Anyone playing Dark Age of Camelot?

I've just stumbled into a free copy of Dark Age of Camelot and decided to give the old girl another whirl. Turns out it's a blast. I'm playing on the Lancelot node of servers if anyone wants to join me. My toon's name is Murer in Hibernia.

If anyone has any questions about the new expansions, let me hear 'em.

I am in a guild on Galahad, playing Midguard, though just need to download and install the game, had to reinstall Windows a couple weeks ago, and haven't gotten around to it.

I thought this was a great game. I REALLY enjoyed exploring the dungeons.

As I leveled up i could go deeper and deeper.

The problem was that everybody was so into rvr that I got to a certain level and could NEVER find anybody to group up with in the dungeon. i would camp at the entrance and log on a couple of times a night for a couple of weeks and nobody would ever run by so I quit.

BTW, how are the "retro" servers they promised doing? I mean the ones that run pre-Atlantis code.

Karma, try Gaheris, it's a PVE-only server. I have a level 48-ish character on there.

Smials, I haven't played any of the "classic" servers, I really like the catacombs and darkness falls expansions, so I doubt I'll try one. They seem pretty popular though.

I loved this until they made my cleric a healbot.
I miss my Abilir.
*sniff

A girlfriend of mine is employed as in-game help for DAoC; I can't quite remember what the technical name of her job position is, but she basically runs around and answers questions in-game all day. I thought she was going to explode into a thousand shields and arrows when she found out she'd got the job :). And that's my brush with fame.

Kat, that's how I've gotten the account. A friend of mine works for Mythic.

So the long and short is... I'm not going to be joined by any GWJ?

I actually reactivated my account the other day and picked up both expansions - fired it up and went "meh". The graphics and the gameplay just seemed so stale. I loved the game when it first came out, but for some reason it didnt float my boat this time around.

Did you use the new graphics engine? I'm actually really impressed with it. In many ways I prefer it to WoW simply because it isn't cartoon-ish.

And with the new catacombs expansion leveling is a breeze and a lot of fun.

I absolutely loved the game except for one thing...I only wanted to play the one account. This eventually made it impossible for me to play.

That and the RvR expansion basically sucked imo

I had Catacombs and Darkness Falls installed - did I have to do anything more then that to get it going?

I tried DAoC once played 2 hours and quit it - it looked so much like everquest i thought why play DAoC when i can play everquest (a game i played before and somewhat fermiliar with) .

I fired it up again and the graphics seemed a bit better - I went through and ran each client once and it patched each one. The mobs look pretty good as does some of the terrain, but the character models seem kind of "meh". I created a couple of toons on gaheris. I seem to get drawn to teh sorceror over and over again. I started a Vampiir as well, but couldnt seem to get into it. If the revamped the abhorrent interface and made it a little more user friendly that would be a plus. DAoC has had some serious staying power and I have high hopes for the Warhammer game they are developing.

Even more surprising is how many folks you can get onscreen and in-zone in DAoC before it gets laggy vs. WoW(at least, up until I quit WoW). I don't know what it is, but DAoC's engine just handled it better, even on an old GeForce3.

I loved DAOC until the great cleric nerf...then I quit. I still miss Torwynd. And I had the greatest guild...the whole guild was clerics. We all quit after the nerf.

Heh, I was also a cleric. I stayed through the great nerf and all the way up to Trials of Atlantis but finally quit after that travesty of an expansion.
