Vanity Plates

Yes? No?
I'm debating adding some to my car. I'm finally driving a car worth personalizing, especially since there is no way in hell I'm putting a bumper sticker on that beauty! As some of you know I'm driving an '05 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT limited. A car that makes my every commute a thing of joy and excitement.

I'm partial to something personal, and my choice would most likely be a name that I have carried over from the old 8.3 dos days: RSDNTGD. (ResidentGod -> RezGod -> Rezzy) Not very exciting and I don't know if it's phonetically obvious or if I should try to make up some fake acronym to fit those letters, but it is personally identifyable.

But that's me. Have any of you had experiences with vanity plates? Maybe seen humorous or weird or obscene ones? Maybe you just want to share how clever you can be when setting up your plates in Midnight Club 3! Feel free to share them here! I want to hear thoughts and opinions and anecdotes. Dissuade me! Express your indifference. Tell me how horrible it is to have your nifty plates stolen by ingrates. Or... skip over this thread and move on to the next item on your 'keyword' spree through the forum topics.

What do you think?

Sweet another Subie owner. I recently considered parting out my STi and trading in on a Legacy GT.

I''ve debated getting personalize plates, was thinking of STILYN or something like that.

I''m just posting to let you guys know that if your cars are missing in the next few days, I just went on a little test drive.

*jealous*

I''d get one of those nifty For The Horde! license plate borders but I''d be scared some uber Alliance nerd would key my car in a fit of rage!

I was thinking of getting vanity plates.

My best friend''s license plate is W00T, and I was thinking about getting 0MGPWND. It carries more of a tongue in cheek meaning for our group of friends, as opposed to me being some super l33t kid who says that all the time.

We joke about ending e-mails to important people at work with LOLZ! or OMG PWND! and having them have no idea what we''re talking about. So, I thought it''d make a funny license plate.

Personally, I think RSDNTGD (ResidentGod) is a little ego, plus I would think your are a medical resident.

I always wanted the following plates, but don''t currently have a car putting them on.
WTF - too obvious, but friends tell me this is my motto
RNSMRCY - Rainsmercy
EGLSWNG - From a Loreena McKennit song, my wife gave me this nick

The funny one''s already taken in FL

I''d go with STN666/S6T6N6 personally but why give the cops something easy to remember?

My ego has been known to knock minor planets out of orbit. The only reason I deign to preserve this system intact is because any changes might inconvenience me in the future. And we can''t have that.

My gf says the same thing about my ego. Good thing I only use my powers for awesome.

I thought that A55 RGY got banned in FLA

Yeah... I got it in December. It WAS going to be a Honda, but people here started talking about this ''subaru'' thing and I made the mistake of testdriving one. I was thinking of putting together a formal review at the 10k miles mark which will be coming up soon.

I like the covers for the foglights! (unless I''m mistaken) Are those stock or aftermarket on that model?

Yeah, a friend of mine was looking for a new car. I suggested the Legacy to him, he''s defenitely getting one. Unfortunately, the jerk hasn''t let me drive it...

I think I''ll go out on a limb, and say no to vanity plates, for the same insane reason I don''t have my bumper stickers on my car: I am a paranoid nut. All of these things simply make your car easier to remember, and thus easier to track...quick, get the tin foil hats!

I''d kind of like to get this vanity plate...

O00O0O

Just to make it hard on the cops.

IMHO vanity plates are tacky.

Unfortunately, O is not acceptable on any state''s license plate. It''s switched to 0 automatically.

No limb necessary! I didn''t call this thread ""Agree with me or be flamed!"" I''m looking for serious input, and you raise a legitimate concern!

The way I have rationalized past my own paranoia goes thusly: I have a garage... if I''m not at work or shopping, it is parked out of sight. While at work I am 90% of the time parked in small communities. The ones where you have decent odds that the car NEXT to mine isn''t even locked, much less has a chance of an active alarm being installed. Which raises the other issue... simply driving a new car is already singling me out in many of these places. Adding the vanity plates would be like putting a tie on a clown. As for tracking me... I work for a government agency. They don''t HAVE to track me. I go and check in every day! The implant at orientation didn''t hurt very long, and the uniformed man with the scalpel told me that there was only a minor chance of sterility! Yay! /JOKING

Oh yeah? Well YOUR MOM isn''t acceptable on any state''s license plate.

Bend over and I''ll show you what IS acceptable on any state''s license plate!

Well, they make them out of a pretty flexible material now, and the paint I believe is chemically treated to prevent that! Of course... if your hands a sweaty beforehand!

Can you elaborate? Do you feel it is ''putting on airs'' or just unnecessary, like a tattoo, or piercing? I guess for me it''s an ownership thing. When I look at my car it makes a little part of me tingle with pride at having pulled myself up to the point where I can comfortably pay for a vehicle that costs more than I pay for rent. Making the plate something personal keeps my mind from trying to associate numerology methods and other superstitions to attribute the pseudo random method in which my car drew NYY 301. (If your are l337 haxx0r you can now PWN me!)

I know someone who has a personalized license plate that''s his initials, including ""III"" at the end. I think that''s pretty arrogant.

Thank you Warlock, I believe that will be satisfactory (See below)

Something else to think about Rezzy is that in many states you need to pay an additional yearly fee for a custom plate. I don''t know if it''s a concern, but myself, I''m a cheapskate. College does that to you.

But hey, those are my only two objections - if they don''t bother you, I say go for it!

I''ve always wanted one, but have never been happy with the ideas I came up with for what to put on one.

The license plate on the car my wife drives is actually --- GWJ (with actual numbers where the dashes are, of course). And it''s not even a vanity plate!

I like mine (see avatar if you didn''t know that''s real), and it has lead to the Touching Gamer Moments I''ve posted about.

My only advice is that if you get one, make sure you understand the spacing and how the plate will look at the end. To center mine, I put a blank and a half on the left (in CA you are allowed only one half space blank) to center the four characters. I see plates with bad whitespace all the time.
