[Mage][20] Teleport - whats the point ?

I was looking to the "Teleport" ability at level 20 like a giddy little girl. I hoped the "teleport" would be like the "Hearthstone" that you get by default - takes time to recharge, but self-powered.

Alas, not.
When I actually obtained it, I learned that it requires "RUNES" and that one "RUNE" is 9 SILVER.

Not only is "Teleport" limited to one city, but for each "Teleport" I have to pay 9 silver, which is about 4 times more than a Griffon Ride. I'm guessing that level 40 "portal" has a similar system.

I am not usually the type to pick on features in a MMORPG, but what was Blizzard smoking ? Who is ever going to use this thing ?

I''ve seen quite a few in Orgrimmar that leads directly into the Undercity. Super useful for doing quite raid defenses.

A LOT of mages use it. Why? because who wants to take 3 flights to a major city, then a zep or boat to another when for the low, and it is low, price of 9s you can port right there?

Lvl 40 costs 18s and will let anyone in the party go through the portal.

I WISH I had this ability.

eventually 9 silver becomes an afterthought...so it is super useful.

As you level, you will cease to think of 9 silver as money. 9 silver is the change you get back when you spend money. Heck, I was able to laugh at 9 silver when I got teleport. I loved Teleport from the moment I got it.

I use it all the freakin time. I am so lazy, that I HATE travelling from place to place. Teleporting is super sweet to get stuff done.

Portals are also really useful after completing instances. Typically, you need to go somewhere to turn in the boss mob loot / quest things, and portal can take the whole party!

Teleport isn''t limited to one city. There is a teleport trainer in each major city of each faction. On the horde side you can teleport to Orgrimmar and Undercity at lvl 20 and Thunder Bluff at 30. This frees you up to have your hearthstone be in a smaller place yet you can still instantly get to every major city. Depending where you are, it can definitely be cheaper than flying too.

And when you get to 40 you get the Group Teleport. We love leaping for that.

Yeah I''m just gonna repeat what everyone said... 9s won''t mean a thing eventually.
At lvl20 you probably won''t see much cross-continental traveling, but it will get more frequent at later lvls. By that time, somebody without teleport will need to spend around 7 silver for a griffon flight, and one trip usually consists of two or even three consecutive flights. Teleport is not only convenient, but cheap as well. Oh man will you get to love this skill...

Thank you all for the comments - I will try to find a teleport trainer in Ironforge now ...

A very useful ability. For example I kept my hearthstone bound to Booty Bay while doing all my stranglethorn quests, but was able to port to IF, SW, or DN when I needed to. The cost becomes a non issue later on. I use it so much I''ve grown to hate not having it with my alt characters.

Portal is great for keeping your party together. Looking forward to getting the DN port in a few levels for some instant transcontinental travel.

Magicltrevor does not use it much but it is handy in not drowning when one of those f*cking boats dissapears out from under you for no damn reason, and you can''t hearth out.

I will agree with everyone else. I use it pretty regularly. I am 34 and xping in Desolace. 9 silver is well worth the insta to Orgrimar to turn in quest then hearthstone back to Desolace. 20 minutes of flight dropped to 25 seconds. Then when you are done in Desolace just tele back to Orgrimar and bind there.

I did not train any of these until level 30... at that point the 9 silver and cost to train did not seem so bad.

Remember as well that time is money in these games. The griffon flight may be cheaper, but if it takes 3 minutes longer than the teleport, and in that 3 minutes you kill one or two mobs and get a couple of grey drops worth 3 or 4 silver, well, you do the math.
