Minesweeper highscores

I use to play this on my parents pc whilst "studying" in high school or making phone calls. I think I got pretty good high scores, but found no-one to compare with! Does anyone share my passion for this windows-game?
Time to brag:

small: 4s
medium: 38s
large: 112s

Anyone else?

My little brother and his ex-fiance are gods at that game. Let me check quick if he ever played on my computer... Nope. I'll check with him, but I'm pretty sure he has a sub-50 best time for Large!

Personally I'm lucky if I finish! I'm of the slow-and-steady gamer variety, and the horrible 50-50 guess situations that arise in the end-game make it less enjoyable than it could be!

Still, your scores kick my all-time bests!

sub-50... that's depressing... should've known better

It's a matter of luck idd, even to get high scores. I still wonder how popular (or not) this game is. Not very, I get the feeling.

Thx!

Yeah, I stopped playing after watching my little brother breeze through the levels. I lost all the joy over beating the Expert levels under 200! That, and most of my computer time is spent on a work laptop these days, and the touchpad is no good for twitch gaming like that!

Still, with all the eyecandy and impressive techdem... *cough* games out there I'm sure a gem like minesweeper simply falls through the cracks. Personally I still enjoy a good game of Freecell every now and then!

one hundred and freaking 12? No kidding? Is that actually possible, or did you rip a hole in space-time with the mind-blowing l337 mouse clicking speeds you were clocking? That's damn impressive.

Best I've ever done on Expert is 180-181 (can't remember, exactly)
Intermediate was somewhere around 40
Beginner was like 7 or something. I think it was one of those freak times where you clear half the board on the first click, flag the next three, and then clear the rest on the next click. I never could do it again. Fortuitous placement, I guess.

(shakes head) 112... damn.

14's my highest on the small version... my attention span never let me get to the larger ones.

I have never finished the expert one. The best I have done is have 8-9 mines left. I always make a careless mistake at that point. I believe Im in the low 300's at that point too.

The real test is to max the bombs and make the board as small as you can... now you don't play for time you play for number of misses in a row... Mines liek 5

Man. My fastest for Expert is only 205 seconds.

BUMP

Okay, my brother is sitting next to me and apparently the sub-50 thing is a myth. He claims that a man in Harvard holds the Record with 59. My brothers score is 89 for expert. 37 for Medium and 6 for Small. He claims the smaller scores are there merely because he was sick of seeing blank scores, while still maintaining his sub-second-per-mine ratio. He has admitted to me that during the heigth of his addiction he would maximize the boadsize and populate with the same ratio of bombs as the expert level... for practice.

Course, if I had a crappy computer (Celeron 400 running W98) like him, I'd probably be good at Minesweeper too.

Sweet! I was kinda used to thinking I'm good at a game, than to find someone beats the crap out of me
89 seconds IS way better than my record, but my others still stand

And btw, my parents PC is a Pentium 166. Figures...

My current best scores:
Beginner: 3
Intermediate: 28
Advanced: 92

It's tough to get under 100, but I think with patiance and luck, I could probably break 90.

Expert: 98
Beginner: 2

Medium is for ######'s.

Best gamer ever.

The time to completion in mindsweeper isn't what they should track. Instead they should track number of completions to number of deaths like they do in Freecell and Spider. Much more realistic (of course you can cheat on those scores which is worse then the pure luck factor of a 2s beginner score).

Best Times:
Beginner: 6s
Intermediate: 32s
Expert: 111s

I also find a lot of it has to do with the mouse.

In keeping with the times, the new hyper-realistic Minesweeper will uninstall itself whenever you hit a mine the first time.

i scored 7 sec in small
49 in medium
and 149 in expert.......

Wow...way to raise this thread from the dead!

Yeah, but if he had made another thread for it, you know he would have been bombarded by coughs linking to this thread.

But on topic, I was never able to get good scores in minesweeper. I always felt like I had to rush through it as quick as possible to get a high score, and I always ended up clicking on a square I did not mean to click on. And of course it always managed to be a mine.

Well, since it's resurrected, I'm down to 96 seconds.

I was just in awe of his search foo. I can never find anything I'm looking for...

Played it A LOT. Expert being so unresolvable most of the time was really depressing though.

I quit chasing legitimate high (low?) scores once I learned people could cheat to get theirs with stuff like ...

With your cursor inside the minesweeper window type "XYZZY" then press Shift-Enter and Enter. A white dot should appear in the upper-left corner of the screen. If it turns black, your cursor is resting on a mine.

While playing, hold down the left and right mouse buttons and you should see a 3x3 square imprint on the board. Next hit the ESC key while holding down both mouse buttons, and the timer is stopped!

Minesweeper Cheat: Freeze Time

There’s an easy-to-execute glitch/cheat in Minesweeper that will stop the game’s time so you can take your time completing each puzzle (hence getting the high score!) To do so, start a new game and then quickly hit the Windows key and the D key at the same time to minimize the game to the bar below (and any other program). Then, maximize the game again and the clock will be permanently frozen.

Minesweeper is about the only type of competition that matters, competing with yourself.

On my laptop (Thinkpad T60 dual core, 2gb ram)
Beginner: 12 (I haven't tried to lower it, just wanted to set a score)
Intermediate: 55 (Same)
Expert: 107 (Just set today)

I play when I'm bored a lot.

My best times

small 04 seconds
medium 31 seconds
large 00 seconds (fastest time that was not insainly luky 1:59 secs)

my medium is a bit fastor then yours but my usual expert is a bit slower, provably because you can open most of medium befor playing.

My personal Best is
Beginner 8
Intermediate 92 (I should really work on this one)
Expert 163

I have a lot of spare time at work and play there about 3 hours a day mon-fri lol
