Play to lose! That's my new WoW motto.
Since playing WoW I've been very gradually losing weight over time. When I was on vacation for 9 days during Christmas and New Years, I pretty much played WoW every day, all day...it was awesome. Two days before I was to return to work I was thinking my work pants might need some stretching out since I sat on my butt and didn't work out on an every-other-day basis like I usually do.
Needless to say that I was somewhat surprised to find that my pants were loose instead of tight. As it turns out, when I play WoW, both my hands are busy on the keyboard and mouse pretty much all the time. The result being that I just don't eat or munch on anything when I play because it's too much of an annoying distraction....yes, I'm weird like that.
At the rate I'm going (4 hrs weekdays, 8 hrs+ weekends), I should be down an entire size in another 2 or 3 months without lifting a finger and well on my way to that sultry, sexy undead look.
Is it me, or have others with the addiction experienced the same thing?
I forget to eat sometimes if I''m really into playing, and I have had times when getting up to go seek out food just seems like more trouble than its worth.
I could see how over time you could lose weight.

I am eating way less these days.
Think about all the time you arent watching TV and seeing all those junk food commercials that give you cravings beyond belief.
Since November, I have dropped 2 belt loops. I would assume that means I have lost 2 inches off my waist!
Dont worry, Im not wasting away. I more than likely used to eat 4000+ calories a day with 2-3 fast food combo meals. I have more than likely cut that in half.
I know my stomach has shrunk. I used to be able to easily eat one and a half medium pizzas. Now I struggle to finish one.
Im also drinking way less soda. I have bottled water near my computer for when Im thirsty. This is a really good habit to get into. Place a six pack of bottled water near your computer, within arms reach.

I pretty much do the same thing with Iced Tea. Not a whole six-pack but I ususally go through a couple of bottles of Liptons unsweetend, no-lemon iced tea during a gaming session. Zero calories + caffine = a win-win!
Two caveats:
1. Your metabolism will go way down when playing Wow. I know this because as an insulin dependent diabetic I have to take more insulin to process the same amount of food when eating before playing Wow than I would if I ate before I carried on normal activities. That''s basically true of all computer games.
2. You''re losing muscle mass as well as fat, which is a mixed blessing. We may all end up as the notorious ""thin fat people"" from Seinfeld.
“While American democracy is imperfect, few outside the majority of this court would have thought its flaws included a dearth of corporate money in politics.” - Justice John Paul Stevens
please don''t scare me I''m too damn thin as I am already. I don''t want to start looking like I''m anorexic.
"The pen is mightier than the flaming bag of poop" - Bart Simpson
That''s why it''s only ""nearly complete.""
Physical activity is a must for keeping the metabolism up. Plus, I pretty much have to exercise on a regular basis whether I want to or not since my body objects by throwing out all sorts of aches and pains if it''s sedentary for any length of time.
I am gaining weight because of WoW. I had 11 pepsi cans sitting at my home PC. It was disgraceful.

Yah, speaking as another soul consigned to jamming a half inch needle full of insulin into his stomach every night, cut down on your sugars now, before you have to. In particular, cut out soda/pop/coke. And if you have kids, sure as hell stop giving them those little cans of doom. And check the label on orange juice while you''re at it... not quite as healthy as they''d like you to think
I''m usually not this bitter about it, but I wish I had been warned by someone who came up with diabetes the way I did... likely pushed over the edge by rampant sugar consumption, even though I''m not even mildly overweight.
I got diabetes (insulin dependant) 2 years ago when I was 20. No significant family history, and I was a healthy young lad, just got it out of the blue.
ANYWAY... I have to be careful about eating when playing WoW. I can easily get really into the game and not realize my blood sugar is getting too low until my hand starts shaking on the mouse (when blood sugar is low, your body starts to pump adrenaline into your system and I get shaky hands and sometimes start sweating). Fortunately for me, these warning signs come long before I pass out or anything.
As far as drinking goes, I recommend everyone get a water cooler for next to your PC. I got one a few months ago and I am amazed at how much water I drink now. The convenience makes all the difference. I used to have a mini-fridge in the computer room and I was always drinking Diet-Pepsi, sooo unhealthy. Water is much better.
Oh no, I dont drink a 6 pack of bottled water. Its just there for the convenience. Convenience is the key. I wonder if I could put some celery and carrot sticks there as well, hmm...

It works. If I stock my office fridge with water and healthy food, I eat and drink it. If I stock it with beer and chips, I eat and drink those.
So, you are in the middle of an instance, taking an AFK before the big boss fight, you are hungry and thirsty. Your only option for a 2 minute break? Carrots and water, you will take those!

If my fridge were stocked with only carrots and water, I would drive 3 blocks to the corner store and buy beer and chips, and still be back in the allotted 2 minute AFK time
I''ve got to go with Strekos on this one :).

Beer in the corner store!!... damn Ontario sucks ass.
My (non-chain, locally owned) corner store actually has *good* beer too
I actually just fill my cup o water at the bathroom sink during a long game playing session.

So my New Year''s resolution to lose weight can actually be fulfilled by playing more WoW! How can my wife deny flawless logic like that?
