and DC this 'aint !

Nice loot!

Very cool! Only pulpy anthology stuff that I've read are old Creepy and Eerie comics.

ZARJAZ!

This brings a tear to my eyes

I met 2000AD as a teen thanks to very convoluted circumstances. Long story short I ended up having access to about a year's worth of weeklys and some assorted monthly specials that I later "inherited" and still keep. Thanks to that influence I was inspired to draw and create better comics as I used to do back then instead of paying attention in class, and also helped me to learn english by actually making it interesting, I would try to guess what the story was about apart from the amazing drawings, even thou there were many cases where it was impossible to understand, nevermind translate the dialogue as some characters were phonetically written with scot or irish accents (I'm looking at you, Strontium Dog's sidekicks)

ABC WARRIORS, Nemesis, Zenith, Strontium Dog, Rogue Trooper, Slaine and Judge Dredd, to name some of my favourites, made me a proper geek and pushed me towards creative endeavours from an early age, I can never overstate how influential this magazine was to me.

I owe so much to 2000AD I can't help feeling happy when I see something like this, I hope I get to expand my own collection in the future. Enjoy it!

Edit: were does not equal "where"

Some classics by the looks of it. Great buy.

When I was 14 I started collecting comic books seriously (although I DID read all of them multiple times).
The first books I bought were X-Terminators (Inferno plotline), X-Factor 34 (Arc-Angel confront Cameron Hodge) and Uncanny X-Men 235 (the Genoshan saga). Dark twisted stories. I was in.

IMAGE(https://d29xot63vimef3.cloudfront.net/image/x-factor/34-1.jpg)
IMAGE(https://d29xot63vimef3.cloudfront.net/image/uncanny-x-men/235-7.jpg)

Seven years later I'd amassed around 200 comics and I stupidly sold them to get money to buy records (I was a DJ). It was a decision I've regretted my whole life. I promised myself that if I could ever get my collection back, then I would.

Around ten years ago I discovered a local shop selling second hand comics for about 60p each, or bags of four for a pound. Some were not in great shape, others were completely mint. I amassed around 100 before the shop unfortunately closed it's doors.

Recently I joined a few Facebook comic collectors groups and I have bought a bunch, and I thought I'd share.

First deal... >1,000 2000AD for £375. Great deal, comics were mint. Have a few boxes that I can even sell as I don't collect them (posted above).

Second deal... 3/10 - £400 for assorted X-Men and Silver Surfer. This deal looked great online, but my inexperience burned me hard. Unbagged with a ton of reader quality, and hardly any from the golden age I wanted. Also took out all of the notable issues before selling. Got a few gems though.

IMAGE(https://i.postimg.cc/RV8KCprK/20230818-151704.jpg)

Third and fourth from a great source... 7/10 - £150 for all X-Factor v1 + few annuals (few dupes too, so could pick the best. Quality good-very fine.

As I was thanking him I mentioned he had 100 Avengers and 100 golden age West Coast Avengers going for £140 each (I collect neither). He said he'd do both for £220 which I instantly took. Heck... I love Bobbi Morse so that's something !

Fifth... 10/10 ! Now I had lots of gaps, so found a place called SPLAT! comics which are simply unbelievable in both service, price and quality. Bought about £150 X-Men (all the ones missing from my first deal... lots of Jim Lee !!), Age of Apocalypse (best story ever), Birds of Prey and a few other bits. These were professionally packed, came wrapped in super hero wallpaper and graded. Look at this !!!

So that was that. I am done buying ANY MORE this year. Finito. Zipped up. Locked down... ooooh... my guy has an ebay listing for 21 long-boxes, estimated 4,000 books for £1,600. Only issue is he's 400 miles away, collection only. But I ask about it and he sends videos of him painstakingly going through each box. By the second box I've agreed the sale, hired a van, driven the length of England and picked up 24 boxes stuffed to the brim. This is ex-retail stock from a shop that has folded. Latest issue is 2022. earliest is 1960s, but the lion's share is 2000-2015. Lots of no.1s. Lots of anniversary specials and a ton signed with certs and sealed.

After painstakingly sorting, indexing, deduplicating and putting the whole lot on a database this is what the sixth deal actually was (11/10) ;

DC - 1,661
MARVEL - 1,510
OTHER (Image, Dark Horse, IDW etc) - 1,059
Duplicates for sale - 677
£1,600 for 4,907 books !

Here are the highlights ;

So that's it. No more this year (apart from the 150 Supergirl and Wonder Woman I just ordered from SPLAT !..)

I have a problem...

Wow

Loved the story! I read all those X-Men and X-Factors back in the day --they were so much fun! Congrats on all those deals, pinkdino99!

There is something peak 90s about this image. And I will be honest, the hope I can look 50% this cool is part of the reason why I still have a goatee.

I do not celebrate that holiday, but if I did... today would certainly feel like Christmas.

SPLAT! comics delivery. My treat for doing dry October (was actually cheaper buying all these than buying wine for a month... who knew !
Assorted Supergirl, Wonder Woman and a few Age of Apocalypse bits.
And he threw in some Batman chocolates !

Amazon’s finally killing off the Comixology app and forcing everyone into the Kindle app on Dec 4th. I had already mostly stopped using it in favor of using the DC and Marvel apps for their stuff and going back to physical for indie comics but I’m still angry about what Amazon did to a once great service. Even the Kindle app is worse now because the actual books get lost among the multiple thousands of comics that I’ve bought over the last decade.

Really happy with this little project.

There's a predator vs wolverine comic. Why didn't anyone tell me this? I can't rely on you guys for anything.
