Excuse my ignorance, but is he still alive... or was that the joke? :?

yes very much so.. and he's basically a god in Philly.

So much so that believe or not (and this really gives a good idea of Philly fan mentality) Buddy Ryan in a popularity contest (and they've done them) beats all other Eagle Head Coaches by a landslide.

If you asked 10 Eagles fans if they would rather have Buddy Ryan or Andy Reid as a head coach I'd say 8 out of 10 would say Buddy.

Simply because him and his team was the exact personality of Philly and its fans.. who could ever forget Andre "Dirty" Waters cheap shot on "whatshisname" after the game.. or running out early on the field during warmups and blocking the other teams punter's Punts.. Trying to break Emmits leg.. etc..

The Bounty Bowl.. the Body Bag Bowl (Mitchell had to play QB) and others..

Ahh.. the god ol pre salary cap era.

Why not just hire Tom Landry's hat?

Can't. Homer Simpson bought it just before he became owner of the Denver Broncos before selling it almost immediately, which was his loss since in the following season, the Broncos won the Super Bowl.

Gary Kubiak gets the Texans job.

This bodes well for Reggie Bush. I mentioned before how Bush would benefit from a Denver style zone-blocking scheme. Well, you can count on Denver's offensive coordinator of the last 11 years for having that scheme up his sleeve.

Also of interest: David Carr's option is getting picked up. From what I've heard, everyone that they have consulted on Carr has recommended that the team pay the money to keep him and stick with him. Maybe this is finally a sign of the team recognizing where their problems on offense are - it ain't at the QB position.

As a Broncos fan, this makes me sad. What will we do without our zone blocking and dominant run? Has the torch been passed to someone who will maintain the strategy?

Heard that Levy may take be GM AND coach.

Rod Marinelli may be taking the Oakland job which would suck. Can't imagine anyone doing well there thanks to having no control.

Your first concern should be the rest of the Broncos staff. After all, Kubiak now has to build an entire staff beneath him, and where do you think he's going to look to first?

Does that mean that the AFC South now needs to fear for its knees as well?

Yes.

You bastards broke Paul Spicer's leg last year!

Irony alert!

Turner fired Nolan as his defensive coordinator in Washington. Look who's come crawling back.

Turner didn't fire Nolan - Dan Snyder fired Nolan. Or, more precisely, forced Turner to.

Here's a nice article from when Nolan was hired in SF. Read about Snyder's treatment of Nolan.

You can also read a bit about this in the book "Next Man Up" by John Feinstein. Feinstein followed the Ravens for a year and has quite a bit about Nolan in there. Sounds like Snyder is more of an *ss than we thought.

Mangina Named Jets Coach

What? It's spelled Mangini? Potato, Potatoe, whatever.

Lots of drama surrounding the Mangini move.

New England's pissed. Belichick was telling Mangini not to make the move. New England's still sore over the Parcells move from them to the Jets.

The NY Post quoted an "insider" who said, "There's bad blood with this one".

Weird, I can't find anything about the Pats being angry in the Boston Globe.

Well, the Post isn't exactly "scrupulous".

You know what else you don't see?

Someone like Robert Kraft saying, "We're happy for Mangini, this is a great opportunity for him, we wish him luck, etc. etc. etc."

One quote from the Globe: "'None of us expected Eric would leave this quickly," said the Patriots source. ''It's been tough around here losing good people."

Another story referenced the rumors of Belichick trying to talk Mangini out of making the move.

I don't know what your opinion of Snyder was prior to this, but for me that isn't even a possibility. In my opinion, he had reached the pinnacle of assitude long ago. In fact, upon further investigation, no bigger ass has yet to be found in world of sports.

well......I mean there is still Jerry Jones

Also..his teeth are freaky looking..

Should there bee some sort of NFL "Asshole-Off" running concurrent the playoffs? We can have Freddy Mitchell, Jerry Jones, Dan Snyder all compete, and, perhaps, they'll let Marcus Vick compete a year early.

From everything I've heard about this kid, the Asshole of the Year award belongs to anyone who actually hires him. They would be asking for trouble, and pretty certainly getting it. Give the kid a year or two to live without a spotlight, and maybe he will grow up, but hiring him into the NFL would be a huge mistake. I'm guessing the Raiders try to get him.

*Shrugs*
Meh. I think he was a good D-Coordinator but, I don't think anyone here, especially the other coaches thought that he was ready for a HC job. After watching his press conference, I tend to agree.

Damn straight, this kid and the Raiders are a tailor-made fit for each other.
