NFL Week 9 General Discussion Thread

Essentially, here's how all the pregame shows went this morning:

"Terrell Owens, Terrell Owens, Terrell Owens, Dever Broncos. Terrell Owens, Terrell Owens, Terrell Owens, Brett Favre. Terrell Owens, Terrell Owens, Terrell Owens, Colts & Pats. Terrell Owens, Terrell Owens, Terrell Owens, Chicago Bears."

Jamal Lewis didn't enjoy being in jail!

Early scores and commentary:

Tennesse 14, Cleveland 20
Oakland 23, Kansas City 26 (You could have four Randy Mosses on the Raiders but that won't overcome a bad head coach, a mediocre quarterback, and a decimated defense)
Detroit 14, Minnesota 27 (All aboard the victory sex boat!)
San Diego 31, NY Jets 26
Carolina 34, Tampa Bay 14 (The Panthers, the best team no one's talking about)
Cincinnati 21, Baltimore 9
Atlanta 17, Miami 10
Houston 14, Jacksonville 21

Panthers are cleary going to be this years NFC victim in the SB this year...

Carolina's only one injury-riddled season away from their Super Bowl appearance.

Some better health and a few good bounces and maybe they're the top of the NFL heap.

They don't have any real glaring weaknesses. Especially now that Steve Smith is filling the playmaker role.

Late scores, made all the later by Civ IV and the fact that Rome refused to yield to my ICBM barrage:

Chicago 20, New Orleans 17
Seattle 33, Arizona 19
NY Giants 24, San Francisco 6 (Maybe they should have tried playing the Bachelor after all, for all the good the Rodeo Cowboy did)
Pittsburgh 20, Green Bay 10

Frickin' Lions.

So what are the odds that the Pats can stop Indy's roll tonight? Indy hasn't beaten the Pats in 7 games. It's also home for the Pats, and they really don't like losing at home. But they're 2-1 at home this season. Should be a good game, unfortunately, I have ice at 10. Yar!

Bengals keep rolling, over a bad Baltimore team. But Kordell played and that was fun to watch! When is Billick going to realize he needs an actual QB in there.

The Packers are done. It sucks to be Favre this year, no running back, no receivers, what the heck is he supposed to do?

Chicago is a nice suprise this year, good luck to them I say. I think everyone knows Carolina is a good team, but they've been good the last few years so not really buzz-worthy.

For tonights game, I expect the Colts to win, they have looked too good this year. I would say 70% chance they win.

Pittsburgh 20, Green Bay 10

*weeps uncontrollably*

I thought the Pack had a chance for a while, but then they flipped the coin and it was all over.

He won't need to worry about having a QB while he's doing time as an analyst on some late night NFL show. The Ravens have just looked bad. I'm surprised that Pittsburgh game was as close as it turned out.

Throw more interceptions! (Sorry, but I couldn't resist.)

Dude, that was just cold! No matter how much truth there is in it.

I liked that one interception in the fourth quarter. He throws a perfectly fine pass to Driver(?), who bats it up into the air, giving the Steelers plenty of time to get under the ball and snag it. You have to feel badly for Farve...

That's when I gave up watching and helped my wife with dinner. On the bright side, we've got Atlanta this week! Oy vey!

I'm betting on the Colts putting another notch in the Bengals' loss column.

That's what I'm betting on. I would cry with joy if they stopped Indi's winning streak though. That would be awesome in ways I can't describe.

The only problem I have with that hope is that so far they've only played two teams that I would really consider higher tier teams, and they lost both of those games.

The next three weeks are going to be the real show of whether or not the Bengals are the team their fans are championing them to be lately, which I really don't think they are. At least not this year.

I'll be damned happy if they prove me wrong though.

Nooooooo! Ugh! I shouldn't feel so bad considering NE's IR list looks like a pro bowl roster, but still. Get better boys!

Come on now Mix, can't blame everything on injuries, they have a total of 5 guys on IR -

Ryan Claridge - 5th round rookie
Rodney Harrison - pro bowler and defensive captain
Tyrone Poole - was on IR last year too
Guss Scott - 2nd year player, was on IR last year too so hasn't played in the NFL
Chad Scott - started 7 games last year due to injury, never been to a pro bowl

You should feel bad. Even without injuries, I think the Patriots lost some luster this year and wouldn't repeat. I also think losing the two coordinators has hurt them a lot more than they thought it would.

That's the official IR, but if you look at their depth chart, you'll see more injuries: http://www.nfl.com/teams/depthcharts/NE Some of those guys are playing on them, most are not. It's obviously not all injuries, but McGinest, Gay, Seymour and Warren were all a big part of the last two years. Not to mention 3 of 5 backs and Brady. Hopefully most of these guys will be at full speed for the end of the season.

Edit: Sorry, here's the list I was referring to: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/nw... not strictly IR.

Well you said IR.

I did, my bad.

Colt's havent surpassed the Pats...they're just taking advantaged of an injury riddled team thats in a somewhat of a transition year due to coordinator shuffle..

As long as NE has Brady and a good defense I think they'll beat the Colts every year.

oh what do I know.. I just cant stand the Manning family....

oh what do I know.. I just cant stand the Manning family....

Why's that? I admit I know nothing about the father, but Peyton seems to be a genuine guy and always say the right things. Don't know much about Eli, seems a little more "punkish" but that might just be a maturity thing.

That's just it, isn't it? They really don't have nearly the defense they have had. Tom Brady looked great out there, but 21 points wasn't enough because the defense seems to be letting them down this year.

I have to sign up for the Manning dislike as well. Peyton really seems like an affable enough guy in interviews, he seems funny in those commercials, and he really is a hell of a player. However, the last 3 years of sports commentators and writers having their lips permanently attached to his rear end has drastically soured me on him. We get it, Peyton Manning is Mr. Quarterback, he just needed a team with defense to win big games. Now that he seems to have that locked up, the sycophant parade can finally stop praising any other QB and just focus on the greatness of The Manning. Once you add the incredibly tiring arm-waving and ballet dancing PManning does at the line of scrimmage ( EVERY. SINGLE. PLAY.) and the outraged, outraged! shouting whenever a call goes against him and the general appeasement the NFL seems to hand the Colts, he pisses me off a bit.

Eli just seems like a dick, but I really don't know much about him. Well, with Eli I think I just got so sick of hearing "Manning" that he started off on a bad foot. Then there was the BS snubbing of San Diego, then the NFL giving his team an away game at home (The Saints "home" opener). It just adds up quickly.

Long live the Colts and Peyton for President. Hard to dislike a guy who has stuck close to his roots and tries to honestly give back to the Community. When you break nearly every QB rating known to man and remain humble and consistently try to avoid the "showtime" I can understand why the sports media likes him. Now that the Colts have a genuine defense I think they will give it a run towards the big game. I think the next couple of games after the Texans will be the real test. Another awesome Monday night game upcoming - Indy and Pittsburgh. I think one of the most interesting things to see will be how Philly rebounds and whether they can reenter the hunt in the NFC. I am also intrigued the other Manning and the Giants - I never saw it coming - oh by the way - Plaxego Burress anyone - what a catch...

So you actually like Manning, but the media pisses you off.

That was pretty sweet, but I liked Burleson's catch in the end zone even more. That was awesome!

There were some absolutely phenomenal catches this week. Some nasty hits as well - I got tickled to death with the ESPN (I think) - "Jacked Up" where they show the best hits of the week. The nice little pass off the back foot to Marvin Harrison in the end zone was pretty nifty last night as was the spin around for the TD by Reggie Wayne.

Pittsburgh beat NE during the regular season last year and lost to them in finals, I think that could still happen this year, but it's a long shot with the injured defense. That's really been the best part about watching their games.

I <3 Peyton, total man crush. I think the media has harped a lot more on TO and Favre, but it may just be my area.

My roommate is a Giants fan so I've seen a few of their games this season. Eli has come a long way and his team really helps him out and makes up for his mistake. They've got a great defense that makes some incredible big plays here and there. Very fun to watch.
