Poor Redskins

OK, you're the Washington Redskins. You had a chance to take TE Kellen Winslow in last year's draft, and you passed on him because of his character issues and his agents.

So how much does it suck that the guy you took instead, free safety Sean Taylor, the son of a police chief, is now in trouble?

Oh, sure, he had a DUI last season. And he spat on an opponent. What now?

Well, now he is under arrest for firing shots into a house of people he believed to have stolen his car. The police had been looking for him for a couple days, and Taylor apparently turned himself over today.

I think it's time to rename Miami (FL) to "Thug University".

See what happens when you don't have Pepper Rodgers?

Or is he still there? If so, blame Pepper and his really bad hair.

Sounds like we need to sign him up for our SWAT4 nights. He'd fit right in.

Wait. When did it lose that title in the first place?

Heh. Touche.

Taylor is looking at prison time. YEARS of prison time. Anywhere from 3-10 years if convicted (and it ain't lookin' good so far). As well as a lot of lost money.

You know how Kellen Winslow's contract specifically mentioned injury from motorcycling? (As well as other things, yeah, but motorcycling was one of the ones listed specifically)

Well, Taylor's mentions refunding bonus money if he misses time due to voluntary retirement or - dum dum DUM! - incarceration.

Could be as much as $9 million paid back to the 'Skins.

In other U of Miami news, Clinton Portis is being taken to court over his refusal to pay for the jersey number that he "bought" off the guy that had it when he got to Washington.

And Winslow got a second opinion on his knee - turns out his ACL is still shredded.

Goooooooooo Canes!

I saw that. That's some funny stuff right there. "I didn't have to pay him the rest of the money cause he was cut."

I know where my son WON'T be going to college.

Oh, the quote of the week was ex-Cane, current Cleveland Browns linebacker Kenard Lang. From the Beacon Journal:

"I feel like a very educated man," Lang said. "(I'm a) University of Miami guy."

I'll pause to let that sink in.

........

Not only is that genuinely funny by itself, but it gets better when you learn that that Lang did not graduate.

He left for the NFL after his junior year. And according to him, he had a smashing 2.9 GPA during his time at Miami.

"Ma, I'm ed-u-ma-ka-ted!"

I grew up in Miami and the University of Miami is actually a very good private University with both a leading Medical and Law School. The fact that football players from there get into trouble etc... should not color the entire university. There have actually been quite a few stand up guys from U of M as well.

Hey, I know about schools tainted by scandal - I go to FRESNO STATE after all. The latest Sporting News joked that our new mascot will be a black cat stepping on a crack underneath a ladder.

Still, if I were an athlete, I wouldn't go around saying, "I think I'm educated, I'm a Fresno State guy!". Especially if I had a 2.9 GPA and bailed out before graduating. And we aren't the school that graduated Brock Berlin. (I think he barely got his name right on the Wonderlic)

Spy, I love you man...but you are aware that, ummm...you are defending the Univ of Miami?

2.9 is a pretty decent GPA for a tough major. Somehow I doubt he was a physics, or aeronautical engineer, but its above average.
