Cheney at Auschwitz - embarassing?

Have fun...even I, as a rabid GOP member, am embarassed by the arrogance and bad taste shown here...sigh

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe...

I don''t see how it''s a big deal really.

Oh, those euros and their dark clothing. Just because you''re sitting in a camp of death and genocide doesn''t mean you can''t look fabulous.

Well, I think it''s rude, but I doubt, considering people like Wolfowitz''s importance to this administration, that it was the studied insult that many Europeans will see it as.

It was incredibly bad form though, no matter how you look at it.

""Staff 2001""

...

""Staff 2001""

So was he a camp counselor there that year or what?

It''s a memorial service and you show up in a military coat, hiking boots and a knit cap? For christ sake, do not give the EU anything else to point to back up their ''ugly american'' stereotype. Good Lord, what an idiot.

He should be embarassed and if he has a hard time dealing with it, then step down.

*sigh*

You''d think with all that cash he got from Halliburton that he could afford some nice cold weather clothing.

I just wonder why he did not wear that to the extremely cold swearing-in? Perhaps he had luggage problems in Poland. He may not have actually been wearing underwear, for example - we''ll never know.

*grimace* Damn it, Ro. Trust me when I say that no one wants that mental image.

That guy right behind him in the pic is looking at with a ''WTF'' face.

for those to lazy to click. Thats gotta be the funniest thing i''ve seen in a while.

EHHHH? VAS IST?

While I don''t think it''s a vast insult or anything, it is obviously incredibly tacky; it''s obvious he didn''t bother to wear anything other than regular daily workclothes. Even a southern-born barn-dweller like myself would know better than that.

Your avatar speaks well for your argument.

Trust me when I say that no one wants that mental image.

Everyone needs a jolt on these long Friday afternoons at work.

Cheney be representing da DC Krew wearin stay-puft parka to a memorial service. Peace!

""The vice president, however, was dressed in the kind of attire one typically wears to operate a snow blower,"" Robin Givhan, The Washington Post''s fashion writer, wrote in the newspaper''s Friday editions.

Wow, that is embarassing. I can''t even imagine what the thinking was behind that outfit.

The Euros may not be very happy about it but I doubt the Jewish community will take it as an insult. With a rise of anti-jewish activity going on in Europe, I think that the Euros should be more concred about that.

Maybe he was trying to reach out to Canadians by dressing like one...... Or Packer Fans

...with Cheney it''s always about reaching out, isn''t it?

A bit off topic but another embarrassing example of arrogance and insensitivity: check out the first entry here quoting Star Jones of the hit comedy ""The View"".

http://www.utterwonder.com/archives/...

I don''t think those quotes are true. The one from Bush is fake, I cannot find it anywhere. He doesn''t cite the quotes at all.

Point taken Ulairi, lesson learned, and I''d much rather be mistaken than this having been said. Still looking for the source...this site isn''t where I heard it, but the first hit I had on the quote when searching - I should have taken more time to investigate. I admit it was a hasty post, and if false, my deep alpologies for having given the rumor more air time - have I learned NOTHING from reading these forums? sheeese

That''s classy, with a capital ASS.

No problem. It is so easy on the internet to be taken on stuff.

My guess would be - none at all.

Seriously, though, that''s just dumb. The Vice President of the world''s most powerful country doesn''t even know when it''s appropriate to wear a dress coat.

And his staff lets him do it. Bad. Information. Management. Or arrogance, one.

And the hiking boots are the icing on the cake. I really hope there is a good excuse behind what he wore because there is no way he or his staff did not know better. This was a very solemn event. If there was ever an event where you need to just suck it up and take the cold like a man, this is it.

I would like to point out that we don''t hear a lot of jewish leaders complaining about him. I think it was in bad taste but not the huge deal many are making it out to be. No one really thinks that he meant it as an insult.

Thats a lot better than the British Prince''s dressing up as an SS soldier during a halloween party! But he could have gotten a dressier winter coat don''t you think?? Perhaps DK would have something in his size??

I would''ve worn a flannel with a beer-hat.

Agreed. I don''t for a second believe he meant it as an insult or that it should be blown out of context as anything other than a really stupid fashoin error. I am just boggled that he wouldn''t know better. How can you not know better?

Coping - I think you hit the nail right on the head!
