Firefly - Love it!

So, they can just stop using the name "Jayne" with it and mention "We are not affiliated with the Fox Corporation." in the description? Seems like a really easy solution for Think Geek.

Hey, they could even say "This is not a Jayne hat and we are not affiliated with the Fox Corporation." That way, it would show up when you searched for "Jayne hat."

Hey now, they are within their rights to stop the making of what are, essentially, knock-offs.

Even if they are, they can go f*ck themselves, thank you very much.

Although characters have an identity, persona, and other expressive elements, clothing, by itself, is considered a useful article, unprotectable under copyright (a principle that's proven a major irritant for clothing designers). In a 1989 case, a court of appeals refused to protect costume designs even though the company had registered its costumes as "soft sculptures" with the Copyright Office. Other decisions reinforced the rule that costumes are not protectable. There may be instances where a movie company that owns a series such as Indiana Jones could complain that your costume sale -- for example, hat, jacket and whip -- could violate trademark laws if you used the name of the character in your advertising.

This.

Every year you see adventurer costumes at Halloween shops. If they sell them as space mercenary hats, fox can suck it.

Fox is bent on destroying every last reminder of Firefly, forever...

I would want the Space Cowboy costume from Castle.

That was like, the best scene ever.

I think the issue was less with Think Geek and more with small shops on etsy. Think Geek is selling the licensed version.

That said, they should be able to skirt around the issue by changing the names a bit like Valve does with TF2 virtual goods and companies like Fangamer do with unlicensed merch.

Yes, Think Geek went and got permission to start making an officially licensed Jayne Hat, after which FOX started sending cease and desist letters to people selling homemade Jayne Hats on etsy and similar sites.

Ahhh, I see. That's what I get for skimming!

So I was at Disney yesterday, and it seems none of you updated things.

Etsy sellers got creative.

Nathan Fillon tweeted a lot.

Think Geek updated and is now donating profits to charity.

And FOX still sucks. :p

Nathan Fillion DOES tweet a lot. Nothing for a while, then BAM! 20 tweets in a row

Er....uh...bunk...uh...

Can I order those on Etsy?

So, I like to check this thread when it surfaces. I'm curious what people could still be saying about Firefly.

I loved Firefly. I wish I could experience that again. But I can't imagine how a fan thread could survive.

I now completely understand.

This is a case of rule 34 isn't it?

Pretty cunning, ain't it?

Woman goes out wearing a shirt like that, you know they're not afraid of anything.

I'm thinking more rule 44D

Posting that sort of statement without a link makes you bad, and you should feel bad.

It's not confirmed it's just teased in that video they just posted.

Whedon's been talking about wanting to do this since Avengers... far as i know there's nothing new about this.

EDIT for Jayhawker: :p
Funny video with that may or may not have a Firefly cast member in it.

edit: and now I feel bad as I didn't read the sign on his door on my first trip through the video.

Shiny! Let's be bad guys.

He's just a good man. Well... he's alright.

He killed him......killed him with a sword....how weird is that...

Well, my days of not taking him seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

He really is ruggedly handsome!

Edit:
Hmm, or "The Castle is in another Princess, Princess, Princess."
