GWJFL Summer Week 2

Ladies, Gentlemen, and Mr.Green. We have our first quadruple post. Hurrah!

Thank you, thank you.

Perhaps I should use the Edit button more.

Logan, I can play Thursday after 7pm or Friday at 7pm est. How's that sound?

I might be able to play tonight too, if you're available.

Squirrel: Logan will be back in town late Friday night, and all day Saturday.

If you can play Saturday (and if Swampy will let the league slide an extra day), then you can play Logan. Or late Friday, not sure exactly when Logan will make it though.

Otherwise, you'll have to play me in his place. And apparently that leads to DVD snapping or something.

If you absolutely, positively can't wait for Logan, then we'll set up a game time.

As long as the league is cool with it, I can wait for Saturday. I'll try to get an hour away from the wife. She rules on Saturdays!

Just as long as you rule the other six days.

Swampy, can we get a ruling? Can we get a s-l-i-d-e to Saturday so that the Falcons can be played as their rightful owner?

(Plus, with broadband coming SOON to his Bay Area abode, the Falcons might not have to be played by me ever again)

Saturday = July 2. The deadline was July 1. So yeah, a one day extension for dedicated players is fine. Once those two decide on a time I'll try to be around to advance right after the game, and maybe guys can start planning week 3 games for later that day or night.

Saturday at any time in the afternoon PST works for me.

PS. It SOUNDS like going pass when up 3 TDs was your downfall, but that is just what I gather from the brief write-ups.

The problem with that is my running game got completely shut down everytime I tried a running play. We're talking like 2 yards most of the time.

Which isn't the point, really - the point is to run off the clock. You're already winning by 21 points. You didn't need yardage, you needed time of possession.

I hate sitting and just staring at the clock count down in an attempt at using up game time.

I realize it's a perfectly valid and effective strategy.

It also bores me to no end.

And blowing 21 point leads is a party?

You don't need to sit and stare at the clock. But you need to run plays that keep the clock running after the play is over.

You ran the ball exactly TWICE in the 3rd quarter and TWICE in the 4th quarter. There's a HUGE gray area between "pass every damn play" and "boringly watching the clock run out". It's not just for the sake of keeping the clock moving, but it was probably pretty easy for ruthlessmuffin to figure out whether to worry about the run or the pass any given play...

There's a reason why Legion's tag is "Head Coach."

I'm not sure what that reason is, but it's a good one!

You'll find out soon, becauuuuuseee......

Chalk Talk 2 is coming soon, and it ain't text!

I told you Legion would make you feel good.

I'll say this, Thin: If you are bored playing the clock, then don't. Because in the end, it is about fun for 85% of us in teh league. The only question is which of the elite players will win it all, so play for fun

Fun is spelled W-I-N.

"You play to win the game!"

(this PSA brought to you by coach Herm Edwards of the New York Jets)

Naw, - and I'm not thinking of you here, so don't take offense, but there are a few game circumstances in which I'd rather take the loss than play in a manner necessary to win.

Well I don't necessarily agree with "win at all costs" - I could get a lead early and begin bleeding the clock from the 2nd quarter on, and stall the game into total tedious boredom (I've done that before in general online games against cheeser players that deserve the torment).

I feel the enjoyment is in two things: (a) victory, and (b) the pursuit of victory. You might not always get (a), but you can always get (b). I don't believe in fiddle-farting around and not trying to win. It's like the chase being as sweet as the prize. I had lots of fun in the past two leagues, despite not being the ultimate league winner (but oh boy is that gonna change THIS time ).

You play to win the game. Even if you don't win, you play it that way, and take enjoyment from seeing where your best efforts take you.

I agree with everything you say, but would add the caveat that I do as long as it is clean play.

And for the record, in an important game, I'll bleed the clock white, but I love to run the ball, so.

Excepet when jerky jerk faces pound me so bad I have to start throwing interceptions.

I think you've mixed up cause and effect here.

Hey Squirrley - Logan is coming back early - he'll be here later tonight. Any chance you'll be around to play ball?

I can try to squeeze in a game sometime this weekend. It may be tough. How about Saturday early evening?

Saturday, say... 4pm PST?

Squirrel - it's starting to get late where you are. Are you available to play?

Well, I've tried getting ahold of Squirrel - he wasn't answering his Xfire and I guess he was playing Guild Wars today.

Logan tried....

[19:07] *Legion* [Shin Bet]: Hey, this is Logan on Legion's computer - are you available to play?
[19:12] *Legion* [Shin Bet]: I'm not going to be in town for long, so I was hoping we could get it done soon.
[19:51]
[19:58]
[19:59]
[20:16]
[20:17]
[20:24]
[20:24]
[21:36]
[21:40] *Legion* [Shin Bet]: Squirrel? You there?
[21:43]

What are you? His freakin' lawyer?

Due to Logan's prior absence, and then squirrel's squireliness, I flipped. Logan won.

We move on to week 3.
